Overall, pretty chill recruitment process. Definitely not perfect.

I have a friend that was also interested in applying to General Motors as well. I told him the insights from this video and it seemed to calm his nerves involving the interview process a lot. Very informative.
I hope your friend does well! Thanks for watching. Yeet
OMG.. Thank you boyalgo.. I am preparing for my interview as well.. i really needed this video. I was so nervous until i saw your video.. Thank you
Thank you for making this video
glad you liked it
Yo, great video man! I'm still shocked at those interview questions wtf... Also, $80k for a lower cost of living state like MI is pretty good as entry level.
I was pretty surprised with the interview process too LOL. I definitely think they should have raised their bar, but I enjoyed it overall.
@@boyalgo Great video! Jw how recently you went through the interview process?
Hey Charles! I interviewed in Fall of 2019!
I’m thinking of applying for controls engineering. Even though I don’t meet all requirements imma give it a shot and see what happens
I do agree they could have a technical portion that is related to on site experience instead of asking questions from glassdoor
U applying for a position?
About to hit up glass door right now lol I got the behavioral interview coming up Monday
Nice
3:13 had me ROLLING
Received an offer myself. Coding assessment was almost a joke I couldn't believe how easy it was. They put more emphasis on their behavioral; 8 questions, 2 hours.
If you don't mind me asking, what were the 8 questions mainly about? I have my behavioral coming up as well. TIA
Did they give you a starting date or you were able to choose?
Better than being asked brain teasers imo. They just want to know if you can code and if you are the person they want to hire.
Great information and thanks for the video man. I have my coding assessment tomorrow and I’m choosing python as my programming language as well. You said there were only 2 problems to solve total?
how did u do
Tell us dude
Great information thank you!!! I'm in the process of the the interview. I did the Hirevue recording already. What do you recommend in helping me be prepared for the coding challenge? The language that I feel more comfortable is JAVA.
Good luck Roberto! Its just a general coding assessment so get familiar with the platform and just do your typical leetcode/hackerrank questions. Also be familiar with all of your data structures and you should be fine!
What kind of questions did you have on higher Vue?
WTF, my questions where 100 times harder, passed the first one, failed the second one....
by the way, anyone applying now the offering pay is a little higher now
great to hear :)
How much
Hi boyalgo, Could you please let me know in coding can we hard code the values or once program is completed do we need to execute with some other input values? Please clarify?
I'm not 100% sure what youre asking. In my coding assessment we were able to run a single custom test case where I could modify the input. I also had a chance to run my code against the entire test suite before submitting it also.
Applied for the same thing last year in November and got 65k. I heard now in 2021 new hires who apply to that TRACK Software Engineer job are getting 55k or somewhere in the 50s. Which is not great in places like Arizona…
:o oh my gosh that is pretty dang rough. that is so sad. i think i was luck with the year i applied then
Did they give you a starting date or you were able to choose?
how was your 2h long interview? what questions were asked?
Dang I got an invite to do this assessment and I never did it because the only code I know is MATLAB. The recruiter said they liked my résumé but would only consider it, if I took the assessment. Had I known it was easy, I would’ve went for it 😞 Oh well 🤷🏽
Lol I guess they lowballed me. I got 65k offer for software dev but I didn’t have any internships and I’m an electrical engineering major lol. I mostly talked about my autonomous drone projects in the interviews
Hey dude 65k is still a solid offer! If you have some sort of leverage like another offer, you could negotiate if you're trying to get a better offer. But that sounds pretty cool autonomous drones!
@@empnadajhhh9469 65k is actually pretty good. I'm able to be completely self sufficient, not working so much, and save for future things. Not struggling pay check to pay check in a medium/low cost of living area
Did they give you a starting date or you were able to choose?
These coding questions are from like into coding classes
Did you have a CS degree at the time? What job did you end up taking ?
I was a 4th year in university and I ended up taking my current job at Amazon as a software engineer.
Over the call she told me Entry level SDE gets 58k to 65k and i was like wtf... Any tips on how to negotiate here? My final interview is tomorrow. This is Austin,TX based
The Austin, TX is 58-65k, the Warren, MI is 76-82k. Software Dev is in Austin and Software Engineer is in Michigan. Let me know what you ended up doing.
Did you do it?
Did they give you a starting date or you were able to choose?
Most everyone gets the $65K. Warren is the HQ is $80K makes sense
Did I hear you correctly? You DIDN’T accept the offer?
Yep haha. I ended up accepting a job offer at Amazon instead for close to 2x the pay instead
Did they give you a starting date or you were able to choose?
they straight up assigned me a terrible starting date LMAO. it was during my finals week of university
Did they let you pick Java or JavaScript as a language? I don’t have any python experience but should I learn python before my interview?
they let me select from a list of languages and i believe both of those options were available! good luck on your interview!
@@boyalgo omg it said I got them all wrong even though my output was the same as expected it still was all red I'm so confused
Hi,
So I had my phone screening today and she told me the interview is scheduled next week, "2 1hr Long". Can you please send me the glassdoor link ? Also I've just noticed the difference between salaries depending on location, Is michigan cost of living too much ? Please let me know.
How did it go?
LOL I barely turned 18 Im applying for the position but a relocation package?! I def have more questions :[
I did not get offered a relocation package for the position which is definitely a major concern when I am moving across the country!
I accepted the Job the relocation package is a nice lump sum. Def more money than you need to move across the country
How much do they offer for senior software engineer
What’s up with the hair test ?
I just accepted a QA position.... maybe I’ll test your code 😂
Hey congrats dude! I didnt end up at GM but maybe someday you end up testing my code LOL
@DLRIII Can you please share your QA interview?
@@boyalgo Thank you! LOL you never know XD
@@sowmyachowdary1305 Pretty much the same as this video, It was all pretty much behavioral questions with some very basic technical questions.
lol, maybe I should have asked for more haha.
man, I have a coding challenge. need more help.
Lol you sound like you were coding since you were 10. I dont have internship experience because I barely completely switched after college but I do have project experience and IT experience. I'm actually negotiating for 100k bc of glassdoor but okay with less. I heard back 1 day after and only had one question and an explanation. The behavior part was easy I just talked about my past work experience
Hey Isaac! That is awesome that you're negotiating with them! I also agree that the behavioral part was really easy.
Also, I actually started coding at 18 when I first went into university. But I didn't have to deal with the struggle of a career switch after college.
Good luck and thanks for watching!
So I went to my interview and it was technical. They wanted me to answer in star format but it was kind of hard to do so given that portion was technical. I interview in a panel with 3 Software engineers. Hopefully I get the job
@@isaac80745 how did the negotiations go? just got an offer and id like to negotiate
@@denniswagura2259 lol I didn't get the offer. But you should contact whoever gave you the offer and negotiate a higher offer and apply for more companies with similar role
"It was going good ..." next time try: "It was going well ...".
... it was going good.
@@boyalgo 😜
Hello! Is there a way to contact you via email? I have an upcoming interview at GM and I would like to talk about your coding experience with them. Would this be possible?
How did your coding test go?
