I love these videos! Zeppelin was one of the first rock bands I ever heard growing up and this is one of my favorite albums of theirs. Talk as much as you want my friend!! It’s your channel and your video! I enjoy hearing your comments about the songs and the riffs.
As a huge Led Zeppelin fan for over 35 years and a guitar player for even longer , your explanation of the riffs is simply amazing 👏 . Jimmy's rawness and mistakes are what make it all sound real and not sterile imo 👍 SUBBED immediately👍
The algorithm finally got one right when one of your videos popped up yesterday. I subscribed after this one. I realized what I was messing up on The Immigrant Song. Thanks.
Cranking up the rock n roll excitement!! Love the breakdown of the riffs and the aha moment you see how things are done. Many thanks as always....keep posting. Hoping you stop out to say hi in Plymouth next week. Ready to rock n roll. All the best!!
I love your breakdown of guitar parts… I remember 1st hearing Immigrant song, just like 1st listening to light my fire-the doors, purple haze-Hendrix, running w/devil -VH, and round and round-Ratt. Had to have that record at that time….Memories
Great breakdown. One of the bands that started me on a 37 year guitar journey. The first time you play Zeppelin..oh so good...then you realise there's so much more to go.
You do not talk too much! I love how you break down the mojo that is Jimmy Page. Shit I only play air guitar but I was getting what you were putting down!
I was getting worried almost 8 days and no Tommy?! I enjoy these videos! Look forward to your 2025 shows with the gang 👌 also you’re almost at 5k Tommy and your videos have been getting a lot of traction, keep up the good work!
Me watching you is help me play better nothing just led Zeppelin songs just playing better. I've learned a lot from watching you I think you're a good songwriter I listen to you on your channel it's really cool stuff
Hey Tommy. Could you break down the heartbreaker solo ( studio version) and explain it? That solo flys by me too fast and I could never get it! Love to see your version. Thank you
I can't wait to see the Video showcasing the Greatest Riffs from Physical Graffiti @ Custard Pie! It’s going to be an incredible musical experience! 🎶🎸🎶
Keep a talkin’ Tommy that’s how we are able to get all these riffs. This album has more folk music which is a highlight especially Bron-Y-Aur Stomp which is my favorite song! Feel better soon!
@@TommyZamp you know I was kidding right, you should proud, p.s I am Sixty years young right now and you have really got down some of the finer points in making jimmys style work. They way you understand his feel and the fact that you aren't ever really gonna tab that stuff hopefully gets thru heads of some young players. Of course I learned it by dropping the needle a thousand times and putting my turntable on 78. Lmao. I had two copies of many albums. One for listening, one for destroying while I learned. Thx again man!
Tommy thanks really enjoy you breaking down these riffs Page was great. I was more from the EVH era that was and is my favorite. There was 2 Jimmys from that era and Page always gets the least mention its not fare he was my favorite of the 2.
Hey Tommy, awesome video, thanks. I have to work on the picking on Immigrant Song, can't the rhythm right. There aren't any shows on the schedule for Canada, come to Toronto please! Is the Rochester show on Feb 1 sold out? Ticketmaster says tickets are not currently available online.
Please keep doing it I Love led Zeppelin I love the band love I love I love the whole concept of please keep going and talk more I don't mind you talking and please keep playing keep playing you play great man and you can actually see what you're doing
Tommy, just wondering, do you have a favorite guitar between the Les Paul and the telly? I’m amazed the sound you’re getting out of the telly Led Zeppelin songs ,I know they did that Led Zeppelin one with a tally, but sounds incredible.
Honestly it’s just a matter of practice. The more ya do it the easier it gets. Try starting with just the 6th and 5th string. Then add the 4th string and so on. Make it a gradual process. Hope it helps!
@ thank you so much , I’m coming to see you guys next Thursday in Plymouth , I’m looking forward to it , I’ve been taking lessons thank you for the advice , I have trouble switching chords like c to b minor , I’ll do what you said , thank you for writing back 😊
Repeat Offender! Just wondering why you guys aren't coming to NE Tennessee this tour? We're gonna miss you guys. You guys were my son's first concert and he hasn't missed a show since... until 2025😢😢
Are you playing regular Les Paul Standards? Or the $9k 1959 Les Paul reissue? Just wondering if its worth saving up for that, or just getting a stock Gibson LP Standard?
Get the guitar that speaks to you. If that means saving up for a $9k LP then so be it. The Les Paul Standards are great guitars too. Nothing to shake a stick at. Get what inspires you. My LP is a 60th Anniversary V2 Standard. Not $9k but totally worth it.
They always say Page never used a lot of gain but the riffs sound so freakin heavy…I don’t know how he does it…I guess that’s the magic of Jimmy Page…well done👍
What telecaster is this? Also, a bit curious about cover/tribute bands why does there seem to be this obsession with getting the songs note for note perfect? The key to authenticity is getting the live feel right. Page could never play his own stuff record perfect live, most bands can't yet their live shows are fantastic, that's where the magic is.
The tele is a 2022 Ultra. I think of it more as striving to be as true to the song as possible not necessarily an obsession. Theres def a good amount of leeway because it is a live show.
cool lesson. your screen on screen is covering your fingering though. i think we could do without that if you wanted to simplify. i appreciate your sense of timing. its spot on!
About the mistakes. Jimmy was all about the energy. He had a starting point and a landing point and everything in between was all energy. Like watching someone falling down a staircase like a rockstar and than landing on their feet. Jimmy Page made a lot of mistakes and he wrote the stuff! But he always landed on his feet. One of the greatest of all time. Love your insight as you have been studying and playing this stuff more than any of us and on big stages! Thanks
Tommy, love your videos and I love Jimmy Page! Question for you: do you also listen to and try to learn Jimmy’s live licks some of which were improvised and some of which were stock, in both bootlegs and their official live releases? People like to say that Jimmy Page was a poor live player, but in his prime he was a monster and you can hear it in all those 1969-1973 bootlegs.
He had great moments in 75, and 77 despite his addiction. Even knebworth, and 1980 he was on his way back. But yes his prime was as you stated. Let's not forget the Firm.
@ I agree with you. That In My Time of Dying video from 1975 and Achilles at Knebworth are awesome. But he was so much less consistent and smooth as the decade wore on. In terms of chops, listen to him in Europe 73 and Japan 71. His soloing captured on the Osaka 1971 bootlegs was on another planet in terms of psychedelic blues rock and his tone was huge. It was like the DVD but his early chops were perfected and faster.
First off thank you for the kind words! I’m a big fan of some of the live stuff. To be honest the BBC sessions are probably my favorite. I think any player has moments that go up and down. We’re all human. I still think he is the best at what he does even if it’s a little rough around the edges at times.
@@TommyZamp fair enough! On those sessions, no one talks about the solo on that version of Immigrant Song. To my ears, it’s one of Jimmy’s best. So much tension and very melodic. You get a sense he composed that one and it’s actually very tight.
@@TommyZamp also (then I’m done for now). If you haven’t heard it, go on RUclips and listen to Osaka 9/29/1971. Page is on FIRE. Best Immigrant and Heartbreaker solos I’ve ever heard him do. What a 1-2 punch back in the day. Massive tone also.
I play probably 90% of the Zeppelin catalog, just wanted to see what YOU considered "legendary." Suggestion, if you are going to play riffs, post the TAB at the bottom of the screen. 🎸
You're not talking too much I know where you're at it's like you think there's a whole lot of business going on there but it's really simple and I've been trying to get in to Jimmy's Head and you're getting closer to it and then I am cuz Jimmy Page is the greatest guitar player of all time and songwriter I don't know where he comes up with these ribs and you said if you hit the right of money he just unbelievable
I just subscribed to your channel for two reasons one is you love Jimmy Page and two is you really love Jimmy Page . Since I was a professional guitarist at 15 in 1976 everyone said I sound like Jimmy Page . I was actually trying to sound like Jimi Hendrix . But Page is actually my second favorite guitarist in the world .
I love Since I’ve Been Loving You! I was just focusing on more guitar riff oriented songs whereas Since I’ve Been is more of a blues song with incredible solos. I’ll tackle that track one day.
