EXCELLENT video. I have just the 32R and it does great alone as a mixer with the UC Controller but just am so anticipating to get the 32S to complete my setup 💓
The thing bout pres onus is that they listen to people request, that is the reason they would beat their competitors. That's why lot of producers and other people in the music production business are heading to presonus because they listen and i like that .
Hi Ted, thanks for the video. I want to install a system with a 24R and a NSB8.8 Stage box. Will I need SW5E switch to route one device to another? I didn't understand the exactly application for the SW5E. Please if you can summarize to me, will be thankful!
I wonder, how if, say, in a band live recording situation, I want to record some instruments (wet) through Outboard Gears like Channel Strips. Should I put the channel strips in the Live Room (instead of put them in the Control Room) (so they could go) before the StudioLive 24R?
I would have those in your mix position. If you have a lot of them I would also incorporate them into a patchbay. If it is just a couple of channels of study I wouldn't bother. I hope this helps.
does anyone know, with the 24r in stagebox mode, can you also run it as a usb interface ? Hook up a laptop with USB running Ableton and push output straight into it? or would I still need a seperate audio interface for the laptop?
Super convenient use as stagebox/snake, but... doesn't the ETH cable become a single point of failure? Is there a way to have a backup ? If I have 24 cables connected and one goes wrong I can just switch on a free channel.. if the ETH goes wrong... I'm done...
Enrico Dell'Aquila you are correct the network cable is a single point of failure.. In terms of reliability cat5 has proven itself to be far more reliable than multichannel analog snake cables. The cable is lighter, cheaper, and far easier to diagnose and fix.
Need some help, I followed the instructions and connect my SL 32SX to my 32R and selected stage box mode. It has green light but no signal. I’ve updated both firmware to current. Still no signal detected. What did I miss?
Ted Bahas, I thought by default it will automatically do 1:1 input and output. But I will have to look at that and try tomorrow. Thanks for the direction
Hey am using Presonus StudioLive24 III with a Presonus StudioLive32R to be used as a stagebox. On the Audio routing menu of the Presonus StudioLive24 III there is no option of Stage box control. kindly help.
Ariel Moreno Vergara you have 32 channels at mix but they can be any combination of remote channels from the stage box, playback channels from computer or local channels.
@@tedbahas hi so on the 32sc, I cannot purchase a 16r and expand my 32sc channels with more channels via AVB? For example tracking, say I've used all 32 usb channels so I want to now record vocals or more tracks on top of my 32 track mix down. I can use the stagebox?
Yes its part of the input setting. You can select Analog for local input. For the stage box mode you select Network for the input. USB and SD are for playback from computer or SD card. I hope this helps!
I’m also wondering about this but specifically if you have the Studiolive 16 iii mixer can you use the Studiolive 16R stagebox and have 32 total inputs?
Hi, is it possible to connect 2 desks to one stage box so we can separate FOH and Monitor Mix and achieve different FAT Channel Settings in both worlds.
Yes that is possible and you can specify who has control of the preamp. The latest firmware also allows you to gain share between FOH and monitor world. This will gain compensate levels among multiple users of the preamp. As the person in control of the preamp trims it the other use's level will be compensated so it does not change. Please note that the gain compensation feature is only available with one of the NSB stage boxes.
@@tedbahas PLEASE, How is this possible? Using 2 Studiolive 32 mixers to a stage box as the stage box only has one AVB port. Do i connect the second mixer to the Control port?
@@soundbreed The best way to do that function is to use a AVB switch. It has 5 ports. If you are doing more than 2 devices this is what is recommended. While you can daisy chain end point devices such as stage boxes and Earmix stations, using a switch is a better way to go. Here is a link to the Presonus knowledge base for you. support.presonus.com/hc/en-us/categories/360001175151-Audio-Networking. They also just added an AVB to Dante converter that also extends its network functionality. I hope this helps. Cheers!
Nope. At this time the stage boxes are specifically for the Presonus Series III Consoles and rack mixers. As the AVB interoperability standard Milan matures that may change. Milan allows differing manufacturers to have common interoperability between devices. Presonus is part of the alliance of manufacturers that is backing Milan.
The intelligent human being who designed this model forgot to put inserts in each channel. The person also forgot to place at least 4 stereo pairs of auxiliary returns. In short, I will never replace my Presonus 32.4.2 AI for this model. I use "Out of the box" workflow and use external peripherals. Therefore, this machine seems to be just a beautiful all in one video game for kids to stay in the bedroom. Please, back to made products for professional and semi pro use. Moving faders and big displays will not convince me
Johnny Brit I’m not sure I agree with that. High channel counts, extensive interfacing, network audio, Stageboxes, gain sharing pres, dedicated monitor mixing stations, remote mixing apps....do these sound like home studio features to you? To me the Series III ecosystem is the most professional product they have ever brought to market. Is it perfect?? No.. but it is a giant step forward for them.
@@tedbahas Thank you for your response. I want to make it clear that I like it and also that I use presonus devices. But you just extolled the features and capabilities of the new model. Against facts there are no arguments. Serie 3 does not have dedicated inserts for channels and does not have exclusive auxiliary returns for external racks and therefore Serie 3 makes life difficult for people like me who work "out of the box". Please see my Channel and my small home Studio. For this reason I see that the public focus has changed. It is no longer for serious aplications. Now it is very attractive for stage and children's room. Success for you
Johnny Brit yes no inserts are a compromise. That being said I will trade having stage boxes and flex routing for a lack of inserts especially for an out of box workflow. I can create custom I/O routes to my gear without having to repatch or compromise by having to unbalance my pro gear in order to go with a unbalanced Insert cable. The flex routing allows you move the patch from channel to channel or even use a matrix mix. These features are especially useful for people using an out of box workflow. For me it has helped to eliminate the need for a patchbay for my vintage gear. Anyway, to each his own. Have a great day!
Yeah... If there were inserts onboard, there would be nothing more amazing than making full use of the state-of-art integrated 64x64 USB audio interface by running Waves processing on all channels and buses. However this is only an impossible dream today, and we can only use these shitty built-in DSP effects. Also there are no expansion card slots for other multitrack audio protocols like ADAT, Dante, MADI, WSG etc. The only way to wire these types of signals in is via AVB converter boxes. Remember that AVB is a single-cable protocol and Presonus Series III desks only have one AVB port, so it's an "all eggs in one basket" situation. No backup, no redundancy, no reliability, inappropriate for higher level applications like important events or TV broadcast production. The scene memory system is also a piece of crap... Why only can I store 20 scenes under a project? For backup and failsafe purposes this might be okay, but it's far from enough for a decent theatrical show, which requires 200+ scenes under the same project to be recalled real-time. Also most audio engineers play sounds on dedicated computers, so the four huge built-in music playback buttons are kinda pointless.

Stenly Gonie also make sure the inputs are set to network for the channels you want to use from the stage box
Ted Bahas can these settings be found in the routing menu? (Home pg)
Stenly Gonie the digital input source is right on the fat channel routing section on the board. It’s a green button marked “network”

would this be compatible with the persons 24.4.2

Is there an option to leave any channels local to the console? Say 1-16 on the stage box and 17-24 on the console?

input setting on the home screen or per selected channel?

Hi Ted, I have an SL64S as my main mixer. Can I use x2 SL32Rs as stage boxes to access all 64 channels to conned my band?
That configuration should work. You need to Verify with Presonus. I no longer work for them and maybe something has changed.
Do both the console and rack mixers need to be connected to internet for this set up?
Nope it is a closed network between the Board and the Rack mixer. You can of course be connected to the internet.
