“Why don’t you just make the futon into a workbench? That’s what you’re using it for anyway.” My wife said it exactly the same way but here wording was different. She said, “Get all your crap off the futon.”
Your (now nearly former) 95 SQFT Apartment Workshop is epic. It has become legendary already when you made your first RUclips video. It'll always stays in our minds. Thanks for sharing and good luck building up your new workshop.
Much respect! My shop is a bit bigger (1950s excuse for a 1 car garage), but I have a very similar efficiency philosophy which allows me to pack in a LOT more stuff than most people can in a small space. I look forward to seeing what you do with the new space, and more importantly, what you do to outfit your new home. Congratulations!
Very well done. You are a genius when it comes to packing 10 lbs. of ??? into a 5 lb. bag. So to speak. Good luck with your new home. I look forward to seeing what you come up with in your garage space. My shop is 9 x 13 so I'm very interested in what you do. Thanks for all your work.
Can't wait to see what you do with your new shop, you are already very organized and calculated. I bet it will be a world of difference! Congrats and keep up the awesome work
Amazing use of space. Hats off to you. My shop is just a tad larger at 120 sq feet..in addition to the machinery, it also stores large pieces of wood and gobs of misc stuff (which are put up on wall / ceiling storage shelves...( I have 9 foot walls that I brought down to 6.5 feet). I am more than crammed full right now with no workable room at the moment. My shop needs a complete full renovation from purging old stuff, inventory review, and a new layout redesign for working. Looking for ideas. You gave me some. Thanks for sharing.
May not have explained it correctly. My shop is outside, and I built the walls 9 feet high, the highest the city would allow me. The wall height is still 9 feet in the center of the shop and I have wood storage rake right in the middle hanging from the rafters. I installed shelving on 3 of the walls, and in those area, under the shelving the height is about 6.5 feet. But, it gives me a lot of storage area to store Holiday Stuff, Old School records, excess plumbing and electrical supplies, etc.
You truly exemplify the saying “less is more” ! I’ve also decided to have you organize my life! Congrats on the new house, you just bought more video content as well. You may be making these vids at an alarming rate, but I bet you’ll love every minute of it! Luck to you, and remember, it’s not just a house, it’s your...hobby, passion, heartache, love, money pit, shelter, classroom, nemesis, best and worst friend you’ll ever have, and the greatest thing you’ll ever own. Have fun, welcome to the mania.
Brilliant use of space and well organised, just found you and subscribed. By now you are in your new house I expect, so I'll look through the rest of your videos.
Temporarily being back in an apartment after having had a garage and basemant to work with, it was cool to see how you made this work. Half my living room and all of my storage space is filled with tools and peripheral whatnots, but no place to work. Unfortunately the walls are thin, my neighbors abound, and a son occupies the second bedroom. Having said you're moving into a house (congrats) and are setting up the shop in half the garage space, I was thinking - about that other half...
Congratulations, Justin! I'm sure you'll be very happy in your new shop and that you will make good use of it! P.S: "Cars live outside." -- Brian Grella (Garage Woodworks) ;) (makes for a bigger shop) just joking around... :)
Justin Depew, good luck with the move too, enjoy being a home owner, it's a very satisfying thing knowing your money is going into something that you own instead of someone else's pocket!
@@tae912 He addressed it. I remember watching his videos during COVID and he specifically addressed this. From what I remember in the other video (I'm sure you can look it up), he says: He keeps his wood shop in the middle room of his apartment. So it doesn't share walls with the outside to his neighbors. I remember there wer a couple other things but again... I watched it as a random video 2 years ago.
how can one manage the dust is what i want to know, im thinking about making my spear room into a small wood workshop but the dust question is whats holding me back, i live with kids and dont want to ruin their lungs or mine ;P
@@mrranto5789 i actually just do stuff in my apartment living room. Its not the most convenient but I essentially built a large fume hood over my desk out of polycarbonate with room for my arms to work under. Then there’s fabric over the opening to help the negative pressure system. Then the fume hood is hooked up to a vacuum. It actually works super well but Im sure my neighbors hate me cause of just the inherent noise. But no ones complained yet
Do you share any walls with neighbors? How did you keep the noise from bothering the neighbors? This is the primary reason I have not move in 40 years (fear of apartment noise restrictions).
Very nice! I have a single car garage workshop and I find it tiny... Also on your drill press bed there seems to be a point on a bearing do you use it as a lathe? Is there a video on that? If yes what do you use for tool rest? Thanks a good luck on your moving! Can't wait to see your new space! Benoit
Thanks Benoit! That is exactly what you think it is. I experimented with it once to make a small handle. For a tool rest I just clamped a piece of wood to the table. It didn't work the best. I may come back to this idea sometime in the future.
Where do ya even find a good store to buy hobbyist tools? I feel like the big box home centers are geared toward contractors. I wanna find smaller drill presses and Sanders
So I have a question. What did you do about the noise from the saws being in an apartment? Cause my parents live in a mobile home and I'm going to use their spare room as a work shop and I am worried about the noise.
Been watching your vids about the apartment shop for some time, although not subscribed, sorry, I'm happy for you to finally get a bigger place, (I myself am in the same situation, however with a fair bit less tools... aaand it's in my bedroom) Maybe you should try to remove one car from the garage to free up space (like steeve Ramsey did)
How’d you manage the noise/vibrations? I’ve been looking for options to start off as a hobby but feel there would be a lot of complaints from neighbors. No getting around how loud it is, did you have complaints?
@@JustinDepew The one for the circular saw - I saw one of your videos using it - it seems to be a reliable design. If you could do a video of how you made it .would be great. I want to make one too.

Looking forward to seeing your new shop develop! Best of luck!
Well done very organised, the only change id make is get rid of the bench saw and buy a track saw
Great use of space, inventiveness, work space organisation and cleanliness standards. Nice job!
Hi Justin, congrats for the new house. Still waiting for the new shop and your first project there. Best wishes from Germany

My biggest challenge in an apartment shop wasn't the space (or the dust) but rather the noise. How did you manage that?
