I remember climbing up to the top tower, having a panic attack and climbing back down, much to the disgust to the people I had to climb passed and over to get back down....lol
I had swimming lessons in the 60s remember evening freezing all the time and sitting on the wooden seat for swimming sports days my daughter has just turned 50 and she and class mates painted the outside wall was a school project now I am seriously old thanks again for a fantastic film
Grear video i lived in Port Pirie in the 70,s and we had a pool similar in size then but now is long gone ,it was a great place to be at ,and great memories, too many of these places are gone now ,i,m glad i grue up in the 70,s
Thank you Andrew. Yeah, I'm glad I had a childhood pre-internet and especially mobile phones. Taking off for hours at a time with your mates with no way the "oldies" could find or bother you...heaven. The gift of solitude is all but gone for young people today. Must be difficult to find out who you are for yourself with constant and instant contact 24/7. Cheers for watching mate, much appreciated 🙏🍷
Great video, brought back heaps of memories. Learned to dive there, although not very good. I remember the yellow water slide. We all used to stand up at the end and dive off until someone slipped sideways and hit the concrete edge of the diving pool. I can't remember the outcome, but they had to be rescued, resuscitated and taken to hospital. On a better note i remember a band that originated from Elizabeth high called 'Think Floyd' they were really good and played on the grass near the diving pool one night. Thanks for a great video and bringing back so many great memories.
That it was Dave. The pool and the Skating Rink were real sanctuaries for many - especially the young people of Elizabeth. Fun times. Cheers again for your support mate, it's much appreciated 🙏
Hey David - I was as good a swimmer as I was a skater...lol. Remember both well though, and always went back for more. Cheers for watching - you have seen a lot of changes in your time. I hope the channel is bringing back some fond memories for you 🙏
Please do Clara. One of the reasons I began this channel was to create a digital library for young people of the area, to experience a different version of Elizabeth, that once existed. If you haven't already, you may like to check out the 'History of Elizabeth' playlist on this channels' homepage. There are a number of narrated mini documentaries there showcasing Elizabeth's establishment and early years, as well as local history of the area before Elizabeth was built. Thank you for watching. I hope the channel helps with your history studies. Cheers, Will 🙏
Hey nice to see this waiting on my laptop. Hi mate what a great video, you know I never ever went in there but I do remember the outside of it. I really miss the mid 60s and early 70s in Elizabeth wonderful times. I do remember going to the roller skating rink and landing on my coccyx a few times it didn't half make my eyes water.😭 I wish I could Sub twice you deserve many more Subs than you currently have. 👍🏻
Thank you Geoff - much appreciated mate. I have begun a new photography business this year, which means much less videos. I will post as often as I can until I don't have to still work my day job as well as the photography, then I'll be able to return to normal posting. I expect that return will be either later this year, or early next. Thank you for your continued support - it's much appreciated 🙏

More comments... Learned to swim there in the sixties. I was the first person in Elizabeth to do something called the Safe Swimmers Certificate. Lots of time in the pool fully clothed from memory! Used the gym at the Aquadome in the nineties. Use the gym, pool and spa daily at the moment...decided I needed to be fitter after just turning 70!
Learnt to swim in that pool 55 years ago - many a great day sunbaking and watching the girls go by. Who remembers the Pool manager (Short guy, wearing white shirt and shorts and big sunnies)
Not sure if this is the guy you're referring to - Fred Jones was his name and was president of the swimming club for years. Here is an article on him and the pool from the Playford's Past Recollect website : playfordspast.recollect.net.au/nodes/view/19761?keywords=Bethbury&type=all&highlights=WyJiZXRoYnVyeSJd
Ah yes, certainly remember the outdoor pools with fondness, although I never went in the diving pool. Shame on the council for “modernising” it in 2008-09
I attempted the diving pool once. Climbed up to the top tower, had a panic attack and climbed back down again, much to the disgust to the people I had to climb passed and over to get back down. It was back to the beginners pool for me that day...lol. Thank you for watching Rhys - much appreciated 🙏
Actually some familiar faces in those early photos - including mine! My sister and I were members of the Bethbury Swimming Club and we travelled to other clubs for competitions in the early '60s. And Mum and Dad came on the bus with us. All outside pools, no heating and whatever the weather!
Brings back memories of growing up in the 80's. After a few hours of splashing around and swallowing a like a litre of pool water, we'd finish up by going to HJ's next door for a cheeseburger before heading off home. I kind of remember going rolla skating somewhere as a kid? (was there another place close by?), could very well have been here. Though I do recall there being a timezone in that place in the early nineties
Hey Pete - yes, the roller skating rink was right next door and opened one year before the pool, in 1959. It was closed down in April 1986. The two venues sat side by side from 1960 - 1986. Cheers for watching mate, much appreciated 🙏🍷
@@007JHS yes, I remember that. The original rink was special to the people in the skating clubs at that time though. I'm sure it didn't matter too much to casual skaters. It was the keen skaters and regulars who took it thew hardest.
I haven't visited since the early 90's. I remember the upstairs gym and of course the indoor pool. I don't think I went outside at all - so haven't seen the outside pool areas since before the Aquadome. Does it look much different back there?
I found that it was great untill they closed it in with a roof. Then it lost its appeal to me. I use to like swimming outside under the sun, without the typical issues you get from a beach. When the roof went on, it just seemed like a big bath in a big bathroom. Not as much fun.
I agree John. I get the benefits that came with enclosing it, but somehow it lost its "day out" feel. I think you summed it up nicely - swimming outside under the sun, without the typical issues you get from a beach. Like the difference of an open air concert versus one held in a "barn", the Entertainment Centre...lol. Thanks for watching mate, much appreciated.
Remember when as the sun was going down in summer everyone would be waiting for the announcement.. 'The temperature is still above (Can't remember the temp) and the pool will remain open until 9:00pm,' a loud cheer would go up... I remember lunch at the pool being a 9c coke and a bush biscuit.
Thank you for watching and supporting the channel. Please subscribe for more content, it's FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Cheers, Will 🙏🍷👍❤️
Thanks for another trip down memory lane Will....geez...I'm starting to feel old when I watch these :)
Haha - time stands still for no-one. And boy, does it fly 😬😀🙏 Thanks for your continued support Susan, much appreciated 🙏
Do enjoy these trips down memory lane. Enjoyed swimming lessons here . When pool was heated thought was soooo gooood !

That's cool Christine. I remember that painted mural along the outside well. Didn't know that had been a school project though.

Unreal. That tower used to be crowded. Reminded me how hot it was in Summer in Elizabeth. The pool was literally an oasis. 👍

I remember school swimming lessons in the 70's. It was still open air, and 20c in the turnstile to get in. O, and I still live in Elizabeth...
