I found your channel because I was searching for solutions to the drainage issue in my backyard. I ended up digging a trench grading away from my house and filled it with rock. Since doing that we have had no issues so far. You would think I would be done watching these types of videos but I can't stop watching your content because it is so informative and I love how through you are on these jobs. Keep up the great work!
Nice to see a decent bloke who acknowledges errors or oversights and who goes back to a job to finish up; great lesson for all us viewers and learners and so much to learn from guys like you and Andrew - thanks from rural Aus!
Love the Andrew reference… both you and him are the top two channels I watch on here! Both incredibly hard workers who produce nothing but quality work and content!
Another great job Gate City. That was cool to see your first estimate came around and you remembered her and we're able to get her shrubs removed. I'll say it again, really like that you come back in your videos and show the project's success. I always keep a "saw bag" with a saw wrench, file, extra oil, spare spark plug and an extra chain that is already sharpened.
Awesome!!! That's makes me laugh from the inside 😂. One more tip... When you buy a new chain, it typically comes in a plastic package. I save those and when I have a sharpened chain, I keep it in that plastic package so it doesn't rub against the other stuff in the saw bag. Either dulling the chain or puncturing the mixed oil bottle.... Yep.... Both have happened.
I always appreciate your pragmatic approach to solving these problems. I'm sure you could've taken a more expensive approach than a swale to solve that problem and maybe the homeowner would've gained a little more usable area in the yard, but this seems to work and meet the need. Not everybody can afford the extra costs and it's nice to be able to solve the problems for folks regardless. Love to see the variety of solutions to similar problems and hear your thought process to which ones to use.
awesome job, catch the rain on the slope, send it to the drain, nice, when i am out now ,and its raining ,i now think of drains and the slopes, were is it all going, powerd by gravity, was up the shopping mall last week and it was raining hard,i was standing there watch the rain run down to the channel drain ,and it flow fast too,my mate ask what i was looking at,and i said ,got be full bubble there ,fast flow, nice, and half bubble over there ,to carpark ,slow flow,he was amazed ,it was all powerd by gravity, the entire shopping mall ,and fountin and water fall ,keep up the good work ,educating us all, invisable tech ,silent workers
Watching your work is really refreshing. The ethic and attitude are also what make it enjoyable viewing. Also, you respect your customers and their surroundings. You’re right up there alongside Mustie1 and Shawn James as one of my fav channels. Much respect to you all.
These videos are becoming addicting and thank god for employees like Ronald 🙌🏻. I’m ready for another job with the catch basins in them with the pumps those are awesome to see work
Just think about how much money you can make if you had the number of views that Andrew has...good for Andrew and good for you! Keep it up as we are enjoying your content as well!
YES! On Andrew Camarato! He removes the stumps just as you did -- dig out roots on sides, pull trunk out, shake or peel off root dirt, place root aside, run excavator over dirt to even it out -- Rinse and Repeat.
Another job well done Shawn. I know that customer will be glad that you solved their water problems. That stump looked like a pain in the butt. Can't wait till the next one as always.
Hi Shawn, every time thar I see a video from a contractor on you tube there is always those that will give it a thumbs down 👎, BUT not me as I really do like watching videos from people like 👍 your good self and I really do appreciate how much planning and organising that you have to do before you can even start and then when you do start it’s absolutely fantastic how you solve your customers water ingress problems and then after a few weeks or so you return to check on your work to see how efficient it’s working and that makes all the difference especially to your customer, anyway until next TaRa for a bit.
Hey Shawn, thanks to all of your videos I feel very confident in installing my own system and have bought everything I need and plan to get started this week. Thanks for the great content!
Your a lucky man to have your wife. My wife died at age 60 from an accident. None of our family saw that coming. We have 5 children and one grandchild. Everyone, count your blessings because tomorrow every things could change in an instant. Fact: more than 100 people are killed on the American highways each and every day...more than 100!!!
Nice Andrew Camarata reference. The only thing you didn't do is abuse your equipment then complain that it broke for no reason and didn't last for 50 years. And where's the "lab inspection" and the tour of your castle? Haha! Nice job as always Shawn!
You guys do top shelf work, its obvious you've got a good crew with you too, who know what you want and can just get after it without being micromanaged.
I always enjoy watching your videos, the way you talk through them is great. The music is great as well. You have a great team with you as well. Keep making more!!
Dirt dulls the teeth in the chain on the saw really fast. When working with a chainsaw I always bring 2-3 extra chains. Certain species of tree are notorious for pulling sand into the bark and the wood. A stump like that where there have been digging done around it and mud would be a tough nut to crack with any chainsaw :-) Have a look into chainsaw grinder setups if you use the saw a lot. I tried using hand files to sharpen chains for years without satisfactory results. Bought a cheap Oregon grinder and will never go back to hand filing. There are more expensive grinders out there that will probably give even better results. The nod to Andrew was nice. His videos are great - but your own productions are top notch. I discovered your channel the other day and are binging now.
Shawn I said it too lol, Andrew Camarata you're looking more comfortable operating that machine shout out to my main man on the job Ronald as always stay blessed and keep up the good work.
Thanks Anthony! That large machine is sooo twitchy but I'm getting better at running it. More videos of the larger ex coming soon. I'll tell Ronald as we are working today!
Watching you dig the stumps, I'm looking at the ground around the stumps and it looks like jello. Ronald is definitely a keeper. Then you start making the swail it's like a mud pit. I think it was letsdig18 video I watched with him digging a pond that the ground was like that soil. Had to laugh when you mentioned Andrew. Another man that takes great pride in doing quality work as you do. Love his channel as well. I like how you don't leave people hanging and your word means something. May have taken 3 times due to circumstances but you got the stump out. Well done.
Thank you! I was also quick to respond and keep the customer updated even if there were delays with the stump. It made him feel confident that I was coming back even though he had already paid me.
Since you have so many videos, perhaps a good idea is to ask your viewers click like so that they know which videos they already watched. This should also helps drive the youtube algorithm to suggest your videos to more youtube viewers.
You guys are top notch! We love watching your content! We are also located in Greensboro! Maybe we could get up sometime! I would love to take you out for lunch. Shawn, you and your guys do great work! The community you have is first class!
Too funny - I was all set to pitch you some shit about your Echo, too. Then it winds up saving you in the end over your buddy’s Stihl. I enjoyed the video, keep them up - and give Ronald a raise! 🤣🤣
Haha with a nice chain that echo is a monster. It's the 680. My buddy Shaun made sure to let me know he sharpened his chain and his stiihl is cutting well again. 👍
The great thing about getting the stumps with the excavator is NO FRIGGIN WOOD CHIPS and you keep the money for the stump grinder part of the job. BONUS
Yes! The best way to get a stump out is to use the tree as leverage. Push it over and cut the tree in three pieces. Carry those away. Everyone cuts the tree down, chops it in a million pieces, and grinds the stumps into a zillion chips.
Early on in my channel I upset someone. Most of my videos get an instant dislike shortly after I post them. Who knows?! I like the comments that it was from the stump.
I have that same echo saw. I don’t use it a ton but it has always run great for be. I have handled the Stihl and Husvanna saws and they don’t feel any different in terms of quality
How do you determine if you have enough “drop”? Was there a big enough drop that you just knew? And can you say how much you charged to remove the Holly bushes?
You need a quarter inch per foot at a minimum and we had much more than that. If you can walk it off and you feel like you're walking downhill then you're good. I think I charged 100 to pull and remove those shrubs since we were right there.
Seems like homeowner passed up an easy add of a short French drain from that un-caught down pipe (top of driveway) into the high end of the long pipe that Ronald sunk. Personally I’d not want a perpetual puddle still happening there, after spending good money for fixing the other issues. Would have added only a small percentage to the bottom line, from what I could make out.
Thats a lot of lost tree's ( yet again for another client) on this location, and cant believe nearly 3/4 of that back yard is nearly a swamp which at this point they should just bring in some stonework & do some multi layered landscaping, Also cant believe they have a culvert like that in the middle of the property
Hi Sean! Have you even seen a Japanese renovation reality show called Before & After? Maybe you can adopt their format in your future RUclips videos. Just a suggestion from a fan ;-)
with earth left exposed like that, wont it just wash away and clog that culvert and go back to the same problem originally? shouldn't that entire back area be seeded? just curious, as I have had a problem similar to my house, and installed multiple French drain systems then seeded heavy afterwards.
1. Where have you been? You haven’t posted in a week! 2. Would love a video on your consumables and how many fittings of each you store and buy at a time in those black bins with the yellow tops. 3. Is 4 inch scheduled 40 your go to? Or do you use 2 inch and 3 inch?
Hey Nick I've got a bunch of drainage videos waiting for rain footage! It's a pain to get those after shots but I think it's worth it. I also have a few non-drainage vidoes coming. Yes, we use 4" for almost everything.
Letsdig18, does bigger trees and way more entertaining then Andrew Camarata, He is OK, but needs a lot more experience.. I do applaud Andrew, for being a young man and dedicated to doing good work... I enjoyed this video very much, keep up the good work...
U can learn a lot from watching Andrew. Nice job on the stumps and props to Ronald.
Yes I have learned a lot from him. 👍👍
@@GCFD Love the channel btw!
Love the shots where you're working in the excavator and we can see Ronald doing his work in the background. Another great video 👌
I noticed that too! Taking out those stumps was a major pain and he got stuck working by himself. Not that he complained!

Oh man, I can't believe you mentioned Andrew Camarata!! That's EXACTLY what I was thinking when you popped those stumps!!
Hahah I love his videos!
IM GOING TO START MY OWN FRENCH DRAIN IN MY BACKYARD THANKS TOYOU!
👍
Love the Andrew reference… both you and him are the top two channels I watch on here! Both incredibly hard workers who produce nothing but quality work and content!
Thank you! That's quite a compliment to be mentioned alongside Andrew.
I was actually thinking of LetsDig18 myself, and admiring the fact you have a stump puller for the Excavator ...😋
Haha Ed! I now have a saw bag too. It's got new chains, wrench, bar oil, wedge.
Awesome!!!
That's makes me laugh from the inside 😂. One more tip... When you buy a new chain, it typically comes in a plastic package. I save those and when I have a sharpened chain, I keep it in that plastic package so it doesn't rub against the other stuff in the saw bag. I like how you sell long term solutions. Great job gents.
👍 Thank you!
Like your videos because you go back and show how it's working. Plus the shout out to Andrew Camarata love his videos.
Same!

Haha! Everybody watches Andrew. He's a legend! I gotta say tho, that ground those stumps were in looked like it was about to go 'quicksand' 🤣😱
For sure. It was getting pretty soggy.
These videos are becoming addicting and thank god for employees like Ronald 🙌🏻. I’m ready for another job with the catch basins in them with the pumps those are awesome to see work
Thanks for watching Matt. I should have an interesting project coming up with CBs and pumps. It's waiting on approval from the HOA.
@@GCFD can’t wait
love the stump work, so meticulous
👍
Awesome job with the drainage! Tough job with the stump! 👍
Thank you Steve! 👍
That stump really gave you the business, it almost deserved to stay. Another good job and another happy customer!
That stump was a major PAIN! I was glad to get it out.
Just think about how much money you can make if you had the number of views that Andrew has...good for Andrew and good for you! Keep it up as we are enjoying your content as well!
I liked that reference to Andrew also. He's got a great channel like yours.
Thank you! His is my favorite channel and I strive to make videos as enjoyable as Andrew's.
from the Netherlands thanks for the video Shawn
Thank you!
5:00 that ground is so saturated it's like you are shoveling pudding.

When we get some more rain there should be several drainage videos coming out. I also have a few non-drainage ones on the way.
I love all of your videos! Keep up the great work Shawn!
Thank you! More videos coming soon!
Brilliant work and a brilliant hard working team, you could see how soft the ground was where you removed the tree stumps from to 👍👌
👍
Pleased you acknowledged Ronald. It's obvious on the vids, he's a keeper. I hope he doesn't read this and put his fees up. Apologies in advance.
He appreciates the low key work environment more than anything.
Awesome video Shawn as always .. your video skills are second to none, amazing. .. you would have a career in video creation ..

Having employees and coworkers with a good attitude is very important. One person with a bad attitude can drain everyone else around them.
Agreed. Everyone who works with me wants to be there and enjoys the work. I also make sure to take very good care of them.
Hey Shawn, thanks to all of your videos I feel very confident in installing my own system and have bought everything I need and plan to get started this week. Thanks for the great content!

Andrew Camarata is the godfather of stump removal.
Yes he is!

First time hearing Andrews last name without a thick New Yawk accent.
Great video as always!
Haha and I'm from New York (State) too!
Great video Shawn
Thank you Doug!
I would say that Andrew would be proud of you stump clearing skills.
I think I'm just emulating his style. 👍
I thought of Andrew, but at least I haven't seen you install a car radio with a chain saw. 😄
Pulling those stumps. The ground looked awfully mushy.
Or mix concrete in the back of a truck
Or remove the pickup truck from the engine instead of the other way around.
I totally thought about AC while you were tearing out those stumps! Just waiting for you to sink into the mud and solve pulling that machine out :)
I didn't think about andrew camarata during the job but watching the video as I was making it, I was like, wait? What?
Nice job as always!
Thank you! 👍
Nice rake, that can now be seeded for eroision control. Nice job. Keep spare chain saws on the truck, in case one derails or burns up like that one.
👍
Stacking all those stumps, I think someone has played TETRIS a few times
Haha Ryan
I was thinking of the letsdig channel when he dredges out those ponds while you were digging those stumps.
👍 I like his channel too.
Get your self a big proper chain saw dude 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
The great thing about getting the stumps with the excavator is NO FRIGGIN WOOD CHIPS and you keep the money for the stump grinder part of the job. BONUS

Legend Has It The Thumbs Down Was From That Tree Stump.
Probably the tree stump 😂
Early on in my channel I upset someone. Most of my videos get an instant dislike shortly after I post them. Who knows?!
I like the comments that it was from the stump.
Send us your water (and Ronald)!
Love,
California
Haha that might be the best comment on my channel!
Another fine video!
Thank you! 👍👍
“This is my friend Shawn” lol
Yep! That's Shaun
try a carbide chain, more dirt resistant as long as you avoid the rocks
Agree with carbide chain..
I didn't know that was an option. Thank you!
LOL, Andrew Camarata. I can't watch anyone pulling stumps without thinking of him 😅
I have that same echo saw. I don’t use it a ton but it has always run great for be. I have handled the Stihl and Husvanna saws and they don’t feel any different in terms of quality
That 680 is a monster.
The mud just looked unreal there. Sheesh.
It seems like we either have Mud or Sun here when we are working.
Wait a minute? You lifted that cover with a finger? You moved it. Lol.
hahah
for the swale, should plants or some type of riprap be added to prevent erosion?
You know that stump seemed to be cursed in a way haha, but at least chainsaw worked 4th time :)
It was a Pita for sure.
How do you determine if you have enough “drop”? Was there a big enough drop that you just knew? And can you say how much you charged to remove the Holly bushes?

when you said drainage, I thought more like " Post10 " Andrew would have gotten that stump out the first time.
Agreed. And that's counting his machine breaking down and him fixing it to keep working.
The final results look 'swale'.
👍
Thats a lot of lost tree's ( yet again for another client) on this location, and cant believe nearly 3/4 of that back yard is nearly a swamp which at this point they should just bring in some stonework & do some multi layered landscaping, Also cant believe they have a culvert like that in the middle of the property
There is a new development at the top of the hill and that's causing problems that were never there before.
Hi Sean! Have you even seen a Japanese renovation reality show called Before & After? Maybe you can adopt their format in your future RUclips videos. Just a suggestion from a fan ;-)
I haven't seen it but will check it out.
Looks like the soil in that backyard needs gypsum and sand mixed in with the loam.
👍
with earth left exposed like that, wont it just wash away and clog that culvert and go back to the same problem originally? shouldn't that entire back area be seeded? just curious, as I have had a problem similar to my house, and installed multiple French drain systems then seeded heavy afterwards.
The homeowner was going to do something back there, with possibly letting it go back to woods.
That soil there looks like quick sand.
It felt like it too!
3rd time is always the charm.
Yes! I hate having to go back like that but sometimes that's what it takes to get it right.
so did that stump grinder dude ever show up? that guy owes you a case of beer.
He was actually there the morning we showed up. He was a scumbag for sure.

Is it normal for gutters to drain onto gardens or paths in the US? I have never seen that where I live, they all go to drains.
Yes it's normal here. At least 99% of them cause no problems.
A word of advice: don’t let the chainsaw blade touch the dirt next time.
Great tip!
Don't drop your phone in the drainage basin, Shawn!
I know!
Looks like another situation where the entire back yard (and whatever is uphill) drains to the foot of the deck.
I forgot to mention a subdevelopment went in up there and screwed up the drainage.
Yes I immediately thought of Andrew Camarata.....
👍
Letsdig18, does bigger trees and way more entertaining then Andrew Camarata, He is OK, but needs a lot more experience.. I do applaud Andrew, for being a young man and dedicated to doing good work... I enjoyed this video very much, keep up the good work...
Thanks! I like Andrew's videos as well.
What chainsaw do you use? It looks like the same old one we used to have.
It's an echo 680. It's a monster when it has a good chain!
only 3 mins in but boy does that ground look soggy
And that was after it had dried out enough to work!
I get the feeing a stump grinder might be a future purchase!
I prefer to remove the stump instead of leave a huge pile of sawdust. That one was a pain for sure!
Yep, Andrew Camarata!!
I love his videos!
More LetsDig18 than Andrew but both are great
👍
You ever drop your camera in one of those catch basins and need to go get it?
I've never dropped it in a catch basin, but I have mowed over a camera with my brush hog!
