This boss in Undertale was harder than I thought

After dying soundly in my first attempt, I'm coming back to try taking down Mettaton EX again!
It's my first play through of Undertale (I've been streaming the entire thing)! The last time I played, I encountered Mettaton EX in what was a super cool boss fight! Unfortunately he got the best of me, so here I am trying again.
Also, I still don't really understand the relationship with Alphys, but...
