Man... I can just listen to this song over and over, crying and smiling, remembering what it was like when I was young, before all the pain. I took my ride on Heavy Metal, it's just over that's all.
Its funny when you think about how ahead of its time this movie was. Adult cartoons are everywhere today, but that was an unheard of concept back then! Also I was (still am) a bit of a history buff and that b-17 sequence probably freaked me out more than the average kid haha...
sergeantbigmac Yea that was kind of a weird sequence, a B-17 bombing run plus flak exploding all around? I usually associate that imagery with the European theatre but in the Pacific. Trippy
jdfields711 Well bombing runs happened on both fronts. There was almost always a bombing by air before troops landed on an island in the PTO, not to mention the firebombing campaign of Tokyo that killed many more people than either of the A-bombs. But thats all beside the point because that sequence was trippy as fuck.
In fact, today's kids might know and yes, they have cell phones and PCs, today's kids can watch anything and know almost anything they want, just because it was amazing for you and our times doesn't mean it will be for you. they are amazing, this generation has much more entertainment than you guys hahaha.

Franklin Blankenship That is really cool, I am going to have to look that up because I don't really know what that is and have never heard of it, you taught me something new/ Thanks!
85 Studios it's a cool animation technique that basically drew lines over filmed footage, to make animation move realistically. ..the most recent and high profile use of it was in the movie A Scanner Darkly, which itself is an interesting film, but for other, very different reasons...

Can you hear the term "heavy metal" years before it was anointed as such? It stands alone as one of the best "one hit" songs with one of the best "cult films" (best animated) ever made! Together they provided the perfect "snap shot" of the time it embodied, and what was to come. Felder nailed one of the best soundtrack songs ever.
This song sounds like The Eagles because Don Felder was in the band, and is still a great guitarist and songwriter. The digital recording style and instruments are a musical time capsule for 1980-81. The recording techniques and guitar sounds are right out of " Life in the Fast Lane " as well as other Eagle stuff from that era. It sounds like cocaine, expensive fast cars, bright lights, "overindulging", and girls. Then throw in the cartoon movie. It's brilliant and a great tune. I was blown away in the theater when it came out and as a young musician/guitarist and was sure it was The Eagles. " Takin' a Ride " kicks your butt as the term " Heavy Metal " was becoming a part of pop culture, art, music, and journalist themes. " Heavy Metal " magazine became a movie. The " Hair Head " bands followed and still do. The song list itself reflects the year. Now the term is a genre. Long live the movie " Heavy Metal ".
I actually like the fact that they played this on south park because now this generation can listen to how music is supposed to be. I believe all shows should use more great ol' songs like this for these kids and teens to look up and listen to.
Who says this is what music is supposed to be? You go back to the generation before yours and they'd be saying the same about this music, and the same for the previous generation, and the one before that. The level of pretentious arrogance that it takes to think *your* generation is the one that solved music and made it perfect is unreal.
Bought the movie on VHS in the late 80s. Now I own it on DVD. Found it at Walmart for 6.00. I was to young to see in the theaters, I was 10 when it was released. All my older cousins would go see it all jacked up.
South Park can blow me. This movie and soundtrack were monumental, Pixar and all of its talent and technology have yet to produce a fantasy/sci-fi flick that targets aduults
went to see this in ‘83 while in college with a girl I had met on campus a week or so earlier…went home with her and had an un-fekkin’-believable night/morning….great memories!
Mine was tailgunner on the "Leap Year Lady". Flew 26 missions between 1942-43. Greatest compliment he gave Capt. Mort Fez was "He always brought us all back". No casualties for entire crew.

fucknA., you could listen to the entire inagaddadavida with no interruptions while you toked out, then call the station and request another song
Hell yeah! or have them play more Iron Butterfly!!!........ahh shit we're old:(

Walker Races at high noon?
Challenge accepted! Wait I need to change into a clean DEPENDS.....forget it I'll just go "Commando"!!!!
Saw this at a midnight movie with my bro and some friends. l remember it as a good times I will not forget.
Man... I can just listen to this song over and over, crying and smiling, remembering what it was like when I was young, before all the pain. I took my ride on Heavy Metal, it's just over that's all.
Always loved that movie and this song by itself is a transport to another realm
Don Felder in concert 2017, played this (And all other songs that evening) to perfection! Outstanding live show!
I listened to this a while back while on Ketamine. Such an awesome experience
Pretty cool. It's amazing how somebody can take the simplest rhythm and dress it up so well that it becomes so uniquely beautiful and memorable
This tunes is the GREATEST!!!!!!!!!! ever since hearin it its stuck in my head, all I hear 24 hours a day. Love it! 😊👍👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Don Felder. Often imitated! Never Duplicated!
Listen to Red Rider -Lunatic Fringe. That song does a pretty decent job too
One of the greatest metal songs ever written! Play this while drivin` in a 60ies muscle car into the sunset! There´s nothing better in the world!
Starsky try is on an HD
This is no metal song. But it's very good anyway ;-)
Perfect 10. I'm old enough to know & I'm only 37. This is what I remember as Real music 😌
Love this music !!! Class of 1983…Rules 😎 40 yrs later 😃
How many people have actually seen this movie?
Airkillmaster13 hard to find . can be found worth it.
I have an original copy of this movie when I was in Japan because you couldn't buy it in the states
On acid, when it came out in the theatre.
Such a great movie, gotten baked and watched it numerous times
Its a classic, amazing animation. Watch it!
Fantastic song. I never get tired of this tune. Don Felder in concert is worth every nickel. Really terrific band/artist/songs.
Classic tune and a classic movie!!! Soundtrack was amazing!!!!
I never knew Don Henley and Timothy B. Schmit sang on backup for this song, this could have easily been an Eagles song.
Doobie1975 It actually was supposed to be on The Long Run, but they didn't have enough time to finish it. So Don put it on his solo album.
It's ok, they brought us Dirty Laundry and Hotel California!!!
@@justinstearns9723 Would this have been the only Eagles song with a Felder lead vocal?
@@slide4180 no Visions was felder on vocals in one of these nights album 1975
@@nicemoves777 Dirty Laundry is a Don Henley solo song.
Those poor men on that B-17....
That scene left one hell of an impact on me when I was a kid!
sergeantbigmac
I know right! I watched it too when i was a kid, i figured it was only a cartoon and didn't know any better
Its funny when you think about how ahead of its time this movie was. Adult cartoons are everywhere today, but that was an unheard of concept back then! Also I was (still am) a bit of a history buff and that b-17 sequence probably freaked me out more than the average kid haha...
sergeantbigmac
Yea that was kind of a weird sequence, a B-17 bombing run plus flak exploding all around? I usually associate that imagery with the European theatre but in the Pacific. Trippy
jdfields711 Well bombing runs happened on both fronts. There was almost always a bombing by air before troops landed on an island in the PTO, not to mention the firebombing campaign of Tokyo that killed many more people than either of the A-bombs. But thats all beside the point because that sequence was trippy as fuck.
I just re watched South Park 12 Season.
Thank you Kenny showing me Heavy Metal is awesome.
As a truck driver this album has kept me sane I think
Kids today just will never understand how awesome our generations music was
In fact, today's kids might know and yes, they have cell phones and PCs, today's kids can watch anything and know almost anything they want, just because it was amazing for you and our times doesn't mean it will be for you. they are amazing, this generation has much more entertainment than you guys hahaha.
@@thunders2393 but very little taste, unless the artist has pronouns or “identifies as…”

I am a kid but I do love the music in your generation, it slaps.
@@tophatproductions8243 Thank you, you have good taste in music.
It has been awhile since I've listen to this gem but its still the best and gone out of style. THX FOR POSTING👍👍👍
Who else is still rocking out to this and remembering the animated movie in 2016!! Yes you!! Fuck yeah!! Rock with me!! Loved that drawn Corvette in free-fall in the beginning of the movie!!
85 Studios actually that vette was a rotoscoped photo of the car...the movie did a lot of rotoscoped animations...part of why it looked the way it did...
Franklin Blankenship Cool I will have to check that out as well! Thanks Again!
Hell yeah, I have it on Blu-ray!
i have seen the god damn movie 37 times and i still see new stuff every god damn time i see it but the the boeng b -17 bomber scene is just priceless, love it 👍
That's where this song plays eh?

Hi people...
I saw this movie a week after release.... One of the coolest things EVER MADE. Rock on Headbangers!!!
53 PPL are not satisfied on heavy metal...
but I am. This song is awesome to crank on any stereo, no matter where you are.
This is hands down the best song on the movie.
Hot damn forgot about this song. Damn it's freaking awesome. Screw coronavirus I am getting baked in my car all afternoon. That's what I call social distancing. 😯🥴😂🤘
I seen it when it first showed in theaters 82 i think awesome. Music no decade had better harder than the 80s
The sad moment when this song ends ❤ It’s absolutely one of my all-time favorite kick ass songs, just saying.
I was a teenager back when this came out.
I liked the Movie
Heavy Metal.
I still like this song in 2019.

I 1st saw the movie with my gf in the 80s at the drive in and it was great and then 20 years later I saw it again and wow did I miss a lot of the movie!the sound track OFF THE HOOK!
I see what you mean :)
Young man. I saw it in a theater, on the campus of NAU in Flagstaff, AZ. That was early 80's. It ranks with Ralph Bakshi's "Wizards" and "Fritz the Cat"!!!
Drive it on up and let's cruise a while
Leave your troubles far behind
You can hedge your bet on a clean Corvette
To get you there right on time
Now if you're ready to dive into overdrive
Baby, the green lights are on
It's like you're running your brain on some high octane
Every time she reaches fully blown
[Chorus]
Won't you take that ride on heavy metal?
It's the only way that you can travel down that road
Satisfied on heavy metal
Baby won't you ride, ride it until it explodes
Heavy metal
[Verse 2]
My oh my, how this lady can fly
Once she starts rollin' beneath you
You know you just can't lose, the way she moves
You wait for her to finally release you
It's not a big surprise to feel your temperature rise
You've got a touch of redline fever
'Cause there is just one cure that we know for sure
You just become a heavy metal believer
[Chorus]
Won't you take that ride on heavy metal?
It's the only way that you can travel down that road
Satisfied on heavy metal
Baby won't you ride, ride it until it explodes
Heavy metal
[Outro]

Can you hear the term "heavy metal" years before it was anointed as such? It stands alone as one of the best "one hit" songs with one of the best "cult films" (best animated) ever made! Together they provided the perfect "snap shot" of the time it embodied, and what was to come. Felder nailed one of the best soundtrack songs ever.
One of the greatest rock sounds...ever
I've seen in the movie theater in 1983, and I have Blue Ray disc too... great movie... Don Felder is a guitar genius...
This song is insanely good especially the intro
Clearly the best song in one of the coolest movies ever made. :)
I watched it for the first time yesterday, pretty awesome and amazing soundtrack
I've been singing this song in my head for 3 days.
must be 3 years now 😅
This song sounds like The Eagles because Don Felder was in the band, and is still a great guitarist and songwriter.
I know of no better highway cruisin' music......... Two thumbs WAY up
I actually like the fact that they played this on south park because now this generation can listen to how music is supposed to be. I believe all shows should use more great ol' songs like this for these kids and teens to look up and listen to.
Watching South Park now
@@roybenitez8894Same here
Who says this is what music is supposed to be? You go back to the generation before yours and they'd be saying the same about this music, and the same for the previous generation, and the one before that.
The level of pretentious arrogance that it takes to think *your* generation is the one that solved music and made it perfect is unreal.
One of the best songs on the soundtrack . The Eagles ain't The Eagles without Don Felder .
Bought the movie on VHS in the late 80s. Now I own it on DVD. Found it at Walmart for 6.00. I was to young to see in the theaters, I was 10 when it was released. All my older cousins would go see it all jacked up.
Totally forgot about this song. Thank you Southpark
yeah cheers southpark I would not have discovered it even without them
Yall should take the time to watch heavy metal. You won’t be disappointed
This is off one of the best South Park episodes ever
South Park can blow me. This movie and soundtrack were monumental, Pixar and all of its talent and technology have yet to produce a fantasy/sci-fi flick that targets aduults
Im here from south park but reading th comments makes me realise i need to watch this it sounds good still little confused about the b17 thing

I remember going to the movie theater when this came out with my buddies, tripping on some California Sunshine...
Great times!
went to see this in ‘83 while in college with a girl I had met on campus a week or so earlier…went home with her and had an un-fekkin’-believable night/morning….great memories!
Such an amazing movie. Well worth all the modern pop culture references.
My grandpa was a waist gunner on a B-17 in WW2. This song is how I picture what it was like.
Mine was tailgunner on the "Leap Year Lady". Flew 26 missions between 1942-43. Greatest compliment he gave Capt. Mort Fez was "He always brought us all back". No casualties for entire crew.
This song rocks big time!! It's sexy and driving and for me it embodies the feeling of the movie
Absolutely love this song. Thanks for the upload, dude.
One of the greatest tunes ever...
My favorite song of all time, seriously this is on the number 1 spot for me
Very underrated guitarist!!!
Everyone has to see this movie along with Pink Floyd's The Wall high asf, life changing experience
Still have this on VHS along with The Wall , big hit at our house back in the 80s on A Saturday night
