    Having declared my dissatisfaction with this sharpener last night ruclips.net/user/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ I thought about the problem some more. It occurred to me that I might be undoing each attempt at achieving a sharp edge by the repeated attempts. So, I tried to clean up the unsatisfactory result by honing with only positions 3 and 4.Miracle!! A really nicely sharpened chef's knife, more than enough to handle my needs. Admittedly, it did not reach professionally sharpened razor-fineness, but it is now significantly sharper than it was. A bout of breaking down carrots convinced me. So, major apologies to the manufacturer, Amazon, and all happy and potential owners! Follow the directions: don't buy it if you have ceramic blades; and don't overwork your knife blade.

    I bought a new (in box) electric knife a couple of years ago, tried to use it for the first time a week or so ago. I had trouble, it seemed like it didn't want to cut unless I gave it downward pressure and made a cutting motion. What's the point of an electric knife if you still have to slice like a manual knife? I used it on a corned beef. Slices were pretty thick, I wanted to make thin slices for sandwiches. But if I tried to make thin slices it just shredded the meat, or curled away into non-uniform slices.

    • @Zelmel
      @Zelmel 3 года назад +1

      Especially if the roast is still hot/warm or more delicate like poultry, it's difficult to get very thin slices. An electric knife basically takes the downward pressure and nearly all back-and-forth motion out of the equation, so you can cut consistent thing pieces. It's pretty limited in what it's good for, but still has its uses.

  • @danawilliams334
    @danawilliams334 2 года назад

    The second knife that Julia Cullen Davidson Used sounded absolutely terrible! It sounded like it was struggling to cut through the meat, and it didn't sound consistent. It was way too loud and way too high pitched. The Black & Decker knife, however, Did not sound nearly as bad and as she used it to cut through the meat, the motor did not sound like it was going to break. If I was with her and had to use one, I would have to put my earplugs in, because I can't stand the sound of an electric knife, especially when it's loud like that with only one speed. The second electric knife also looked about as ugly as Sin.

    If you want to really test them let fishing guides use them for a year filleting fish. The blades cutting thru bones and trigger switch are what usually give out first. The switch can usually be repaired once or twice. Those bulky knives are useless for fish. I've probably used a electric knife more in a year than your testers have used in a lifetime. Black and Decker is the best I've found but I'm not going to buy the expensive ones to test. I would've liked to see the Bubba Blade also in the review. There's a lot of fish fillet knives that are more ergonomic than the ones you tested.

    • @Zelmel
      @Zelmel 3 года назад

      I mean, for filleting a fish you use a boning knife. Full-stop. I'd never use an electric knife for such a delicate thing. Either a very flexible boning knife (for... boning out the fish) or a relatively thing slicer for cutting down larger cuts into steaks/portions/slices.

    • @jamesbarron1202
      @jamesbarron1202 3 года назад

      @@Zelmel I'd bet 90% of freshwater guides use electrics. I guided myself. I can clean 3 to 4 cats a minute. Nothing delicate about it or you'd take forever cleaning 75 fish. Customers don't want to waste time while your cleaning their fish. I only use a regular fillet knife on big cats only because of blade length. If you know what your doing you'll waste no more meat than a regular knife.

    • @jamesbarron1202
      @jamesbarron1202 3 года назад

      @Bo Zo on bluegills I use a regular fillet knife. They're so small I can get all the meat better. I go regular knife on small panfish and bigger fish and use my electric knives (I have a bunch) on regular sized fish. Usually over about 10 lb cats I use the regular knife.

    • @Zelmel
      @Zelmel 3 года назад +1

      @@jamesbarron1202 I mean, that's entirely possible, but in my experience I've never seen that. Not saying you're wrong by any means, just I haven't seen it and certainly a home cook would basically never be doing that well unless they had outside experience (which at least in theory they could do with a good boning knife if they had other knife skills).
