Hey man, your videos inspired me to want to drive across the country from Connecticut to California--and I did it last month. Best experience ever. Thanks so much for what you do.
Have you ever posted how you do the video overlays? There are a lot of channels with this type of content, but these overlays are absolutely next level.
Oh hey, welcome back!! So good to see a new real time video on your channel. I just started but wanted to comment how much I missed your videos! This one will make my nights better. Thank you and hope you're doing good there!
Thank you! Yeah, this has been the busiest year for me personally, so I haven't had much time to edit video. I am getting ready to take a big vacation with my family overseas next month, and I will be posting some video of that when we come back in early January.
Glad i found your channel. I enjoy real time drives and your driving style is good too. I too will soon start travelling other states(north to south India, east to west India) and try to record them, after i explore my state Karnataka first :). waiting for more such videos. Thanks.
Nice video! A few things: 1) The portion of I-84 you drove in this video I’ve actually been on heading eastbound from the Scranton area to the Lake Carmel exit, it was part of a summer trip in 2022 where I visited colleges for consideration in upstate New York. 2) I think this is the latest you’ve ever driven! (10:07 p.m. EDT) 3) One idea I have is for your next trip is to go from Virginia to Copper Harbor, Michigan (at the tip of the Upper Peninsula). I’d love to see more of Michigan on this channel.
Thanks! I grew up in Orange County, NY, so I always enjoy driving through there when I get the chance. This is the latest that I've ever driven while recording. I only had 2 days to do this drive up to Mt. Washington and back, so I packed as much as I can on this day (because I started this day in Bennington, VT before driving up to Mt. Washington--about a 5 hour drive), and because I had driven nearly 17 hours on this day total, I ran out of memory while I was driving through Ashburn, and that's why the video ends there, as I live in Herndon. Yeah, Michigan, along with New Mexico, are two states that I've barely been to, so I'd like to do more there, as well as visit Alaska and Hawaii eventually and complete all 50 states.
I’m watching the video right now. Will be a good journey. Replying to my own comment: Really enjoyed your latest video from New England back to Virginia ☺️😎
I used the Garmin Virb Ultra 30, which records GPS information, with a 512 GB micro SD card. The Virb software displays the GPS information per my selection, and I use Final Cut Pro for all other editing. I bring my MacBook with an external hard drive to back up the video each night. I use Paint/Photoshop for all of the graphics, such as the highway signs and the map overlays.
Hey Bro!!! Been a fan of your work for quite a long time. Finally got off my lazy butt and decided to subscribe today!!! Your videos are really the most informative of all the videos of the "road trip" genre. I love all of the associated information with the trip (elevation, GPS coordinates, temp and time, etc.). I do have a question, however. Have you ever thought of doing entire Interstate trips, for example, I-10 from Jacksonville, FL to Santa Monica, CA, or a complete I-80 from NYC area to San Francisco, and so on. Many years ago, I drove the complete I-10 and I-80, from east to west, as well as the entire I-5 trip. Someday, I want to do the I-95 trip. No, I did not record these, as GoPro was not even a forethought at the time that I accomplished these - I wish I had. Though, with the way I cuss at times in traffic, even if I had those trips recorded, they would not make for good family viewing anyway! Thanks again, Bro, for the awesome vids, and PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING!!!
Hi, thanks! I have wanted to do an all interstate or all US highway trip. In fact, that was part of the inspiration of my NY-CA road trip in 2022 when I was on US-50 for more than a third of that trip. I still want to do a complete interstate/US highway trip, and will likely do one in a few months when we get back to 15 hour sunshine days again.
I want to do this too I drive across the country often what equipment doo you use? Also I have been a fan for about 4 years! Keep it up! Love the temperature layer as well
Thanks! I've been using the Garmin Virb Ultra 30 with a 512 GB micro SD card, which can hold about 16 hours' worth of 2160p video. The camera records the GPS information that's displayed, and I create the graphic overlays separately. The camera does have the ability to record the temperatures using a temperature sensor, but I can never get it to work in the car, so I just manually write down the temperatures that the car's dashboard shows, about every 15-30 minutes. I bring my MacBook with an external hard drive to back up all of the video each night, and then I do all of the editing using Final Cut Pro. I've been considering upgrading my camera, since I've had it for 5 years now, but the Go Pros have a tendency to overhead and shut off from the reviews I've read. So far that's only happened twice with the Garmin, and it worked immediately after switching the batteries, which is why I always bring extra batteries even though I keep the camera plugged into the USB port for power.
@@benjamin_barbe The camera that I used (the Garmin Virb Ultra 30) records the GPS information. The camera has a wireless temperature sensor, but it doesn't work in the car, so I write down the temperatures that the car's dash show, every 15-30 minutes or so.
@@benjamin_barbe The speed is sufficient for the recording, but the size will only hold about 4 hours' worth of UHD video. My 512 GB micro SD card (Samsung EVO class 3) can hold about 16 hours' worth of UHD video. I'd recommend buying a bigger micro SD card the long road trips. Amazon has Samsung EVO 512 GB class 3 micro SD cards for only $25, which is sufficient for both the Garmin Virb Ultra 30 and the Sony FDR-X3000 action camera that I used for this video. A class 10 may be needed if you're planning to use a higher-end UHD or even an 8K camera at some point, though. (By the way, the Sony FDR-X3000 overheats, so I don't recommend using that as your dash cam.)
@@benjamin_barbe The EVO card has worked perfectly for the two cameras that I've been using. However, if you feel more comfortable with the higher end micro SD cards, go with them. Eventually, they may be needed for 8K recording anyway.
That was a long drive. I remember the drive through Montana in the snow and was pretty late also. This drive touched eight states! It seems a lot, but there are many small states in the northeast.
Yes. This day actually started in Bennington, VT at around 5AM, so I'd driven close to 18 hours that day, the most I've ever done in one day. I also noticed that I passed through 8 states that day, a record for me for one day of driving.
I have to admit that I was a little nervous driving down, which is why I stopped to frequently to let the brakes cool some. There were no guardrails, and some of the drop offs were pretty steep.
Thanks! I was just driving back home to Herndon, VA. My camera's micro SD card ran out of memory in Ashburn, which is why the video ends there. I had been recording since 5 o'clock that morning in Bennington, VT, which can be seen in my previous video: Washington, DC to Mt. Washington.
Super fast. I remember once being passed by someone else on a motorcycle, and about 30 seconds later a police car passed me as well. I remember thinking that he should give up as the motorcycle was already out of view. LOL.
It was very chilly, especially because of the strong breezes, at the summit. By the way, I will be showing more of myself in future videos. I just got back from Africa after spending a month there, and I have a ton of video to go through. I'm already starting to edit some road trip video that I took there. I hope to have the first video uploaded by the end of the month.
I remember way back on his California to New York time-lapse, he showed a brief look at his face, but it was so quick it was hard to remember. I think it has since been edited out
Would have loved for you to start on the actual summit, but I imagine it gets a bit crowded on a day like this. Took the cog up there in July of this year. It was bitterly cold with rain and howling wind with nearly zero visibility. If you weren’t careful the wind would blow you right off the summit. It was hard to find my way back to the shelter it was so foggy. Glad you had good weather!
@@cubanmop It was windy and chilly. A lot of people were in jackets, but I was in a t-shirt and shorts, which didn't bother me as I'm usually hot, and I like to dress that way when I'm driving, unless it's very cold. There were a lot of people there, but I could've gone to actual summit even though it was only a few feet higher than where I started the video.
