Some times you say things that don't even make sense. The sales TAX doesn't go to the stores, the stores pay the tax to the government for sale of an item , the government gets all that money, whether it be state tax or government tax. So it would be senseless for one store not to charge tax and another one not to, they can be charged with tax evasion.

The problem is when you visit a city that is Democrat controlled versus Republican
The Democrats are communists who want to crash the Bill of Rights
The Republicans want to preserve the Constitution and the freedoms it gives Americans

I guess people - especially foreigners - don’t realize how big Philadelphia is. It lies between NYC and DC so it often gets overlooked. But Philly is a huge city. And believe it or not it is a major tourist destination. And it’s a shame they visited in January. Summer is so beautiful in the city. You can dine alfresco at most restaurants and lots happening.

Philadelphia has the largest natural park within its city limits of any city in the world. The first operating room in the U.S. is in Philadelphia. W.L. Gore Created Goretex, they are in Wilmington, Delaware considered in the Greater Philadelphia area. Philadelphia is a city of Neighborhoods. Each Neighborhood has it's own culture. Old City has been preserved from colonial days. The cobblestone streets were Ben Franklin's idea. Ships that came from Europe to bring goods back would have the boat loaded with stones which they'd off load at Penns Landing. The piles got too high and they needed to find a way to get rid of them. Franklin had the idea to use them to pave the streets.

I'm from the U.S. and I am so socially awkward, I seek out stores with self checkouts, the invention of the ATM was one of the highlights of my life. You two need to come to Minnesota, (Minneapolis, St. Paul) in the summer. We have lots of things to see and do including the Mall of America, the largest shopping mall in the United States. It has its own wedding chapel, indoor amusement park, several very nice restaurants, hundreds of stores, an entertainment floor with movie theaters and comedy club. We have no sales tax on clothing here so no added expense.

🙌💯 Yes! @Joel & Lia Come in late August and catch the Minnesota State Fair, too. State Fairs are often not that great, but we really do it right here. The variety of tasty, unusual food…the animal showings (besides seeing them in their barns - including piglets, newly-hatched chicks, etc.)…the midway rides…and amazing people-watching opportunities. And you simply MUST try Sweet Martha’s Cookies: freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies with the most perfect texture…!
And as @mspfinney said, there is lots to do. Minnesota is called the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” for good reason, and the weather will be beautiful in August/September. I’d recommend you stay in Uptown. Check it out! ❤️💐

You can imagine what the sweat shops in China are paying for your bit of Goretex inserts - maybe 5-10 cents at most. GTX ramps up the price and only for one reason...they can.

But my best trip was years ago before 9 11 etc. and heavy security there. No bollards and I thing there were not metal detectors. East in to Independence Hall, the old Liberty Bell Pavilion. No apparent drugs or 'smoking' on the streets; and South St. was fun. Oh the convention center not built, so it had not yet destroyed, seedy as it was some of it was, that section yet.

I am SHOOK that Joel wears an extra-small jacket! He's tall and muscular, an XS is usually what a really slight, skinny, like skeketal gawky teen would wear!
If fit Joel wears an extra small, what do those rail-thin, bony shorter men wear? Super duper extra small? That doesn't exist.
    And usually in men's sizes,
Small is usually the smallest, meant for those extremely unhealthily skinny shorter guys.
And he thought that was too big?
I'm surprised those small sizes are long enough for his tall frame. That size really is meant for tiny little guys, usually just transitioning from boys sizes.
Most guys Joel's more fit and healthy size wear a medium at least.
Just shocked after working in retail clothes for many years and helping guys decide which clothes look best on them, including measuring and tailouring suits, I just can't imagine someone of his height and thin but healthy- fit build wearing literally the smallest size available for men.

Joel is actually 5'3". Lia is 4'3". They try and hide it with camera angles.

The Urban Outfitters HQ is on the Navy Yard campus. It's too bad it was too cold to go out to the suburbs. Anthropologie and Terrain are steps away from the Devon Train station. Sorry about the graffiti and the boarded windows. We had a lot of demonstrations and protests.

i wish you guys would’ve gotten to Primark while filming this! I worked at a different one in Pennnsylvania for a while and would’ve loved to see your reaction to how different it is compared to the UK ones. also there is a primark just outside of Miami!!

Love the vlog! The mask mandates are weird for me too, I got so used to wearing one anytime I went inside anywhere but yesterday I forgot it and had to go in somewhere without it. I know it’s different depending on the state and where I live in California, It’s optional if you want to wear one or not; it still felt weird though and most times I will probably still keep wearing a mask. The shopping trip sounded fun and really successful too! 👍👏☺️❤️

I'm in Missouri and it's very rare to see anyone wear a mask now. Since the cdc made the new recommendations and covid-19 has cases have been going down, even more so than a couple months ago. I wore a mask until the last couple months. It feels nice to not wear one now. Hope cases don't spike and we have to go back to them.

Great to see you both in Philly. I think you noth would enoy living there. Geographically, you are 9o mins from NYC and DC. Philly is very undrrated. Lot's a great hospitals too.

I think your experience of colder weather in Philly vs. Toronto is strictly a matter of bad timing. It's also interesting how hot Philly can get in August and early September. You'll come to know why air conditioning is so common in the U.S.

I've been watching RUclips since the start. I've seen many startups crash and burn. You guy have GOLD. Lia is fucking hilarious, and Joel is the perfect complement. 20 years ago you would have a TV show. Keep doing what your doing, maybe you will get a Netflix show, or maybe you will become RUclips famous. You guy bleed talent, and are top notch entertainment. Please keep it up, you have gold here.

When the retail clerk said jawns, I thought he was talking about the bathrooms.
P.S Did you find Primark? Unfortunately, they are only in the east coast, mostly in the new England states.
Also, through Joel and Lia, you gave New Balance free advertising both with the shoes and Joel was wearing the shirt.
