- I just purchased a new 2024 YT Decoy e-Mountain Bike. This video is my first on this bike and covers the moment it arrived and my impressions when unboxing, assembling, and becoming familure with the bike. I now own two eMtb's and plan to ride both and invite friends along to ride one of them from time to time. I will be posting videos later about my ride impressions and how it compares to the Conyon Spectral On. They are similar bikes but the YT has the new EP801, and is set up as more of an enduro bike.
I post trail explorations and related reviews weekly highlighting the trail and/or what I'm using to explore; mostly with bikes but also by foot, ski's and more. If your interested please consider subscribing and following along. Maybe you will discover some trails or ways to explore them that you haven't considered before.
...And thumbs up to you for even thinking about it - double thumbs up for getting out there and doing it.

Looks like a great bike!
bike looks fantastic!!
I agree - love the yellow Ohlins highlights!
I had to cable tie some fixings in the frame/battery compartment to get rid of a rattle. Bike now 5 years old and 25k km without a rattle.
I was just thinking of ordering this bike as a backup to my Canyon Spectral. Bummer on the control, but still seems like a great bike.
My impressions so far is it's a great bike. Suspension, handling, brakes, and the new EP801 area impressive. It won't disappoint you! Check their suspension setup guide so you order the right spring (us.yt-industries.com/support/suspension-setup/), note: its an "Ohlins 67mm Stroke Light Weight Spring" you can get from Jenson USA, and I followed the guidance on frame size they provided and am happy with it. (large for me instead of the medium I have with the Canyon).
@@roadlesstraveledtruckee Thank you for the great information. I was wondering about what spring, and now I don’t have to. Love your videos!
Yours too, keep it up. I have a friend that is creating some nice stickers for eMtb’s using an Amish theme. I’ll let you know when he’s got them ready.
Looks like a sweet bike man. I have a Canyon torque e. This is a good one you got. Do you ever ride Northstar or the flume tail. I am in your area too.
Torque looks like a great bike too. I’m in Truckee. I don’t ride Northstar except to get to other trails since I live very close in Truckee. I’ve not taken the eMtb over to flume trial yet. Still working my way that direction with all the trail exploring I’ve been doing - there is just so much great riding. Some great trail right across 267 from Northstar - unsanctioned but well built.
@@roadlesstraveledtruckee Right on man keep up the good work
Nice! I’m looking at getting a YT Decoy too. I live over at the north end of Dollar Creek Trail where it ends at Fulton Crescent Drive. I hope I see you out, I’d like to see that bike before I buy one.
Have friends over the next several days but I am out riding most days if your in the Truckee area later next week/weekend.
I was put off buying the Decoy a few years ago because of the sizing. Their large size was too short in the top tube and their XL was too long in the seat tube for my liking. It’s nice to see YT have improved those numbers for the 2024 models as they have always been good value.
Oh, and the improved battery is a huge bonus too, 504wh was laughable.
Thanks for the comment. Both of those items deserve more discussion so I think I’ll add my 2 cents in future videos. I’m conflicted on sizing but do like how this bike feels. The battery would have been a non starter at anything less than the 720 as you say.
What do you think of the Core 4 vs the Spectral ON CFR? The CFR is on a pretty good sale right now. I don't have experience with either brand or know anyone who does. I really want the Ohlins suspension and Hayes brakes. But the bigger battery on the CFR is also tempting. Also considering the Transition Repeater, because I'm local to Bellingham.
I think you have hit on the main differences. The 900 Whr battery in the Canyon is necessary for 3 hours + of actual ride time here in Tahoe. However, I rarely go out that long. When I do, I take the Canyon. The brakes and the Suspension on the YT are superior, and I do love that rear spring. The YT has caused me a bit of grief chasing the rattles and squeaks though I think that is now solved, but the canyons implementation of battery charging is problematic - the magnetic cover is fragile over time - vs YT which has a dedicated port. Though decision - they are both excellent bikes and you can’t go wrong with either.
@roadlesstraveledtruckee I'm about 230-240 geared up so the bigger the battery the better for me. But I do like the geo of the YT better, and especially the brakes. What kind of climbing time do you get out of your 720WH?
I feel no major difference in bike handling from the geometry and you can address the brakes by putting a 220 rotor in front. My last ride with the YT was 20 miles, 2500 ft of climbing, 2 hr ride time, all on Boost and ran it almost to empty. I’m 150 lbs but do ride aggressively probably like most people with these bikes.
bro that bike has not changes since 2021 lol
Do you prefer the YT or Spectral on? I'm on my third battery on the Canyon due to the casing cracking. So was thinking of getting a YT
Lots of positives about the YT including the way the battery connects to the motor and the way the charger connects to the charging port. For the price, the YT comes well equipped as well. I have the core 4 and the suspension and brakes are superior to the Canyon CF8. The CF8 was $1000 less when I bought it but the better suspension and better brakes alone make the YT a better choice I think.
@@roadlesstraveledtruckee That's great, thank you. If I can sell my Canyon I think I will get the core 3 👍
How are you liking the bike? I'm close to pulling the trigger on the YT Decoy Core 5.
I do like the bike, yes. I plan to publish more videos about it, one in the next couple days but bottom line is I think it is probably the best you can get in that price range. I do like the fox suspension, especially the 38 forks, and the free shift function would be awesome so I think the Core 5 will be great. Let me know how you like it if you get it. I don’t think you will be disappointed. My only complaint so far, and this will be the case with all the Decoy’s, is getting the cables to stop rattling in the frame has been a challenge. I’m sure I will eventually get it but at the moment, when the trail starts getting rough, the cables are clearly rattling in the frame.
My bike came recently and the box was also pretty damaged with a large hole in it. Fortunately nothing broken or missing. Video on my channel. Love the bike so far though.
Interesting, Ill check it out. Glad you love the bike though!
The core 4 doesn't even come in white and is clearly silver online. The water bottle is also clearly plastic, if you even look up the water bottle on their site, it states plastic.
Both good choices.
So you ordered “Liquid Metal” and expected it to be NOT metallic in color?
No, I’m more stupid than that. I don’t think I even checked what the name of the color was. I think I like the “Liquid Metal” color more now though. The cool color name is just a bonus…
@@roadlesstraveledtruckee 🤪 makes sense. Either color is good though.
YT spending all their money on brand ambassadors and neglecting RND
Or they are taking the benefit of scale and passing it down to you. I’d rather not pay another extra 1000 for geo that doesn’t need changed
@@carterschichtel9678 You can get a Canyon for the same price with much more modern geo and Bosch motor instead of Shimano, which are a huge plus!
Those problems are called quality issue. Bike costs big money and still you just can't build it and start enjoying.
Yes, quality is important.
@@roadlesstraveledtruckee I think quality is THE thing. Been riding Santa Cruzes for years. Even years of riding with one, zero problems. if they can'T fix quality issues, it's pretty soon bye bye. People do watch these videos and very often choose their purchase based on them. nowdays bad bike is bad for business.
Don’t forget that that Shimano motor when disengaged also rattles
I think I am starting to hear that now that I’ve quieted everything else. 90% less rattling now but something remains, and only when not peddling - unlike before. That’s probably it, thanks!
