1. you should have turned the wheel so that the nail is on top and away from vehicle, this gives you a better angle to do your work 2. you needed to go 2/3 in, Looks like you barely went half way in. 3. This doesn't necessarily have to be a temporary fix, I have driven years on a patched tire.
I agree I ran one for like almost a year when I was broke counter new tires only reason got new one was the tread wore completely off but the plug was still there
If you're plugging from the outside there's a 50% chance of making a separate hole, If you get the angle wrong. Even when you get it right they leak a quarter of the time...the Project Farm channel tested this kit and a couple others that shows it. If you get a nail in your tire fill it with air go to a shop and get a patch. The only time I plug a tire is when It doesn't have much tread and I do it from the inside in a way that it's just as good as a patch and takes less time...

It is permanent if you do it right. Don't let the tire shop tell you otherwise. I work for a truck fleet, we only plug. Never had a single failure.
