  • Laser machining vinyl has always been a slightly controversial topic. There are some that are laser safe but you definitely want to do your research.

    I subscribed just because you suggested that everyone should do research and think for themselves. I'm not sure why, but it seems like there are a LOT of people in the crafting/maker communities that just want the secret sauce handed to them and don't want to do the things necessary to try to master the craft of their choice. Thanks for saying something about it.

      I appreciate it. I think it’s human nature to want the easy button. I highly encourage everyone to research and learn and not just rely on having things handed to them.

      If you want to be successful, you need to be willing to do the work. I’m a firm believer in you get out of it what you put in. That’s how you learn.

      @@thegiftdesigners I’m not sure what you’re asking exactly. These vinyls that I used are laser safe. The machine is fine.

      @@thegiftdesigners if you’re asking what happened to the machine I broke, essentially what chlorine gas does is it rusts any exposed metals. So any part of the machine with exposed metal (it was a helix, so a lot of it) just got super rusted and eventually the ball bearings in the i-beam rusted over and the motor couldn’t move the print head anymore. This all happened after maybe 2-3 hours of cutting hat size patches. We had to replace a lot of parts and eventually got the machine working again but we had voided our 2 year warranty early because (for Epilog) cutting PVC voids the warranty.
      10 out of 10 do not recommend!

I had my designs digitized to be able to embroider them but I want to use some of my PES designs and be able to cut them out with an SVG file on my laser.

      Yeah, I’d like to know that as well. I’ve been experimenting and testing on vinyl for heat transfers and I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m running 130 W laser and I might not be able to get my power low enough to ablate a precise graphic. I add speed and offset focal distance and lose precision. Maybe I haven’t found the right combo yet.. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @MakerExperiment

    How about the magnetic rubber for attachment to cars, refrigerators, etc?

    • @MakerExperiment
      @MakerExperiment  Год назад

      Usually those have some kind of chloride in the magnetic or film on them. I would check the MSDS and consult the laser manufacturer. Without knowing the chemical make up, I’d play it safe until you verify.

    This is really an eye opener - I really appreciate you taking the time to do the research, yet still advise us to do our own research. These are VERY thin vinyl brands - is there any safe vinyl brands - to your knowledge that are 1/6" or 1/8" thick? I am getting a laser in a couple of weeks and was planning on doing quite a few Vinyl projects using Amazon Vinyl for lasers. Thanking you in advance for your response. Diana

      The vinyl thickness varies based on the product. I didn’t measure it but easyweed vinyl was pretty thin. Glitter gets a little thicker. You can check the siser website and see what they say.
