    I like the powerful torque of the electric motors, the incredible acceleration and all that. But a rally without sounds sucks. I mean, at high speed it doesn't sound that bad, but when the car is braking or turning in a slow corner, it is horrible. Imagine a WRC car entering a hairpin and you didn't realize it was approaching. Motorsports will have serious problems in the future if they don't fix this problem.

    • @Ismalith

      I don't think so, the sound of motorsports always changed, every time there where people that left because, "it is not the real thing anymore" and new generations just took over and took the new sounds as the default.
      This will go on, and hearing the terrain and the car reacting to the different terrains will also be a very interesting experience.

      Fake sound is f---ing bullshit. Any lover of motorsport should have enough brain in the f---ing head to not desire fake sound. Electrics sound worse, but if you want great ICE sound you put your headphones on and play your favourite motor sound for yourself.

    • @markedwards4879
      @markedwards4879 3 года назад +14

      You only equate sound with speed because you are used to it. After driving an EV for a few years it’s not the opposite for me - I see/hear so many cars making so much noise and not going fast that now it just seems so antiquated, and I’m a long term rev-head. I loved the sound of my old V8s.

      @@markedwards4879 like it or not - ICE sound great. It's not because we equate speed to the sound (to some extent we do). But there's a reason why a slow car with loud, interesting engine sound, still is far more appealing than even a quick car with boring sound.
      Engine sound is cool on it own. You don't need speed, power or anything to go with it because the sound appeal is self-supporting. And that's the biggest problem with EVs. Okay, to some extent we are used to race/rally cars being loud but that's not the whole story.

      We are certain that the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup will point the way ahead for motor sport. We decided that the Corsa-e Rally should match and exceed the high standards of its petrol-engine predecessor, the Opel ADAM Cup and we are on track with this. While the power output is almost the same, the 260Nm of torque is much higher than the ADAM Cup’s. The centre of gravity is low, thanks to the underfloor-mounted battery, and the weight distribution is also very good, which is extremely important for an agile competition car. The innovative concept and the cooperation with ADAC opens new possibilities. Of course, safety is a very important aspect here that will be respected. It's not the only challenge: Loads and temperature management of the battery under rally conditions, software, sound, durability testing - all topics that we are tackling at the moment.

      With a brand cup car, it is important that the performance remains constant and accessible under all conditions. The equipment should guarantee equal opportunity for all participants. The centre of gravity is low, thanks to the underfloor-mounted battery, and the weight distribution is also very good, which is extremely important for an agile competition car. Now we need to find the most balanced chassis setup.

    Impressive in some respects but in other respects not soo!
    They going to have to fit some kind of advanced high pitched wind whistler devices to full electric vehicles so you know it's coming along the track.
    Traditionally can't be relying on spectators to keep them selfs safely inches away from the tracks edge when any rally car goes blasting by let alone when an ears wide shut super defining electric rally Car unimpressively whisps by at break neck speeds like an OWL machine on steroids.
    SERIOUSLY before any serious injuries happen, the manufacturers & Teams are going to have to put some serious consideration into making COMPETITION GRADE full electric vehicles loud as humanly possible in any electric motor sports.. personally, they should just stick with the raditional petrol/ electric hybrid vehicle ....
    Why the fuck not just super high performance Petrol/ electric hybrid rally cars, you know the real interesting cars that have 2 separate but complementary engines in them, why aren't those types vehicles of more interest in rally by now....
