I personally think that Michael is the Ben Franklin of this episode. A seemingly good-intentioned man in a committed relationship who got a little frisky when he was away on work. The point of the episode is that Michael realizes that he doesn’t want to be like Ben Franklin, instead emulating the stripper by taking her advice and confessing to Jan.
I would give this episode a 3/5; one extra point awarded solely for Jim's greatest save of the entire series -> when he answered, "blonde" to Dwight's question, "Brunette or redhead?" Btw, I'm really enjoying all of these field guides! Excellent content. 😌
@@quackster8295 more like he played it safe, because Karen is a brunette, and Pam leans toward redhead; so if he'd picked either of Dwight's suggestions he would have hurt either of the two. Added bonus that Angela is blonde, whom Dwight clearly favors 😊

It does make it easier to understand if you for example consider: someone who pays for the slaughter of dogs, knows what's happening on the dog farms, yet somehow does mental gymnastics or pushes the thoughts away/thinks about them quite casually, but still values dogs are beings with a right to life. It's an extremely nuanced topic. For example, you know cars pollute but you are also an environmentalist. Is that cognitive dissonance or are you doing calculation based in what provides the most utility towards your morals? No Oscar and No Toby makes this a 5 out of 5 episode !!! The worst characters that were in more than 100 episodes: Oscar, Meredith, Toby. Three characters that should have replaced them: David, Holly and Jan.

In addition to being a hilarious comedian (I've enjoyed his work on many Comedy Central shows), Andy Daly is not bad in the looks department. I always thought Pam's reaction to his seeking a date with her was odd. Obviously, she likes Jim and isn't as open to dating other men as she pretends to be, but her treating this guy like he's repulsive seems odd. He's charming, funny, handsome, he teaches history, and he can tie a cherry stem with his tongue.
I never understood why our most loved President was not featured on any of our currency? Not to Mention good ole Ben created electricity, then showed it to Nicola Tesla and Tesla used that info to make Electric Cars!
Something that didn't get mentioned in this review, but I noticed right away the first time that I saw this episode. Karen says that they had some "really good talks" and Jim mentions that they "had a long talk last night and the night before that and every night, for the last five nights". Did anyone else think that when they said "talk", they really meant "sex"? It's not just me, is it?

I didn’t know what it was but on my first watching it made me feel weird about the whole basis of the relationship: whether one or the other I’m like if that’s all it took, what about Pam? And he seems sort of reluctant about the whole thing
Totally disagree. Jim is always very tight-lipped about his sex life. Also, he is clearly not happy about how their relationship is so much work already.
I'm convinced they wanted "talk" as a euphemism for "sex" to be a running joke, but either dropped it or didn't find it funny enough. Jim's does his whole thing about "talking" to Karen for five nights in a row with that sly Jim grin on his face. I mean, honestly folks, their issue was pretty straightforward; there just couldn't be that much to talk about for five nights in a row to the point that Jim wasn't getting enough sleep. Then when season 4 starts, we see Pam's talking head go on about how she "talked" Jim through his breakup. Again, with a little shit-eating grin to go along with it. Like, these two have been in love with each other for quite some time, we really think Pam wants to talk about Karen now that she's finally gotten her hooks into this man? No, no she does not. To my knowledge, it never comes back up. I don't know if it would have worked as a joke with anyone else because it doesn't really fit the personality of any of the other characters.

Usually I rewatch Jim Pam moments. This one about REM cycles is too cringe though, I can't even watch it once.
