90% of the performance is player related.
No other coach would have gotten drastically better results with the players at pops disposal.
The spurs should be commended for not taking part in the hire fire culture.
When we have all the pieces, we will challenge again with Pop at the helm assuming he does not retire.

@pg13pacernation30 Wemby maybe but with regards to development of young players, weren't these the same players Spurs had last year when they were ranked dead last on defense. Still same guys can't play basic defense. So that's not on the coaches even a little bit.
Pop is definitely teaching lessons to this team. There is way too much not passing, too much lack of basic defense and rebounding and way too much wide open threes. The guys have to learn and the only way to get better is to experience the bad games

This has been Pop's MO for 20 years. Being rude and sarcastic to pretty much any question that comes his way. Doesn't really matter if the question is overly simplistic or actually a good question. Pop will still tear it apart. Surprisingly, a lot of people think this is charming.

I'd like to see the reporters asking Coach Popovich for all the Coaches out there. That's what he does and has done for the longest.. Why not ask a few questions that pertain to coaching this or that in the game, etc. How he.... (fill in the blank)
I feel like media outlets send rookie reporters to cover the spurs to develop them too! He seems to get so many "can you tell me about", "please talk about" type of questions that are so lazy. Pop is even coaching these beat writers

Everyones expectations are way to high for wemby . Yes he was drafted #1 but look at every other #1 draft picks the last few years. They needed time to develope . We can not sit here and expect them to be all high and mighty. Now as far as the starting line up i think trey jones needs to be our pg. this experiment with jeremy its not working like we want it to be but at the same time jeremy is only 20 years old . Freakin 20 hes never had to play pg . Maybe we can see a difference after 20+ games who knows but we need to change this line up
Wenbenyama isn't used to all these games every week and those very close losses have no doubt hit him hard.
And remember that the Raptors and the Knicks are some of the best teams in the eastern conference.

Spurs has to many chiefs and no Indians.... I see forced hard shots all game... Pretty much look like YMCA basketball. Defense is horrible. This is the NBA and everyone just goes for steals and blocks. On ball defenses horrible. Horrible bad shots fast brakes on the other end leading to number games. The rotation on defenses horrible most of the time people asleep and end up giving up two steps to the offensive person which puts the whole defense in the bind.

...pop has had the young core together now for about Three years this is keldon 5 season...Collins 6th season and 3rd with the spurs...and the team still isn't good on defense i see no improvements from the team from last season to the start of this season so far...bad lineups and a bad bench and pop isn't helping wemby at all letting wemby do his own thing...just letting everybody do what they want...it looks to me that pop hasn't been teaching the players how to play defense...has wemby all over the court...can an nba team be together for two or three seasons and still be as bad as the first day they played together...pop is not using wemby the right way or the team...pop is trying to tank again or he's just gotten to old for coaching...
