Litter Robot Modification/Custom Enclosure

  • This video shows how we modified our Litter Robot and built a custom enclosure around it. Because it's set up in our garage, we never have to see, hear, or smell the cats using the litter box! It could be installed anywhere though, especially if you painted or decorated it (something we didn't see the need to do).
    In case you aren't familiar with it, the Litter Robot is a self-cleaning motorized litter box that sells for about $400. Ours is the beige "bubble unit" model with a fence and lip extender. www.litter-robo...
    Note: In the video, I use a Dremel Moto Tool to cut out the bottom of the Litter Robot but you could also use a handheld jigsaw or other motorized cutting tool.
    Feel free to leave questions in the comments section!

    Love when people transforme a product to a real intelligent level thay should have been done by the original ingineers.
    I have 4 cats and the tiny bin is just ridiculous.
    After seeing your video I feel comfortable buying one and modifing it the same way
    Thanks!

    I know I'm kinda raising this video from the dead but anyone considering this should be careful about doing it in the garage. Any wall between a house and an attached garage is a fire barrier and even a small hole for a pipe or wire can compromise that barrier. A cat door is a very large penetration. Either don't do it in the garage (a laundry room, utility room, or closet are a few alternatives) or else figure out a way to fireproof the garage cabinet so as to preserve the barrier. It's otherwise a fantastic idea and I want to try something like this myself.

    This is a GREAT idea for multiple cat owners like myself. You guys should start a business doing this...I would hire you!!

    Just thought I'd say, great idea. Recently did this (minus the cutting out the bottom) on a smaller scale (4' long x 2' wide x 5' high) so i used steps instead of a ramp and used pine rated sheathing instead of mfd (was the cheapest).
    Basically the hardest part was getting the right sized cat door/inserts and training them to go through.
    Thanks for the video got me motivated and will hopefully eliminate a lot of tracking.
    Once I'm confident the cats figured out where the box is, I plan on finishing the mods to the LR.

    Wow! What a cool genius idea. Wish I had the room to build that. I have 2 cats that fill up the dumping drawer pretty quick and have to change the bag about every 5 days. I always wished there was some way to make the poop drawer bigger, and came across your video! Thanks for sharing !!!!

    I love this idea! My fiancé and I are thinking about getting the Litter Robot for our multi-cats and after reading the reviews about the robot it seems that most people complained about cleaning out the trays because of how full it got so quickly. But this looks like it solves that problem! I would love to know how you did this! Thanks!

    This is a really cool build. I was just thinking of doing something similar with a cut through from sitting room to our integral garage. Just not sure what's the best way to cut through and how to make it safe for the cats to come through the gap.

    • @AggiePhil
      @AggiePhil  2 года назад

      They make dog and cat doors to go in a wall (as opposed to a door or window). That’s what we did.

    • @iiAssassinXxii
      @iiAssassinXxii 2 года назад

      @@AggiePhil then did you just drill/chisel out the wall to fit the size? Definitely want to do it though, the cats can make a right stink at times.

    • @AggiePhil
      @AggiePhil  2 года назад

      @@iiAssassinXxii yeah you just cut a hole in the drywall between the studs. The cat/dog door kit will come with instructions.

    • @AggiePhil
      @AggiePhil  9 лет назад

      I'm not sure the exact size but it's actually a small/medium dog door.

    now you just need to make a mechanism to dispense a handful of top up litter automatically.

    • @Sp00nie
      @Sp00nie 2 месяца назад

      Only took a decade, but now they finally did it (The dispenser add-on for the LR4 releases the end of this month).
      Yet, they still haven’t caught on to how many people need a larger waste bin! 😅😣

    Did you have problems getting your cats to know where the litter box was, and to go through the kitty door? I live in Minnesota and it gets really cold in the winter and don't want all the cold air from the garage to come into the house. Any suggestions for that? Love the concept - great idea! Also the long strip of carpet is awesome so they don't track in litter and litter dust! I am so sick of litter dust all through the house, and it really bothers my contacts when I scoop normal litter boxes. Thanks and keep the ideas coming!

    What a great idea! I keep my cat boxes in the garage as well and just got two litter robots. Whereabouts do you live? I was reading in the instructions that they must be kept in a cool area so I'm wondering if it's even okay to put them in the garage. I'm in AZ so it gets pretty warm in there.

I'm in an apartment right now and am looking for ideas to build an enclosure/ as well as space to close off litter tracking!.. I am curious-- What kind of litter are you using with your litter robot? Thanks!

  • @AggiePhil
    @AggiePhil  11 лет назад +1

    No, unfortunately I don't have any plans/measurements. We really did just build it from scratch based on the space where it was going. And like I said, I have very limited woodworking skills so if I can do it, you can too!
    Just start with the 4x4 frame/skeleton (four vertical pieces, then horizontal pieces between them around the top and around the platform which is midway up). Then, once you get the frame built, cut pieces of MDF/plywood to build the platform and cover the outside of it. :-)
