currently in the process of putting a ebay turbo kit on my 91 integra. i have never done this kind of project before and people make it look easy on here. i been at it over a month now. my main problems are with the intercooler pipe and bov, as my bov does not match the flange, and i make things difficult buy not wanting to relocate my battery so im having to cut the piping to make it wrap around the shock tower and go through the frame by the fender instead of under it. i ended up getting the same everlast tig welder as you, and although i went to school and got mig certified years ago, you'll be happy to know your welds are looking better than mine right now :) but im getting there, and getting the tools and knowledge along the way. sorry for typing so much but you help me alot, thanks man.
That’s frustrating man. I had to buy the flange for my BOV and weld it on for both my del sol and now my miatas setup to make sure I had it the right way. If you have the Tig welder you can always just modify your intercooler piping to go where you need it so it can still be clean
Main factor Is usually tune and how hard your driving the car too. Can’t expect a full eBay kit to last 3 years when your banging limiter on your street tune everyday
Man sounds really good especially between shifts. I think it’s cool you’re showing other options out there that are more budget friendly. I’m embarrassingly deep into my 97 hatch but am exploring more budget friendly options for my 08 si sedan. Can’t wait to see and hear the Miata making the same noise as del sol. Keep it up man. Always great videos.
It’s always more budget friendly to modify cheaper parts or make them yourself if your skilled enough! Or even just getting a good manifold and a cheaper turbo and a good tune.
Ive been contemplating on putting my b20b in my eg2 del sol. Good to see someone with a reliable b20 build. I have all the parts to build the bottom end, im just skeptical because of how thin the factory sleeves are. I would hate to throw a rod or crack a sleeve with forged parts. What is your opinion? Should i slap it together or wait and sleeve the block. My b16a3 is on its last leg and im worried that if i send out the b20 my b16 with shut the bed and ill be stuck with no replacement engine. What would you do?
Just depends on what your guns do with the b20, if boost then just keep the body down and get a good tune and the stock motor we’ll be fine for a long time
Iv got this turbo on my saab powered astra vxr running 1bar of boost. I'm debating uping it to 1.5 maybe even more. Not sure how much it can deliver but iv just split a crappy boost hose so until I upgrade them then it's pointless. Still it's fun as it is. I'm pretty sure they have now changed them slightly and price increased. So new one has maxpeedingrods logo cast around it and the impeller or what ever its called is now yellow. Price is up over £200.im wanting to know what the changes are as might invest in it as happy with current one.
Great video!!! thanks for the information, one question sorry for bother, I have the same turbo on a 1.3 liter car, I have kind of lag the turbo hits until 4200 rpm, it is fine but my question is. did help the tuning on the lag? and how much can you improve the spool with the tuning, just to have an idea because soon I'm going to change the tune
Turbo lag is from the size of the turbo based on your engines output. But other factors that make it spool faster or slower are your manifold, and downpipe setup. Tuning won’t make the turbo spool faster
Bro you are the man. Thanks for going over this. I have a 92 civic with a b20/vtec swap. I got the Cx racing t28 ac compatible manifold. It was $300 if you haven’t got one already. I also got a t25 from a Nissan and it gave out when I was starting to tune it. The shaft is bouncing around. Hopefully it’s just the turbo because it scared the shit out of me and I haven’t even really checked but my buddy said it was the turbo. I just ordered the same one. Gt2871, my question is which fitting do I need? I’d like to order it right now so it can arrive with the turbo, I only have this cae and I’m without a ride till it runs. Thanks man. I saw your review on Amazon too!
The turbo comes with a built in oil restrictor. I can remember the exact fitting sizes but the listing on Amazon tells you the inlet for the oil, and the water line fitting sizes
@@ChrisSadowski I just ordered the fitting based on the size on the listing just hope this fixes everything :/ took the oil inlet hose off and realized the destructor had some debris stuck in it which ruined the turbo. It was running great before the turbo gave out. It’s always something 😓 how has that turbo worked out for you? Did you have to bore out the waste gate hole? I’ve seen people having issues with boost creep on these
I’m hopefully buying my del sol this weekend! The girl said it has a type r swap, I have to check to see if it’s real and look at the rpm gauge and stuff like that. She also said “if your looking to rice out this car, go buy a civic” which made me laugh
hey chris, im new to cars and im looking to put the maxspeedingrods turbo off of amazon in my 2021 hyundai elantra , can i? do you think it would be fine or if there would be some issues?
I am not familiar with those cars, I’m guessing you will have to have everything custom made (I.E manifold, downpipe, dump, intercooler piping, bracketry, oil/water lines) and I’m not sure what those cars have at all for tuning components. So I don’t think that’s an option you can look at just of yet
hey, i asked once before and i forgot. it was about about prepping a car for paint. my honda has really bad clear coat and what grits do i use to sand down and prep it for paint? start at 320? wet sand.
Let’s see, I paid $500 for the car around 2 years ago, did engine maintenance on the Z6 to get it back up to par, so maybe 300$ in parts there, swapped trans after I cracked mine and did the clutch and flywheel too so another $300 there. Then all bushings, trailing arm bushings, camber arms, all ball joints and tie rods, then the b20v swap so I needed axles, trans, linkage and mounts, then the turbo stuff. I’ve probably put around $4-5000 into it 🤷🏼♀️
Sounds like you have cooling system issues or poor airflow. Have you replaced your radiator cap, bled the cooling system correctly, changed waterpump, bigger radiator or ducted your radiator?
@@ChrisSadowski I haven't replaced the radiator. I'm running a yonaka (www.yonaka.com/Honda_Civic_1992_to_2000_Race_Radiator_p/ymar001.htm) that is not shrouded. I have bled the engine multiple times (changed the thermostat, water pump, head gasket, drilled holes in the thermostat for increased flow). I have not ducted anything yet. It's really frustrating because if it's over 74 degrees (southern Cali) I cannot hit boost or run the ac without a 220 coolant temp spike. I see so many people running similar setups to me to include small rad and they maintain 185-205 temps. I don't get it but it makes driving my car a burden. Thanks for the reply doggie.
That is strange, I only run a half size radiator in mine. I don’t have my ac in at the moment, i have to wait till I buy my new manifold to fit the compressor back in. How big is your intercooler, is it blocking too much airflow to the radiator? Air will take the path of least resistance in your grill so make sure you have the whole area before and around your radiator sealed up to force all the air through it. I’m currently running into the same issue on my miata, intercooler on and it overheats because lack of airflow so I’m trying a smaller IC and adding some ducting and then I should be good
@@ChrisSadowski the intercooler is the small generic EMUSA one (www.siliconeintakes.com/front-mount-intercooler/heat-exchanger-p-207.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5qaGwIic6QIVFbvsCh2ikAFlEAQYBCABEgIf4vD_BwE) I should experiment with ducting. I think the AC condenser is probably blocking flow. What turbo blanket did you use? DEI is what I've been looking at but they are expensive. I might do the SPtuning VHT ceramic coat job on my log manifold and turbo hot side. Are you running hood spacers?

I'm going with the billet version of that turbo soon. How did things go? Thanks for the post!
The turbo lasted about a year and a half before I sold the car and the owner after me changed manifolds and turbos for different power

One thing that ca cause lag is exhaust leaks before the turbo. Also you can actually tune for more response with an electric boost controller.

Major lag, bad tune....
