The “chips” are plantains. You can have them like that or sweetened, when ripe.
Plaintain grow in the tropics and are common in Caribbean cultures!The menu calls them “plaintain chips”!
When I ate there several years ago, there was a guy in our group who was born in Cuba. He loved their food. Their 1905 salad is absolutely wonderful. Glad you got it. Can't wait to get back to St Augustine to eat there again.
I'm sorry that your lunch wasn't the best. It usually is. The Columbia House is a real treat to have a meal at. The atmosphere is incredible.

The original Columbia restaurant is in Ybor city in Tampa. That’s the one that’s been around since 1905.
From a Hawaiian- mahi-mahi is pronounced like “ maw he maw he”. The “h”sound is strong!

I used to live in Daytona Beach and would regularly make the short trip to my absolute favorite restaurant Colombia !
I had my wedding reception here in 1983. Raised in Tampa this is my favorite restaurant ever
We ate there in 2015 it was ok, I liked the salad. My favorite is Harry's on the Bay. We got our post card yesterday, thank you!! It was pretty.
I wish you could have shown the fountain. The food looked ok hopefully your server is ok and you guys don't get sick. Be praying for you guys another great video makes me want to see the restaurant.
Columbia restaurant is also located in Tampa and in Celebration Florida it is the best. Yes those are banana chips. They have a special salad that is so good. They used to make it in front of you but not in these times. Great choice!

We have a restaurant in Shallotte, NC called, Duffer's and they have a wonderful cuban sandwich. It is my favorite.
Good morning! I'm currently visiting St. Augustine! My wife and I attended the UT-Florida basketball game on Tuesday! Then, we swung over to St.Augustine!
I ate at the one in Tampa. So good. The sangria they make tableside was amazing.

I bet Dawn was "tooting her own horn" later that day with the beans and potatoes, lol! The banana chips are plantain chips looks like a banana but taste different say they taste like a potato.

If younare in Treasure Island you are just a few miles from the best Cuban in Tampa Bay at The Floridian. Younhave to try it.

I love a Cubano sandwich. A pity about yours that establishment has a quality control issue, it’s their signature dish.
The ORIGINAL restuarant is in Ybor, FL.
Columbia is in South America. It does have Spanish influences.
Love the plates and dinnerware in gift shop. I love bright colors.

1905 salad is the bomb!
I never really liked the flavor of bananas. But your chips are plantains. One time my parents had bought a plantain and put it on the kitchen counter. I came home late from work, and grabbed what I thought was a banana to eat. I was too lazy to cook anything so settled for the "nasty banana". When I ate it, it was the most delicious banana I've ever hard. Not too sweet. Savory. Delicious. I found out the next morning it was a plantain ha ha.

The BEST cuban food is actually in Pigeon Forge at Ol Smokies cafe. You should do a review on them. I love the slow cooked beef and sweet plaintain 😋.

The way that those type sandwiches are done especially in New Orleans are adding virgin olive oil to it or a mixture of cut up olives and vinger type dressing poured over the meat..
It's not garlic bread, it's pressed Cuban bread.

Yes plantains are just great. U should try the 1904 salad. It’s amazing and the rest of the food is wonderful. Never had the Cuban there. Scary to think u had a sick waiter. What’s wrong with him!!

They probably sell those Plantain Chips in the grocery stores in Pigeon Forge. They have always sold them here in Orlando even before the large Hispanic population arrived.
The best Cuban sandwich is a block or so away at The Cuban Cafe and Bakery. There are much better things on the menu than what you ordered at The Columbia.

Took my wife there for our 5year anniversary and the 1905 salad was great she said and the stuffed mushrooms but our main course was awful I had the breaded steak and she had the stuffed shrimp both were terrible I ate a quarter of my steak and she ate one shrimp and we asked for the bill and to go boxes didn't want it to go to waste so we gave it to some homeless woman this place is overated and definitely overpriced!

Sorry you had another bad experience with a Cuban sandwich. It looked rather dry. My husband had a really good Cuban sandwich at the little Cuban Restaurant in Pigeon Forge but that was years ago. It has changed owners since then. I know y'all did a review of that Cuban restaurant a few years ago.
