We are entering a new era. Self rescue or self reliance is becoming a necessity not an option. We all need to be more aware and prepared. The calvary isn’t coming to help in most situations. There is simply too many people and too few resources.
I grew up in Oregon, we were often without power for days, weeks after windstorms. Ice storms and freezing rain although not a frequent event do happen. 100 mph winds on the coast and coast range do happen. Been through all of these we never called on others to come save us. We took preventative precautions taking down trees that could likely fall on our houses, multiple sources of heat, and cooking, remember the power goes out and it will take time to get everyone back online. We lived in the sticks so were often the last to get power back. We were prepared to take care of ourselves you don't have to be a survivalist to be prepared and self reliant. Are these homes not insured?

@@mrmark8603 You ever hear of a generator also an above ground bulk fuel storage tank doesn't need electricity to offload fuel, it's called head pressure same thing with a semi tanker truck which can go into disaster zones and keep all the vehicles going, do you really think that in WW2 they had electricity to fuel all the vehicles

Imagine when they ban gas generators and nw natural gets completely kicked out of Oregon.... This is the absolute most obvious red flag I've ever been through showing why a fully electrified society is a pipe dream. Going to spend major coin this year to get away from reliance on the grid. Luckily had a big Yeti battery that allowed me to run a natural gas boiler for heat and hit water, gas range to cook on. The whole house could run on 600w with this setup. My family including a little 2 year old would have been SOL if we relied fully on pge without a much larger battery backup.

7 days no power. It was working yet they chose to turn it off and freeze us (13 degrees indoors) I’m pretty sure my elderly neighbors are dead.

Columbus Day storm in early 60's, big snow 1968-69, I was there too. Columbus Day was when I learned how to use a chain saw with my dad.
