Thank you, Ryan! This may be the clearest, most precise automotive video I have ever seen! Well done! I have an E38 (740iL) with the same style door brake, and your instructions were spot on!! Thanks again for the amazing attention to detail in the instructions...
Great video - one note however in getting the door brake in as my old one basically fell apart upon removal. First, I struggled to find the right angle regardless of starting from the top/side/bottom so if anyone else has the same issue, the answer is to remove the additional 2 torx 30 bolts that secure the internal rail/guide for the window. Once these are removed, the door brake can be inserted straight in as the rail can be moved out of the way.
Had clicking noise coming from excess play in driver side door hinge pin and per your suggestion only replaced that part (~$3), problem solved, no more noise, thanks.
Looking at your video, I am getting closer to my search...question for you: In your video I saw the door brake gasket(the square one) that is held in place with 2 Torx bolts. Does this gasket also need some type of adhesive? I was planning to replace the gasket and need advice. I checked on my mini cooper and when I pry that gasket, there seem to be some kind of residue under it. Thanks!
@@E39Source I will check out the MINI dealership and their new vehicles to see what is under the gasket. I am also leaning towards silicone grease to keep moisture out of torx screws. Thanks!
great video! my door is so much worse. this makes me not want to try and do it lol. looks time consuming. if I ever feel the need to do it I'll be referring to this video. thanks so much!
+steen140 It's not too bad at all really! Give yourself maybe two hours if you're new at taking the door apart. And do make sure you have all of the right parts and tools too, that'll make the job so much easier.
Hi Ryan, I was wondering if you have ever heard of the e39 euro dash conversion? I just came across this, never head of it before. www.zeckhausen.com/eurodash.htm
+George Patton I was aware that the US got special parts for the dash. Cool to see a side by side comparison though. I wouldn't ever do the DIY, I guess like the US version better since I'm so used to it. Thanks for sharing though!
You gotta admire the time, money and devotion this guy puts into his e39. Pretty sure he could easily maintain new m3.
even though my M5 condition doesn't come near to your perfection condition but i love it more every time i watch your M5

Thank you Jay for the kind feedback!

Awesome video! Im thinking about changing mine on my 525, the driver one wont stay when its fully open.
Goodness your carpet is clean!
Did you figure out what the original problem was?
Thank you Ryan.
Thank you for this post.

There are slots in it that allow the Torx bolts to hold it in place, no glue at all.
@@E39Source So the residue that I see under the gasket is just an accumulation from weather and stuff?
@@Charkatak That- or Mini glues them on and BMW does not.

+steen140 I would attempt doing just the pin change first. You may well find that changing the brake is totally unnecessary.
hey lad! I have an E39 and the driver door won't close properly... any idea. how to align the doors ?
The door, when correctly installed on the hinges, should close perfectly, there are no alignments that I am aware of. Has the car been in an accident?
Is that straight pipe exhaust or stock exhaust ?
+Kar Fanatic Stock resonators, Eisenmann Race mufflers.
I like your tags...HAHA AMG
If you get a new engine and gearbox, you'll probably have a car that is newer than brand new :D
