My husband ordered cheap hoodies from them in the early days. The pic showed just plain gray and black hoodies. The first thing is that he didn’t realize the difference in sizing so they were super tight. The absolute best part is that they had the word “SWAG” in huge letters going down both arms. 💀 Our whole house was wheezing with laughter seeing my tall husband who’s built like an ox doing a fashion show in his 6 sizes too small SWAG hoodies! 🤣 That was worth the little he paid for them.

Everything they ordered barely looked like the picture, apparently it smelled bad, items took forever to ship and in many cases they didn't get all of the items they ordered. Not too much on my girl Shein. Shein is actually good, the best quality you can get for the cheap prices. Some things on Shein have the same sellers on Amazon. And some quality exceed expectations. Been ordering from them for years now, the only thing that’s kinda bad are the shoes. They kinda suck and they need to do better. And sometimes the clothes is see-through depending on what you get so make sure you look at pictures and read the reviews. But 8/10, I get really good stuff. The press on nails look like acrylics, and I get asked about my nails all the time. Only costs like $3-$7 bucks, and I used to pay $200 for my nails that weren’t as cute as Shein’s 😂😂

I think Wish's issue is that Temu is upping the ante HARD with customer service. Ordered something from them, it was a clamp with flashlight to mount my cell phone to my mountain bike handlebars. They lost the order and refunded my money AND gave me $20 in credit and suggested a very similar item. I spent the credit and it wound up costing barely $1.95! It showed up 4 weeks later. That was last year. I still have it. The headlight still works and it is very stable. I never worry that my phone will fall out even as I bounce my bike over curbs and tree branches. I will admit it, Temu hit Wish hard by focusing a bit more on customer service. It was easy to communicate via text and get a problem resolved the same day.

Well, that's the tradeoff you get. In the "glory days" it was normal to see a box show up on my doorstep. It was always dodgy packaging. At least they had the sense to always stamp the Wish logo on the label. The funny thing is, whenever I opened it, half the time, I had to scratch my head and ask myself "When the f did I order this??" 😂 I remembered only 75% of the stuff I had bought from them in the past but to my surprise, a significant number of the items were decent quality for the price. The biggest shocker was that they have never sold me a lousy pair of tennis shoes. The shoes were always decent but of course, word gets around. When I want to buy another pair, they're always sold out, LOL...

I once needed a pair of "throwaway" shoes so I went to Wish. They had a decent looking pair of hiking high tops that were about $19. These were amazing knockoffs of a big name brand that cost $120. Of course, it took more than a month to arrive but I had plenty of experience with the website by then. It came a month before my vacation so I had time to break them in. They were comfortable and the quality was much better than I expected. I was shocked that they lasted an entire year. What's hilarious is that they held up well but one day, just fell apart! The stitches holding the upper and lower halves just split without any warning. Usually, shoes start to wear loose in the toe or heel area before they fail. The Wish shoes just "broke." I didn't feel bad. For $20, they served me well for a year. Worth every penny. I was a bit surprised that they were still showing it on their website so I clicked to buy another pair but got the pop-up message saying "Sorry, this is no longer available." Searched for half an hour and found something similar. It didn't last as long but for an altogether total of barely $40 and two pairs of shoes in two years, I can't complain!

Ordered two things from Wish way back in 2016. Both experiences were on opposite ends of the spectrum:
    - ordered gaming headphones. Cheap plastic with a usb splitter for lighting. Not so good speakers/mic
    - Red and white shoes (think Sonic Soap shoes). Very light, comfortable, surprisingly slip resistant, flexible. I’ve been trying to find another similar looking shoe, but to no avail.
They were a hit or miss company. And yes, the shipping times were odd. Received the headphones in 2 weeks and the shoes arrived in 2 months.

    • @largol33t12
      @largol33t12 3 месяца назад

Here is my theory regarding shoes. If you buy a pair that gets decent reviews, chances are high that HUNDREDS of people are reading those reviews and flock to that one item. They see the price: not even $25?? Sold! Then they clean out the entire inventory in barely 2 days. It turns out there was never anything left after the first massive wave of customers. That's why even though they have always sold me a half decent pair of shoes, I'm too shy to post positive reviews on them. It'll turn on the floodgates! I've never been able to buy the same pair of shoes twice if they were decent, LOL.

Customers want reliable service and quality as described. The key problem was no one had a solid retail background.

I have used to buy stuff from Wish before. Mostly cheap pins stickers or rings with a few exceptions. Usually, the quality I got was okay. The thing I didn't like about it was the long shipping times as well as the fact that shipping costs would drive the cost up a bit. Since a lot of the things I picked were lower in cost it seemed often that the price would be doubled. Shipping time then would take a month or more. So I stopped buying from them after being fed up or just losing interest. Then I found out about Temu and already like them a lot more. Really not surprised Wish had declined the way it did.

I loved Wish for about 2 years from 2019-2020 but then they raised prices, then they got rid of cheap shipping, then they started shafting you on returns…and eventually every consumer comes to their senses and Wish itself realizes ‘damn we hit the point of actually having to be accountable to both our investors and our consumers’ and they simply couldn’t walk the walk and the consumers realized they were overpaying for what were essentially dollar store items on a wider scale.

They opened a Warehouse here in the US which is greatly reducing shipping waiting times, they are not spending as much as Wish on ad campaigns and are relaying more on word of mouth amongst other things. Also in my experience with them, the quality of the stuff is decent to good, nowhere near as bad as Wish...

My mom used to buy things from Wish. But here's the thing- a lot of the items she bought came from China- which means it took weeks- or even months for them to arrive. & the items aren't always in great quality- she ended up asking for refunds very often due to items never arriving. So I'm sure she doesn't have fond memories of using Wish.

My rule of thumb was the simpler something was, the more likely it would be good. I used them for buying things like nuts and bolts, wire for electronic projects, switches and buttons, sewing hardware, etc. i lost track of how many times my girlfriend ordered cosplay wigs and got the wrong colors lol

When I met people who would ask my advice about ordering from Wish (because I had done it a few times) I would tell them about the time I ordered a fleece blanket that covered an entire human person in the photo, but arrived no larger than a dishtowel. You had to pay attention to exactly what you were ordering (look at things like dimensions, description, the other “options” available on the listing, etc. Only spend as much as you’d be comfortable losing because you may get the wrong item, or not get it at all. It was very hit or miss, and returns were pretty much impossible. If it looked too good to be true, it probably was. Multiple listings existed for the same item with wildly different pricing and Items listed for “free” were actually just charging through inflated “shipping” costs. Items would often arrive smelling foul or with an unknown powder substance. Last, only order items for which quality won’t matter too much. I used Wish mostly to order nail supplies (files, plastic tips, glitter, organizers, etc.). I would not order chemical products, clothing, or technology.

I’m gonna say that Wish is okay for mundane items. Want a cheap novelty t-shirt? Go for it. Want a silicone funnel? Why not? It’s not like these items are too complex or expensive to make, so naturally these are the things that are usually fine.
Honestly though, the trash that was sold and obviously too good to be true is part of the Wish experience. It was (and as of writing is) the original place to find ridiculous knockoff garbage, and that’s why I like it. It’s the “I have some extra money to burn so let’s buy this ridiculous thing and see how bad it is” site. Obviously it’s no longer alone in this niche (even Amazon now sells a lot of low-quality/scam items), but it’ll always hold a place in my heart as the original trash seller.

I found Wish to be useful for things like arts & craft supplies and kitchen accessories (not gadgets). Air fryer liners, glass jars, plastic storage containers, sponges. Alcohol markers, scissors, crafting paper, paints. Basic hand tools, tape, rope, hand towels. Really simple stuff seems just fine from Wish. I wouldn't order electronics, shoes, or clothes unless I knew I was only going to use it once or twice before throwing it away. Would NEVER order liquids, food, makeup, skincare, medicine, or anything flammable. There are levels of trust here and we're nowhere near the top for Wish.

Do you think their decline has anything to do with the rise of companies such as Temu, Shein, or Light in the Box? These are all low priced retailers that generally sell Chinese merchandise.

I bought a 1 watt laser pointer from Wish. It came on time, good packaging, but crappy batteries. It still works, and yes, you can start things on fire with it. The objects you want to melt or burn need to be darker in color, but pointing it at someone's coffee cup and melting a hole through it while they look at me in disbelief was worth the seventy bucks.

Wish is the company example of “if it sounds too good to be true…” I think a lot of people bought from them once and vowed to never buy from them again due to all of the reasons listed plus really deceptive item descriptions. And with it being so cheap- it wasn’t worth fighting for a refund

I loved Wish during the pandemic. I came into it with the expectation that I was buying absolute garbage, but for the price it was fun to check them out, and there were a few things I was actually super happy with. Temu really hasn’t scratched the itch in the same way. Also, Wish had INCREDIBLE customer service and returns/refunds were super fast when necessary

I find it funny that Wish did the exact same thing as Temu is doing now, BUT:
    - no major youtuber or media made an article/video about how bad is Wish for the nature because of the CO2, Shippings etc -> But everyone did for Temu
    - No one made allegations about slaves working there -> they did for Temu
And much more. Wish was not a big evil company, as Temu, because it was a US based company and not one from China.
Im not Pro CCP, but its so funny to see US media trying to make Temu look bad while there was a US based company DOING THE SAME THING, but no one said a thing about Wish. Sheesh, thats one good thing about living in EU.

Yes it was crappy products but most of the products I bought actually worked. What brought them down was that they started charging way more for shipping, shipping that took longer than 2 months. Not worth it.
