    One handed backhand is a very rewarding shot, second only to an unreturnable fast serve. My one handed backhand is my most confident and consistent shot if I am early to the ball because I can get my feet set. But hitting it on the move is a totally different story!

    Es genial lo simple del tip. Los golpes de tenis son tan complejos que, muchas veces, sirve fijarse en algo puntual que incluso nunca antes lo habíamos notado. En mi caso, hoy lo pongo en práctica.

    Too many players believe that the 1 handed backhand is supposed to be done with a straight arm but in reality, the straight arm is the end product, not the whole shot. Excellent tip by Patrick

  • @leolionroarrrrrrr5509

    Straight arm seems to produce less error. With the bent arm, often times the elbow will lead, and the racket will drag behind resulting in power loss, late contact, hitting over the ball too much, jamming, etc. you want the racket to only be behind the leading arm before contact. After contact, you want the racket to be in front, and snap through the ball.
    Federer starts with bent arm, but straightens it well before contact.

    • @TheseHoesAreLoyal
      @TheseHoesAreLoyal 10 месяцев назад +1

      No one has his arm bent when making the contact with the ball unless the opponent hits a fast and powerful serve or a ripper from the baseline. It's the backswing that can be either bent or straight, whichever style suits the player (Thiem with the straight back-swing, Gasquet with the extremely bent back-swing for instance). But their arms are completely straight upon the contact with the ball. Otherwise you don't have a backhand, especially the single hander.
      Bent back-swing is easier to generate power because it creates that whip-like kinetic chain before the contact with the ball, but the timing and precision and control of the racket are crucial because it's more error-prone.
      Straight back-swing is less error-prone but cannot generate a lot of power because it lacks the whip-like kinetic chain. A player with the calibre and physical strength like Dominic Thiem is an exception though, but you can notice that his torso and the follow-through are more dynamic in order to compensate for the loss of power.
      If and only if the ball is traveling at 95 mph or faster to your single-handed backhand, even Roger or Gasquet cannot do the complete bent-backswing motion because there's not enough time - they simply take their racket back in an abridged fashion in order to have a better control of the racket.

    The point is to take it back fast bent and unwind to a straight arm. They're are all straight arm at contact. He isn't saying make contact with a bent arm.
    Also if you listen, he says when the balls are fast, bend your arm like federer to get it back faster and swing to a straight arm faster. Like a in and out
