His majesty looks very handsome! Usually one sees only how the women are dressed, so it was most interesting to see how the king himself dresses.

He was apparently handsome when he was younger, but I think when he reached this age he stank and looked very worse for wear 😂😂

A couple of the reasons for all the layers was that they were a direct statement to one's wealth and quality of wife (one of the queen's duties was to embroider her husband's shirts), but also the stately homes back then were very cold and so warming the body with multiple layers was quite essential.

This video came up as the first suggestion when I searched for a pastry I remember from childhood in England called King Henry's shoebuckles. I'll still go and look for a video about that but had to comment to say how awesome you look. Such attention to detail!

This video was well presented and indeed I have enjoyed it.
Loved this video - but one thing was neglected! Women have an inordinate interest in 'under dressings', if I may be so delicate. What was not shown (and I certainly appreciate that!) but was also not discussed (which is what I am now asking) is how, exactly, a cod piece is ... ummm ... "attached". Does it have ties, like an apron, that go around the waist? Is it, perhaps, belted on to the thighs? Is it possible that there's a long neck chain that terminates at the ... ummm ... thing in which the Kings 'jewels' reside. The second part of this very sensitive subject is (ahem) whether or not that area that produces kings and queens of the future are included, somehow, in the cod piece? One cannot help but wonder how the whole ... ummm ... protection/covering purpose is accommodated when the King sits upon his horse?

What a wonderful video. I was delighted to learn a bit about the construction of the king's garments. They must have been quite heavy and difficult to put on. On the other hand, they are quite amazing as reconstructions. They appear to be very well designed and fabricated so I assume they are far from inexpensive although perhaps not quite as expensive as Henry's. The reenactor is fantastic too.

Perhaps, if modern fabrics - such as Nylon, Latex and Lycra were invented... wet/dry clothing would of made 'outdoor traveling' much more tolerable. Explaining how modern culture has changed - is challenging.

my noble prince, as i am only a humble poor citizen of the very small principality of austria, far from being noble myself and without any possessions in this world, i wear nothing in front of me in which i would carry around my non-existing wealth and my clothes have no embellishments at all. day in, day out i wear the same two pairs of jeans, t shirts of three colours and sometimes, if the weather is dry, even shoes.

Did 16th century boys and men have to tie tights to the inner part of a trunk hose or doublets with straps up to their thighs? Or did you tie the tights to your thighs? I am not from Western culture, so I am very curious about this.
