Everyone needs to remember where we were 3 years ago - January 2020. A virus was detected in a senior community in Seattle, Washington. People were suddenly becoming very sick with an inability to breathe. People were dying. By March 2020, the problem had become so prevalent that it had spread around the entire world. Country after country shut down, closing their streets and borders. Across many states in the United States, schools and other public spaces were closed to try to wrap our heads around what was causing this virus to spread - was it an aerosol virus ?(wear a mask), was it a contact virus ?( hand sanitizers and anti bacterial wipes), stores and restaurants had to resort to out the door delivery or long lines with people placed 6 feet apart. I remember it all. I remember the empty shelves in any store that was still open to customers.
In the meantime, the Trump administration at the time was giving press conferences, questioning whether bleach or a bright light introduced into the body would do the job to kill the virus. They suggested a horse drug - Ivermectin as a "cure". Trump's son in law coordinated the ventilators that could be used to keep people alive (only, he didn't release the national stockpile of ventilators - why ?) . To the Trump administrations' credit, they did move forward with multi-level vaccination research. They just didn't move forward on the idea of a mass vaccination program of the public. As the pandemic raged, shelves emptied in stores, the lines in people seeking support of local food banks grew exponentially.
This whole event was a world-wide pandemic. It affected every single person on the planet, save for a few "select" wealthy people that will always be above the common man's fray. How is it that people are forgetting that because of the casualness of the Trump's administration, our country suffered in ways beyond belief ? How many people had members of their families and friends get hospitalized (and possible die) ? I recently flew next to a young man that was hospitalized for almost a week on a ventilator. His wife almost died of the Covid19 virus.
As the hospitals were being filled to capacity with people young and old, sick and dying, and stores emptied of most products. The economy took historic hits. The United States stock market / Dow Jones Industrials lost almost 23 % of its value in just 4 days (from March 12 - March 16, 2020). So what ? You might say. I don't even own any stocks and that may be true for some. But the investment community involves itself deeply in retirement / pension accounts, as well as personal accounts. How many people panicked and pulled out of investment accounts in those 4 days ? No doubt many people lost money that they will never be able to recover because the stock market fully recovered by early in 2021.
With the possible exception of members of Trump's family in key government leadership roles, many of the people that were part of the administration had the skill set to do the job. As Trump's term progressed through the 4 years from 2016-2020, most of those in leadership left the government roles and returned to sanity. If the 2024 election goes to Trump, he has already spoke about becoming a dictator. Even if there isn't a fragment of truth of that being his intention, imagine the people that he would surround himself with. Listen to the words he speaks, his vision for the United States. The United States is and has always been a nation of immigrants. Unless you are a member of the indigenous groups, your ancestors came from another country. The United States is a better country because of our diversity.
Please understand, I am not talking about unlimited immigration, nor am I talking about building walls completely surrounding our borders and locking down our ports. We have to have a consistent policy from administration to administration that allows for the control of how people are admitted.
