I was so inspired by this video that I'm getting Nickelodeon to celebrate this day next Wednesday. No one can do everything but everyone can do something.
I really respect his courage to put all of his passion into this idea he really believes in despite the critics. The world could use more people like him. I respect his dream and I honestly believe it could work out.
I was like "yeah, ok, whatever, one day of peace, " but then he said over a million children were vaccinated and in one second my eyes were full of tears and I got it.
Wow, thank you so much for your wonderful work! 💕🌟💯It’s growing , although I’ve joined in prayer for years on International Peace Day, I never knew the history and how it started! You’re awesome!!! ❤️🙏🏽✌️May Peace Prevail in our hearts and thru out the world.
it reminds of Sept '85 when some one shared "Take back the night". I shook my head and shared " why take back the night? take back your life . . I don't want Peace for one day. . I want Peace as a way of life. I want the Abundance of nature be used for the good instead of have the greed of a few spoil it for all. . just imagine what 6 billion, oops , 7 billion now. . hey can we all play stupid. no money and just do as needs be done? and make music where ever so much as a hint of trouble brew
This blew my mind... It's incredible. It's fantastic. And it's such a simple idea too. Why haven't I heard of this until now? Why didn't anyone else have this idea before? Expect me to do whatever I can on September the 21st
the world is at its peak on wars since WW2 and riots and protests are on its peak since maybe ever.... but i am pleased to know they have helped millions of kids in war zones. good attitude.
Love is all you need. Yes, as a species we faught and struggled and killed and it made us stronger and smarter. But we've reached a point where we know that we can make progress better through communication and cooperation than through war. We just have to get past our egos. As Christopher Hitchens is known for saying, our prefrontal lobes are too small while our adrenal glands are too big. Fight or flight helped us on The Great Plains but will kill us if we don't adopt peace.
The Taliban agrees but where is the media? This day has been around for almost 10 years now and is still practically unheard of in first world nations. Peace may not be that interesting, but a 70% reduction in violence is. Thank you Jeremy for all that you do.
There is a type of peace inside each of us when we slow down for a moment and take an intentional breath. Wonder what would happen if we did that more often, as a whole?
Wow, here is an example of an individual making a difference by actually *doing* something rather than just complaining about things. I tip my hat to you, Mr Gilley. (though that last analogy to homoeopathy was a little crazy)
Really enjoyed this talk. The best Ted talks are when they capture you, the ones that keep you focused and interested in what they have to say. First I have heard of peace day but I agree with it 100% and that every bit counts :) Loved the end quote he used of one white square and one drop in a jar of clear water
Preciosa presentación! My heart is inspired by this incredible message! All of us can help to Peace on this beautiful Earth! Kindness instead of violence has the power to change humanity
When I was a teenager I loved violence. As I got older I realized violence is wrong because I don't want to be harmed and I'm no better or worse than any other living creature and the only reason one would think differently is because of ego. One way we build our ego (the story of "me") is by identifying with ideologies. If you identify yourself as X, those who are Y are seen as different. This is where alienation starts and enemies are found. If you let go of ego there is no enemy.
amazing talk ... i myself have spent alot of time thinking about peace how can we make people not hate each other stop violence etc... what i came up with is like that ... peace is a very fragile state and one mans lust for power of any kind can break it , that lust is just inevitable and will happen. AMAZing talk and i will support it on facebook whatever i will tell people about this day and i will share that video with my friends hope you will do the same and maybe peace will spread !
"If you put a drop of something in water it will change it forever" - the problem with this is that it also works for conflict. You may have peace, but all it takes is one act of agression to ruin it all.
Great Idea ! You may scoff. But its power is that it plants a miniscule seed, a pause which can contribute to the change of mindset of humanity from 'today we fight just like we have always done' to 'today we do not fight, today my loved ones will not die - hey, this is better - hey, I want this'. In society of XBox helicopter warriors etc. who can can yell 'yee-haa' as they take lives (re: Collateral Murder) - This is really needed.
The beauty of it is that there can be interviews conducted betw/ performances. I spoke with a well-known oud player who was once exiled from Iraq who said he'd be interested. But I need lots of help with this. I would like to see tax deductions for those common and wealthy musicians who participate. That's further down the road.
Wouldn't it be great if the media would show this on the TV - there might be some chance for all of us then to live in a more peaceful world without killing and senseless violence
@TherianthropeAndrewH It's certainly possible, there are many regions/countries in the world where people aren't at each others throats, they're fine with questioning politics and religion, you won't be killed for leaving or joining and people hate war...Now getting that to a global scale I agree would be really difficult, maybe impossible, but we have to give it a try.
@UncertainTruth we have the ability to reason, contemplate and think about the consequences of our actions. yes we're animals with instincts but that's no excuse..
@azcentralsurprise Thankfully, through proper education and upbringing, we can reduce their numbers. Achieving peace is a constant battle, just like life itself. You need to struggle in order to maintain it, and you can develop better ways of holding onto it. These grand gestures may be naive and idealistic, but they are a positive influence. Even if they do not have a direct effect, they do attract creative and intelligent people to work on the subject, producing solutions and new methods.
You know how I know this wouldn't work? I had the thought "Why wouldn't I mess with this?" I don't know if I actually would, but I think SOMEONE would. Another group of oppressed people might think nothing of this and use it as an advantage to strike with force against their oppressor, if their oppressor ever gave up. With the inequalities of the world, I REALLY don't think this is happening any time soon. Not in our lifetimes, at least. Doesn't mean it's not a decent goal.
@Magmacano It is a default setting simply because it takes an effort to start a conflict. But it takes no effort to not fight. And if humans are mindless primitive animals, then maybe peace indeed is not an option...
@violet101 its not an excuse its the reality of the situation , you say "but thats not an excuse" as if it removes the fact of the matter from the equation
@AlonSandler Please, just do me a favor. This coming September 21st, just be nice to people. Don't think about where they have come from or what they think of you, just be nice to them. And if it goes well, try it again one year later.
@rbairos1 The problem is that in nature, it's much easier to get what you want with violence. People will always have disagreements, and when this occurs on a larger scale, countries go to war. Diplomacy and negotiating only goes so far before natural instinct kicks in and shots are fired.
@sashakid It is a default setting simply because it takes an effort to start a conflict. But it takes no effort to not fight. And if humans are mindless primitive animals, then maybe peace indeed is not an option...

This is of the same level as world peace in beauty contests
The beauty of it is that there can be interviews conducted betw/ performances. I spoke with a well-known oud player who was once exiled from Iraq who said he'd be interested. How can i get the shirt that he's wearing?
Oh Jeremy; because you're worth it.........
Cool, my birth day is Septemeber 20th. That's a nice way to start each new year :D
Wouldn't it be great if the media would show this on the TV - there might be some chance for all of us then to live in a more peaceful world without killing and senseless violence
@TheRacoonGhost Awesome quote. John Lennon is such an inspiration.
Woo, 1000+!!
Very Good I Like It

Many people I personally know, in real life, in the flesh and blood, can rationalize war. They look weird when I rationalize peace. Is that not odd?!
Am i the only one, who find it ridiculous, that people fight even despite the fact that peace is a default setting?
You know how I know this wouldn't work? I had the thought "Why wouldn't I mess with this?" I don't know if I actually would, but I think SOMEONE would. More like national peace day. World peace day would include everything on the world.
WHAT? (must use CC to follow the story, can't hear anymore)
@Magmacano
It is a default setting simply because it takes an effort to start a conflict.
But it takes no effort to not fight.
And if humans are mindless primitive animals, then maybe peace indeed is not an option...
@file83 You realize there are 364 other days, right?
Peace is Possible...

what are the conseqesnces of war for:
The economy
health
the environment
Education
Democracy, help me
You never mentioned the benefits of war. Resources.

@violet101 its not an excuse its the reality of the situation , you say "but thats not an excuse" as if it removes the fact of the matter from the equation
wow wow wow
let's see who believe we can have world peace, thumbs up if u do, and lets count!

Why are people complaining about the intro? It's not bad. If you want to lose your hearing early I guess. XD

@outsidemendham They started this before September 11th and that day doesn't have much meaning for anyone else in the world besides the U.S.
@azcentralsurprise
Thank you, and you're very welcome ^^
Why is this the worst year ever in Afghanistan for U.S. soldier deaths? Doesn't sound like peace day is working so well in Afghanistan.
@kolomo i'm quite happy really, i just hope people dont start stealing ideas and claiming it as their own =__=
