I bought a Auto 3.4 Mk 2 Jag in 1973 off a dealer in Rotherham for £250 ,in British racing green . Just got a new Mrs. and I bought the car to impress
her after a flurry of small family cars apart from a Triumph tr 2 which was a 1952/3 & a 1959 Rover 90 ,I bought for £50 . Run the Jag for 4 years
,going to the cars & motorcycle shows in London and holidays in it ,super comfortable and quick ,but not good on petrol for a lad in his 20s . The head gasket went and I bought a Wolseley 6110 3 litre off the local funeral directors ,so the Jag ended - up on the local dump ,keys in the ignition & hood ornement still on the bonnet - I just walked away and left it . The reg. would be worth a small fortune now ,kids eh ! .

It's only a small thing, but Drew was driving this (or might have been a mini) after finishing it, and kept banging on about how detail was everything - "The Devil's in the detail" whilst at the same time holding a steering wheel in which all the flat-head screws were higgledy piggledy and not lined up with each other. Anyone obsessed with detail simply cannot look at non-aligned screw heads. I know. Ergo - he's a fraud - it's just telly.

@@johncrosley1 Thank you John. I needed to look that one up. I like it ... and can't help but agree with your interesting diagnosis.
I recall Mr Pritchard saying; "....this is where the little guy sits" when refering to a projectionist. It was clearly intended as a 'put down' of a job that HE sees as menial and insignificant - such is his complete lack of knowledge.
The late, Great Richard Attenborough was noted for recognising the true value of the (traditional) film projectionist as the last in the chain of presenting his work on the big screen. Poor screen presentation of a film that possibly cost £ many millions can totally ruin the viewing experience.
Being cruel to anyone is not in my nature - your remark is accepted as tongue in cheek.
Just to see through the cinema projectionist's viewing ports Mr Pritchard would probably need to stand on two volumes of Funk & Wagnalls.

It isn't a MK2. After 1967, the model was cheapened and called the Jaguar 240 or 340. The clues are the ICI Ambla (vinyl) seats, horn griiles instead of foglamps, plastic top roll on the dash, thinner bumpers and a lot less wood. Same mechanics but not the same quality and finish as a MKII. Surprised the 'experts' didn't know that.

My father bought a brand new 3.4 Mk2 in 1965 EUY355C I even remember the number plate and I still have the original tool kit from it. The Mk2 , like my dads had much larger bumpers and I thought the narrow bumpers were for the 2.4 version or was it the later 240/340 as a cost saving exercise but I may be wrong. I can remember going to the garage before it was registered just to smell the cream leather and look at the metallic maroon bodywork. It had a heated rear window one of the first cars at the time. Exhausts were very expensive and the engine had to be dropped to change a clutch which meant the front suspension off. Very expensive to maintain and 18 to the gallon if you were lucky and using overdrive. Magnificent engine and I drove it on Pendine Sands and for its day it was quick once it got going. I think , but may not be correct , that this is the small engined 2.4 as it had no fog lamps but couldn't see the exhaust to be sure. Dont agree with the changes they were talking about. A close friend had the Daimler 2.5 version. More rare but I would go for the Jag every time. Sadly it was traded in for a new bright yellow Vauxhall Ventora! The Jag needed a new clutch and exhaust system and we got the princely sum of £220. if only we had left it in the garage.

Sorry to interrupt! My elderly aunt has a large collection of Motor Sports magazine dating back to 1943. They were collected and lovingly kept in very good condition by her late husband who was an engineer and a car enthusiast. She doesn't want to keep them as she's looking to downsize her home. She's giving them away for free to anyone who's willing to pick them up at her home (she lives in north London), sending them via post is not practical as they are quite heavy and she's not able to manage it. It would make her day knowing the magazines go to someone who will appreciate it as much as her late husband. She also has a classic Volvo (1960's model) she'll be looking to sell in the near future. If anyone is interested, please send me a message. Cheers!

On top wing mirrors too, so much easier to see behind than door mirrors any day, do MK 2s had overdrives as standard or where they optional like the MK1 models? at least the MK1 was Brilliant to drive in the dry in the wet even with Dunlop sp41 tyres expensive good but very short life still you'd loose the back so easy expensive spare parts not the most reliable But if i could i would still buy one tomorrow even with the very unreliable overdrive

To replace the headlining carpets and wooden furniture would be a kings ransome . The leather upholstery would be priceless to restore . and then to put non standard bits on it like louvered bonnet would be the first thing anybody would take off again. as for rechroming the bumpers .....forget it . HSE have put paid to all the rechromers in this country and the only thing to do is to have stainless ones made in Vietnam albeit at an exhorbitant cost. Stick to the antique armchairs Drew
