But I recall that you once had a catastrophic shaft drive failure on your GS
Chain drive maintenance is no big deal, honestly.

Ducati didn't sell it well at the start, where is the inspiration?😂 "We added a vent because the engine is too hot, we added a fan because your phone was too hot, the engine startup was improved".
That wasn’t a sales intro. Alex is in technical support, I believe, and was just showing Sterling around the bike. One cool thing is that Ducati listens to feedback (in fact, regularly seeks it out) and makes running changes to their models, such as adding cooling fans to EXISTING Multistrada V4 models owned by customers, improving the phone compartment when designing the Rally, and adding the adjustable air channels, which do make a substantial difference.

looks like it sits well upright for sure and great technology. But for me I can't find anything that tops my hexhead GS when it comes to being able to work on the bike myself in the middle of nowhere. Mo tech, Mo Problems.

I own a 1200s gt Multistrada that’s 7 years old ....It’s a big twin thumper that has brought so many smiles to my face.
This year I bought a brand new V4 Grand Tour that I am at present running in 😊..Totally agree with you Sterling the V4 is now in a different place from the old V2, it’s far more friend to ride and I get the feeling will be far more comfortable on long tours as main reason for my purchase...

The glimpse into Eva's origin story was a nice treat. Hearing that she climbed Mt. Washington as a teenager and alpine camped with her dad was no surprise. Sounds about right. Honestly, I'd only be slightly surprised if we learned that Eva was an alien princess from the planet of light who was hidden on earth as a baby to protect her from a cosmic villain, and that's why she's a comic book super hero.

Agreed. All the Euro and American brands of ADV bikes are crazy expensive, when they're fully optioned out, but Ducati is next level and not in a good way. It almost feels like they've raised the barrier for entry for exclusivity. That's a nice way of saying "snob appeal". Lol
Yup! I agree - its probably not in my future to purchase one but I couldn't resist the chance to ride it Now, if money were no object....
yes. Motorcycling - at least a certain type, so called "adventure" - is becoming an elite thing. You MUST have some bikes, they MUST be equipped a certain way, you MUST wear some special gear. That is not the way I mean motorcycle touring. I feel I/ we need to resist the pressure from manufacturer to buy expensive stuff. What matters is what we do.

Fuel economy is a lot worse compared to a GS so you'll have to fill up more often.

After owning 4 GS and GSA bikes, I am super disappointed with the way 1300 looks. I don't even care if it is the best riding machine on earth at this point. If I go back to Adventure Touring (in my case touring only) type of motorcycle, I will get the Multistrada without a doubt!.
I recently had a long stretch of riding in pretty heavy fog and the adaptive cruise gave me some piece of mind because it was able to maintain the prescribed distance to the Ford I was trailing.
well done and nice change of pace for your and Eva...I see you on a new R1300GS as they have came a long ways in 7yrs. I hope/dream to upgrade my R1200GSA in the near future.
Rode this bike and certainly didn’t hate it but I think I’ll hold off being a customer till they truly solve the heat issue, power the windshield and in a perfect put a shaft drive on it though that’s not a deal breaker. Also, given the lower mpg, a larger tank would also be a nice feature on the v4s/grand tour versions.

For me personally I wouldn’t be happy on long distance remote riding/touring on a bike with that much ‘tech’….too much to go wrong? …..except maybe on a Honda! 🇬🇧
It was so nice to ride for those couple of days but I would be somewhat afraid to go off-road with such a beautiful and expensive bike. And thats not a criticism of the bike either, just something to consider

Growing up in Easter Townships of Quebec, we skied @ Stowe a few times - steep steep runs. Fabulous ski mountain...land of the Von Trapp family. Vermont is so beautiful as reminded in your video. Cool you captured a covered bridge. Too bad it was overcast on Mt Washington - quite the view from there. You and Eva deserved to be invited by Ducati - good on ya! 👊

nice and interesting, entertaining too. For the records, I took my 2000 Ducati ST4 to col de la Bonette, 2802 m (9193ft), the highest European paved pass. Cruise mode was in my wrist, ABS in my foot and hand.
I've become a follower of your channel. First time I saw Eva. Nice addition to the story. Super fun to see you together. You have a way of telling the story that is truly unique. I'm pretty fond of my 2014 Multi. Fun bike. Except for it's worthless rear brake, which is an issue on all Ducati's single sided swingarm models.
I rode the auto road in the early 80s on my Honda CB 650 (4cyl) Custom. I could not get out of 2cd gear on the way up.
I am SO glad I own a new 1250 GSA.. if I want to go fast, I will fire up the Hayabusa. No need for anything else

Sterling & Eva - great video, as always! You should definitely consider doing more of these “review” kind of videos. There are not many people with more off-roading AND filming experience than Sterling, and we have too few female riders in the ADV world. When the two of you speak, I listen. You know your stuff.
Regarding the MultiStrada: Absolutely love the design language of the Ducati MS 4S. 36k service interval?! That’s crazy! BMW - take note!! Main distraction for me? Chain drive instead of shaft?! C’mon now!
You definitely made good career choices! … I love Stowe and the Mountain resort but no one has ever invited me on a paid weekend there and provided me with a Ducati to ride!! Very jealous, where did I go wrong lol 😆

Nice video. Like seeing you two together doing a video. I currently have an older (2009) BMW R1200 GSA Premium, coming from my last 6 bikes all Ducati's. Im a Ducati guy through and through, but I LOVE my GS Adventure. Wrecked almost a yr. ago on my multistrada first gen, breaking both feet pretty bad. Glad you like the Doc, Im sure you will do a cross country ride on one. Great bike.... but my BMW has a special place in my heart.

Very good, I think I’ve had 2 or 3 of them in about 10 years.
Be fair, when it needs an oil change and the engine light comes on the dash, it MUST go to Ducati dealership to be oil changed and the computer reset for the light to go out - $200+. No thx. "Former ducati owner"

Couple of questions Sterling.
1) How is seat height compared to your 1200 GS?
2) was this the model with the 7.9 gallon gas tank?
I would say that it felt very comparable to my GS in terms of height and geometry. It was the RS bike, whatever size fuel tank, that one has.
Rode a Multistrada V4S Grand Tour in the Black Forest a few months ago while I was in Germany. A fun and fast touring bike for sure. I’ll still keep the GSA though!

Not at all - like all tech, it's a double-edged sword - it can add comfort and safety but it also means there is more to go wrong or break.
It's like drinking an expensive wine... hard to back to on-the-shelf wine afterwards... And I am a BMW rider too 😂

I've never ridden a Multistrada but a guy I know has one and it's a very nice looking bike. Ducati is known for making good looking bikes but the Multistrada looks well designed and implemented as well. Honestly, probably my only negative impression of Ducati was the desmodromic valves but the 36,000 mile service interval is very impressive. So much for biased impressions. I tend to like smaller and simpler bikes but that adaptive cruise control sure looks nice.
It was such a beautiful bike… I don’t think I would feel comfortable riding it off-road!
The V4 multi uses valve springs. That’s why it has 36k mile service.
@@kj385 - I assumed the Multistrada didn't have desmo valves but even then, a 36,000 mile service interval for a motorcycle is very impressive.

Congratulations on being invited along, especially in such a beautiful location! I’ve had several GS/GS Adventure models as well as the last three Pikes Peak and Enduro/Rally iterations. The Rally is my current “big bike,” and is the best yet, in my opinion. Yes, it is a bit heavy, especially with nearly eight gallons of fuel on top, and the direct comparison would be with the GS Adventure. Ducati was the first manufacturer to install front and rear radar. The adaptive cruise control is actually tuned more for tracking four wheel vehicles, as the small profile of motorcycles does not always provide enough of a radar signature, although it still often works well. While I don’t rely solely on the blind spot monitoring (I always do a shoulder check before lane changes), I’ve found it provides a welcome additional level of safety. Ducati included additional fuel saving technology with the Rally and I routinely, comfortably get well over 300 miles per tank fill, similar to GS Adventure, and, at 5 feet, eight inches (and old), I appreciate the preload release function, both for ease of lifting the bike off the side stand and to make touch down easier when exiting highways, particularly after a long day’s ride. Yes, there is the chain to consider, but the center stand makes that a minor issue.
It’s always cool to see Jason Chinnock, the North American CEO participating in these events. He and the rest of the Ducati NA crew are very customer oriented in addition to being enthusiasts themselves. (Check out Big Rock Moto’s and MotoGeo’s long form videos on the Colorado launch of the V4 Rally and Desert X, respectively).
As you mentioned, the V4 Rally is not only responsive and comfortable, but also gives you the sense that it could safely and easily take you across continents. I hope to ride mine to the Arctic Ocean later this year.

was this an ad? I felt like this was ad. I normally love your stuff, and I feel like it was a good video but a disclosure at the beginning of the video would have been more transparent and helpful than 3/4 of the way through. Also Eve came off really strong. Like used car salesman strong.

You have added so, so much to the ADV community with your videos for BDRs and all your personal adventures - showing us areas of the US and Canada which we'd not normally travel. Wow what a great privilege and great trip !! Disappointed that in the North America market they wouldn’t think to have a rain mode on such a high end bike. Up here in the PNW it would be much expected.
Think urban is basically rain mode. Limits power softens throttle and suspension
