I find this useful for many people. I personally don't like that much VSTs yet and being productive is more involved than desired. I don't think many churches can follow songs like if they were recorded. Usually, repetitions vary, even time division, you can't program preset changes beforehand. That's why I find pedalboards more practical in general. But it is great to know the advancement in VSTs for playing in real time. Thanks for sharing what fits with you and teach how to do it.
Yes this works in my context because I fix my arrangements before hand, and only go into free worship between songs (which I'll land on a generic sound for this). I recently managed to send lighting cues for pulsing and spinning lights from the same Ableton session! Of course I won't do this for church but it's cool to be able to sync everything on a laptop.
You can add a midi foot controller, that doesn’t change that setup process it probably makes it harder. I’ve seen others have divers with a pedal board into this too
Haven't used an amp for decades, just floor units. Then BIAS came along! This is my live rig: Harley Benton TE-40 TBK (with Andy Woods/Pete Thorn Thornbuckers), 1 Old iPhone, BIAS FX and the iRig 2. An alternative version I've used is Reaper with either BIAS or Neural DSP plugins. Since we don't use multitracks (everything is live and improvised! Fun!) and DAW automations fly way over my head anyway, I've used the midi commander a few times. Truth is, no one could tell I wasn't using "real" amps or FX with any of the configs mentioned.
A fellow iRig user! Cool rigs you have! I had JamUp on my old iPhone 5C, but it only really worked with higher gain tones. Which Neural DSP plugins do you have?
@@AllAboutWorshipGuitar What a rabbit hole! lol Started with Tim Henson's (not a fan of the band, but the plugin sounds so good. It's my go to.) Then Petrucci's (cuz, come on!) Then there was this 50% discount offer and got the Imperial. Hopefully I don't have to get more lol I already have BIAS and this new update looks super promising (I have yet to try it myself, but in the demos, it sounds really good!) Thanks for replying! God bless you brother!
I have Archetype Petrucci and it's so good I don't bring my Helix or HX Stomp if I need maximum portability! (Dance ministry dancers need musicians to clear the stage and I'm not going to lug a Helix on and off stage with cabling) Tim Henson's harmoniser looks interesting but all the tutorials to use it seem so complicated, and hence I've managed to stay clear of it...for now. God bless you too!
You're welcome! Those are the IR's that come with the DH Bethel Helix preset. They're probably outdated by now, as David Hislop through Tone Factor has released his custom "XR IR" series.
Hi, I'm having trouble getting Ableton to find the neural amp modeler plugin and wondering what you did to set it up? I copy pasted the VST3 file into my plugins folder and it won't find it. Every other VST I've used before has given me a .dll file which I didn't see when installing NAM. Thank you in advance.
Hi! I run a Mac so installing it was easy, no copying involved. If you’re on a PC, I would recommend running the installation into your plugin directory. I think there are more files than just the VST3 file.
I installed the Mercurial plugins but they aren't showing in the drop down menu after setting up the audio track using NAM in Ableton like yours at 6:11. What am I doing wrong? I don't have any plugins that say ".nam". The ones I installed are VST. I am confused completely.
Hi, it sounds like you need to specify on Ableton the VST path for your computer to locate them. Where did you install your Mercurial plugins? They should be in the same folder of VST's that Ableton is referencing. If they're not the same, you can set a custom folder location in Ableton under preferences. Also, the .nam extension is for NAM profiles, they're what we load into the NAM VST as the amp sound (IR's are loaded separately).
Hi, I had the same issue and I managed to sort it at least for the chorus plug-in from mecuriall. They are older VST2 plugins, so you could put them in c/program files/common files/vst2 then in ableton in preferences under vst2 plugins point it to/browse to that location. Then rescan. That worked for the chorus plugin, but not the greed smasher, which appears to be an even older plugin x86!! IIRC in protools they dropped backwards support for such plug ins, maybe the same is true of ableton ? Although isn't worship guitar running ableton 11? Anyway I'm just trying a few things, if I get it to work, I'll let you know how I did it.
Hi. Wondering what your laptop specs are. I tried running NAM on my Dell laptop (not a bad one btw) and it could not handle it. My interface is an RME Babyface Pro. I love the sound of NAM and would gladly upgrade to a better laptop if I knew what minimum specs would work, so that I could use NAM live.
@@AllAboutWorshipGuitar Thanks for responding. No, my hard drive is an SSD and probably has 75% free space. The laptop is a Dell Latitude 7280 12.5 Laptop, Intel Core i7-7600U 2.8GHz, 16G RAM, 512GB Solid State Drive. You'd think that would be adequate, but I guess I'd need something a bit more powerful.
are you simply muting the tracks? This would have a big CPU impact. I'm pretty sure there is a better way to do this using the Instrument Rack which would allow you to turn off the actually modeller instead of just muting.
In essence, yes. I could turn the modeler off too but I’d also have to turn off the effects in the chain. My thinking was more like an A/B master switch. For now my max CPU usage is 30%, so it’s ok. Coming from Helix Native where one instance takes up 30%, I’d say this is a lighter solution.
@All About Worship Guitar yeah ok. Definitely enough buffer to have a few plugs running. must be 256 buffer or something? I find the latency is too long at 128 let alone 256 plus
Yup, at 256 samples. I do make it a point to run the laptop light, so all extraneous files are cleared off the HDD and nothing else runs in the background. And it helps that the M1 chip is a huge step forward in processor tech. I can run a giant plug-in setup in Logic Pro for recording/mixing/mastering 100% in the box and it doesn't lag.
Why use MIDI to trigger changes and not simple out of the box automation? Just click on the automation icon on arrangement view and switch on / off the corresponding channel.
Hi! To be more specific, may I know if you can't get sound out of NAM, or you can't get the MIDI control to work? What's your signal path, inputs/outputs, DAW settings, buffer size?
He endorses everything including triple rectifiers 🎸 but in all seriousness the Vox thing is more to cut through the mix with clarity. It could be any amp as long as the guitarist knows how to EQ properly. Vox amps just come out of the gate with that sound pre-dialed.
Looking back, I had randomly clicked on the nearest IR in my library, and I believe it’s a David Hislop AC30 IR that came with his DH Bethel pack for Helix. I’m primarily a Helix user.
No, not for this setup. But with Genome, MIDI implementation with a proper wah/volume block is possible: ruclips.net/video/nvI1ZIEwRd8/видео.htmlsi=Oi9oPGA7QYJCe60W
Dude…This video is so “Atypical” from the sounds you’re getting to your non-rockstar look & accent…SHEESH I’d buy scented soap made from Elk fat from you!
Haha, in my wilder days I had long blonde hair, playing in Dream Theater and X Japan cover bands! I had to cut it off and dye it black when I was job hunting. The problem with conservative Singapore!
Sure, you do you, the gear market is large enough to accommodate all of us within the analog-digital spectrum. I don’t have the space or the ability to crank an amp due to where I live and with kids whose sleep will be disturbed by live music. This is where software solutions are a godsend.

how are you going in what audio interface? are you treating the DI'ed guitar ?
