  • Mirin Fader (The Ringer) stops by The Lounge to discuss a couple profiles she's written recently. She's one of our favorite guests and this is a particularly fun show, as Harrison isn't here to get in the way.
First, she and Anthony discuss how disappointing it's been to watch women's presence in the NBA dwindle even while the women's game has exploded in popularity. This, combined with Black coaches struggling to find and keep footholds in the league is worth further conversation.
From there, Anthony segues awkwardly to a profile she wrote on Zach Edey and why she thinks his game will translate to the NBA.

Serious question, Since NBA players are used to having male coaches their entire careers, is it realistic to think a woman coach would get buy in from NBA players? As a coach, that's an absolute must. I think a woman could succeed as long as they get buy in from the players? But do you see that as a possibility? Idk

Nothing worse than demographics talk. Not every walk of life has a perfect representative cross section by sex, race, etc... The NBA player base isn't a fair cross section of these and neither is the coaching. My daughters like to talk about certain matters with my wife. Because they're women. And vice versa. I don't see anything wrong with that, and to pretend to be so egalitarian and marginalize such common sense notions that people of the same sex feel comfortable dealing with those of the same sex in certain contexts seems disingenuous.
