The interior shows an older design but it's classic elegance. Dark wood, brass trim and older style light fixtures. Makes a comfortable travel atmosphere that's restful. Something they could add for fun would be a snack trolly to roll by at some set time on the trip. We used to have those on USA travel trains and especially the children loved the candy selection.

5:32 You can tell this is a 30-year old train from the "no celphones" sign that still has celphones with an antenna.

Japan's railway system is very impressive in that it makes it convenient for people to travel across islands and cities in comfort and convenience. It makes me wonder why so many want to live in Tokyo when there are other prosperous cities in other parts of the country.

Gosh, this looks like the most comfortable train to just chill. I can see myself working on this train and even taking a quick nap. It is not too bright in the room, so that is a plus for me

I just love your relaxing videos. The next random video played and I jumped in my seat, from tranquil Japan to screaming USA in one second flat. Ugh. Sure hope we can visit in the near future. Daughter and I were supposed to vacation in Japan and Covid became the worldwide pandemic so that changed our plans in a hurry. Now I wait for daughter to get the month off in the future. Great trip, in my country, some of long distance train always running more than 5 hours and yes all of them are seating train. Even some train can running nearly 20 hours because the train is fully economy class train and required to stop often to make high tier train can passing.

「つばめ」型の個室グリーン、乗ったことがありました。夏季の帰省期間中の「ドリームつばめ」が個室グリーンしか空いてなく、一人で専有しました。寝るときは座席で寝るよりソファーで寝るほうがいいですね。
一人からでも利用できるのでいいですよね〜
ソファは結構おっきめなので余裕で寝られますよね😃

Bonjour 👋 travelgeek, merci pour ce trajet. Pour un train de 30 ans, il est bien conservé et il a belle allure. La cabine est spacieuse (la classe pour une personne seule) j'ai été étonnée de l'interdiction de l'usage du portable. C'était un super voyage. Ce que je trouve vraiment bien dans votre pays ce sont les hôtels à capsules c'est ce qui manquent en France c'est simples, confortables et pas chères. Merci beaucoup pour cette vidéo et à bientôt ☺️ pour d'autres découvertes. Bonne journée.

I was amused by your comment about 5-1/2 hours being a long trip. In Australia, we have journeys of up to 13 hours. Any way, i would rather a 5 or even 13 hour trip in a train rather than an airplane.
But surely the 13 hour trips are done on sleep trains? He said it was a long trip for a non sleeper train

私は、博多から大分まで特急ソニック、大分から宮崎まで特急にちりんシーガイア、宮崎から鹿児島中央まで特急きりしまで、逆向きにぐるっと回ったことがあります。すーごく時間がかかるんですよね。でも新幹線なら鹿児島中央～博多間は１時間半もかからない。
日豊本線のゆっくり旅、お金と時間と気持ちに余裕のある時にまたやってみたいです。

I’m amaze that no-one tries to move from lower class seat to higher class compartment after their ticket has been checked. In certain countries, people will do the sneaky thing since “the green class is vacant anyway.” 😟

今って在来線で最長距離を走る特急って、九州内で完結してしまうんですね！
前までは｢にちりんシーガイア24号｣という停車駅数30＆所要時間6時間6分の列車があったんですけど、変わっちゃったんですね。

まさかの宮崎弁当売り切れはショックでしたね、長距離の長旅のときに個室は誰とも相席にならずくつろげるからいいですね。
まさかあの店にしか駅弁売っていないとは驚きでした😅
個室がある列車は珍しいですが、意外と安く使えたりするのでよく利用します😃
少し説明を！現在ドーム型部分は指定席！ですが当時は現在のグリーンクラス💺のようなカフェテリア☕がその場所にありました。更にいえばデラックスクラスの場所にも向かい座席💺がありました。そしてリクライニングボタンの反対側にはヘッドホン🎧️対応での音楽サービスがありました。そして現在の新幹線つばめの西鹿児島と博多の間と博多から小倉経由での南宮崎行きがありました。そうそう！東京発の博多行きの最終新幹線🚄の接続の役目もありまして途中の小倉では博多発小倉経由南宮崎行きのドリームにちりん！終着博多では西鹿児島行きのドリームつばめ！がそれぞれ夜行列車でのエスコートをしていました。懐かしいですね。
It takes me about 10-12 hours to go almost 300 miles by train, from Austin. Texas to Marshall, Texas. It's nor a sleeper, either.

コレは素敵ですね。JR九州は線路がだいぶヤバいですが、この広さでゆったり移動できるのは良い。車両の方もだいぶ草臥れてるのが残念ですが、お金無いから仕方ないかw

そうですね、線路が古いのと線路の幅が狭いというのが相まって縦と横の揺れが凄まじかったです笑
宮崎駅の駅弁売り切れ残念でしたね！
宮崎出張の際、宮崎駅をよく利用しますが西口の（駅舎に向かって左手一番奥に有る）飲食店街のテイクアウトのお弁当が以外と美味しいです！！

九州車両が海外みたいで垢抜けてるのは水戸岡デザインだからだよ
この787系はデザイナーの水戸岡鋭治氏でほぼほぼ初めて丸ごとデザインされた車両だよ
ドーンデザイン研究所って会社だからググるといいよ
まだ現役で鹿児島本線のつばめ運用だった頃よくコンパートメント利用したなぁ
つばめ時代は2人利用からだったけど一人でも使えるようになったのね

I guess they send all you travel vloggers to do the same thing. I just watched someone ride that line and stay in a similar compartment yesterday but their trip was the opposite direction of yours and the compartment and bathrooms were dirty!
So, if there were three people sharing that compartment, would they all have to pay the compartment fee, or does one fee cover the whole compartment,no matter how many people share it?
The room charge covers the whole! No matter on how many (Up to 4)

最近は自販機がない電車が増えてますよね😅
河内磐船駅発行！ってのはどうでもいいとして、最近は3時間以上の移動の時はできるだけ上級クラスを利用するようになりました。カネがなくてもやっぱり着いたあとの疲れ方が違いますよね。あと基本車内が静かだからぐっすり眠れる。
