Just bought a '23 GT Pro today! I REALLY wanted a 1300GS after riding one but the Tiger was literally $12k cheaper!!! Maybe I'll switch to a used 1300GS in a few years but super happy with the savings for now! Love your content!

My local Triumph dealer couldn't move a single 1200 for months. I came in and bought a GT Pro - the very first one in my dealer's region. Within the next 2 weeks, they sold 2 more.
Sometimes it's fun to be the early adopter. Where I live, a used GS costs as much as a new 1200, so I thought why not give Triumph a chance, as I can borrow a GS/GSA anytime.
After the first 1000km, I think my bike sits exactly between a Multistrada V4 and a GS in terms of sportiness and comfort, while being much cheaper than both brand new. It's not perfect, but I don't regret my decision - yet :D

  • @rihorsburgh

By the sounds of it, Triumph have really delivered here (compared with their previous iterations). I think the fact we have differences between all these bikes is great, they're not trying to just copy each other but hopefully provide something unique. It really is great as a consumer to have such wonderful choices.
Thanks for your review, Scott - they're always a pleasure to watch.

I got Tiger 900 GT Pro and I absolutely love it with few exception - one being the noticeable vibration on above 60 mph and second one is the gear 1 being almost a dead beat even in a bumper to bumper traffic - What i love the most is comfort, head turning styles and freedom to simply change my suspension settings automatically. Cornering ABS, and auto cancel turn signals are simply amazing

As a owner of GT Pro I agree with everything you said except that while their is vibration like every other bike except a Goldwing I find the bike very comfortable in every way including vibration. My BMW R9T has more vibration and will cause my fingers to tingle after a few hours. I've ridden the Tiger on several 1000 mile day rides with no discomfort from vibration.

Great job, Scott. You made this video very informative and likeable.
About the bike itself: In my opinion, Triumph made a big mistake with the new Tiger 1200. At least with the GT models, they should have stuck with the previous 180 degree crankshaft. On the rally models, a 240 or 270 degree crankshaft makes perfect sense, but not on a street model. The great advantage of the Triple, this great "smooth" engine running, has been given away. I fear that not only I will miss out on the new 1200, this change in engine concept will cost Triumph some potential buyers.

For example, a 2006 Honda CBF 600 S ABS with ~18 000 km on the odometer is usually for sale at the price of 4200 € and Yamaha MT-07 2014 with 25 000 km for 7200 €.

Just purchased the Tiger Rally Explorer and am loving it… I’m coming off a 1200 GS, which was also a great bike.
The GS’s fit and finish is better, but fit and finish is overrated. Service intervals are much farther apart on the Triumph. The Tiger handles better in the dirt because of the 21” front end. The GS’s throttle mapping is better down low, but Triumph should be able to adjust the Tiger’s map easily.. it’s just software..
I never got used to the telelever front end on the GS.. it never gave be much confidence.. always felt vague in the dirt..
Anyway, so far, I’m very happy with the Tiger. If I fall out of love in a couple years I may go back to BMW, but I certainly wouldn’t purchase the first year of the new GS, as they tend to have quite a few issues in their first year or so.

Nice bike. I do however have trouble with the concept of an adventure bike making its peak power and torque at 9000rpm! I would go so far as to not call that a true adventure bike, it is a sport touring bike with long travel suspension. I would class it akin to the Versys 1000 without as much bloat, more sport and a very cool swing arm/shaft drive assembly. I completely agree: R1250GS all day long, twice on Sundays.

    • @scottstewart5784
      @scottstewart5784 2 года назад

The "peak torque" metric is flawed. Unlike horsepower, which normally climbs steadily from 3K -to redline, and peak matters, torks in the Tiger 1200 tork climbs quickly, then stays flat or maybe a slight rise at some RPM around 8K or 9K, and that peak is reported. But that number isn't very informative. We want to know when the torks come on, and where the meat is. The most fun I have on my 2020 Tiger 1200 is a long pull in third from 3K RPM, say 35 MPH, as far up the rev range as I dare, given the context. Point is it has the grunt to pull it off without downshifting, and mine weighs 20 kilos more and has 9 fewer horsepower and a couple less torks. I ride fast, and I live between 3500 and 7000.

How much better on the road corners is the GT than the rally explorer?

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  Год назад

Well, it's the difference between the 19" & 21" front tire basically. And yes, I notice the difference when riding aggressively especially in a corner. But in normal riding conditions, I really didn't notice much difference at all.

For anyone who doesn't mind doing some reading, here's a couple of issues with the new Tiger you need to look out for - the hydraulic clutch not being adjusted properly at the dealership, and leaking clutch slave cylinders....
"New bike: 2022 Tiger 1200 GT Explorer
Picked it up on Friday, rode away very carefully and gingerly, new bike and all getting familiar with the biting point etc is something that just comes with time.
Naturally, new engine has run in requirements and has its restrictions, can't go above 3.5k rpm for first 100 miles so it's very careful riding and no high revs - because of this one wouldn't notice a clutch issue, because you're treating it like a newborn.
The first time I noticed the engine not giving its full power was when I went for my first overtake - pulled the trigger and it revved without pulling the bike. Me being the optimistic chump I am assumed this was a rev-protection feature to do with the run-in period....surely it's not a clutch issue...
I'm obviously taking the bike back to have it sorted, but I'm after the following advice because this for me has killed the joy of my first zero-mile machine:
When it came to this process, I did it all by the book - the bedding in the lot, it's precious to me because I want the absolute best engine for its entire life time.
Now I find the entire time the clutch has been slipping, from 1st gear on every launch, to 5th and 6th gear when trying to pull away at 60/70/80 MPH - engine revved and clutch slipped, it took about 30 seconds to get from 70 to 80 because it was slipping so hard.
Could this have damaged the run-in process? When we run in are we doing it only to the engine pistons side or to the crank/clutch side also?
Is there any, and I mean ANY way, this stupid screw up will have cause some kind of minor damage to the new perfect engine during its first 300miles?
250 miles later and we've unlocked up to 5k rpm. Now it's painfully obvious that the clutch is slipping:. Any attempt to take off quickly, even within the 5k range, results in the revs flying and the bike not pulling. In addition to the horrible feeling powerless engine, I stopped to find oil had leaked surrounding the main engine oil cap, but was unable to tell if this had leaked from the cap itself or from the hydraulic clutch.
As for the hydraulic clutch, apparently its somewhat different to previous versions and is externally adjustable, even though its hydraulic - it caught them out and they apologized; its now its adjusted and working as intended.
I just got unlucky with an o-ring and a clutch that caught the technicians off-guard - please do learn from this and if the clutch feels like it has a very late biting point when you ride it away, or after you unlock 5k RPM it isnt pulling with the revs, take it back right away and let them know its a new style clutch!
They were able to fix my clutch with just an adjustment, haven't had any issues since - however I am still getting a slight oil leak and they've replaced the oil cap o-ring twice now, if it leaks again I'll take note of your issue and push for a full inspection on the slave cylinder!
600 miles and 5 days with new Tiger 1200 GT PRO and clutch not clearing. Located to leaking clutch slave cylinder. Replaced under warranty and dealer told me that replacement cylinder looked very different to original. Also, another bike in showroom had leaking slave cylinder for which Triumph was ending replacement. Bad batch or design fault? What is the extent of recall? No problems since, further 600 miles and enjoying bike, drive and handling is awesome.
Looks like a slave cylinder leak. Triumph will replace under warranty. I would go sooner rather than later. My bike is going back again on Saturday for investigation into headlight mount. The headlight can be moved, as if the cushion has become dislodged.
The slave cylinder is on top of the clutch housing behind the guard that is next to the oil filler cap - the master cylinder is on the handlebar. The cable going to the lever on the clutch housing comes from the slave cylinder and there is some manual adjustment.
I have a new (3 weeks old) GT Explorer with exactly the same issue as yours. I called my Triumph dealer today and they said - master cylinder fault and to send it in via Triumph recovery. Really not happy about it. Why over engineer a bike - it’s more complicated, more expensive and less reliable than a traditional cable. Miffed!"

To this day, I curse KTM for dropping the 1090 Adventure and not improving it. It's lighter, has more than enough power and is just more fun. I'm a bit of an anti-BMW person for some reason, even though their bikes are great from a rational perspective. I just don't like their system of adding on prices for standard functionality and their service costs are very high. As for the Triumph, I think they're trying too hard to be BMW with the 1200. Almost no one is going to ride bikes that weigh and cost as much as these do off road and risk breaking stuff. I don't even think they make much sense as everyday commuter machines. Too heavy and ungainly.
