Greetings! I am delighted that you're promoting knotted locs as an alternative. Since discovering your videos in the last year or so, I became increasingly uncomfortable with my five-week retightening interval. Discussions with my loctician to extend the time between retightenings were not well received. After some debate, she agreed to six weeks but would not consider anything longer. November was my last retightening; I have an appointment with Melissa tomorrow morning to learn knotted locs. Thank you, Tunisia, for inspiring me to take control and trust my instincts. Fortunately, I am making the transition before experiencing major hair loss, but I am convinced that it was inevitable had I continued with retightenings that were too frequent, not done very gently, and unnecessarily focused on maintaining a grid. Love your honesty about this topic. It's so important to speak up about the health of your hair!! I find it so disheartening when locticians push clients to frequent retightenings to keep money in their pockets.
I've seen stylists even attempt to penalize clients for extending past 6 weeks. Is extra turn or two really THAT serious if it keeps hair on our heads?
8 weeks between retis isn't catastrophic, and spacing out my retis slowed down the hair loss.
If your stylist doesn't want to listen, don't keep patronizing them! It's YOUR hair!! How bout no weeks between retis?? Just saying...

Since you give your spiritual definition of retightening; what is your spiritual definition of knotted?
Hmmmm....the first thought to comes to mind is that knots are used to give strength to something-- to secure a thing or to improve the integrity of something that has been broken or torn so that it can still work. I suppose there are countless others, but these are a few that come to mind.
I've been following you for years with your sisterlocks, I always loved and admired your sisterlocks, and you didn't seem to have any hairloss, correct if I'm wrong. But to be honest in terms of looks, I don't see where knotted locks looks any better as you are saying, it may feel healthier in terms of foundation based on your descriptions, but not seeing much of a difference. As a matter of fact, some of the knotted locks I'm seeing does not reallly impress me....that being said, for a more firm locks and versatile option (for instance, taking a swim and not worry about my hair) I would consider knotted locks,but still considering that its still in research stages hence some of the responses I see from Melissa regarding how the outcome would be for each person, and reason to consider it. I don't like the sisterlocks bashing approach however that I am seeing from other channels, not saying you Tunisha, but I've seen where the sisterlocks bashing is prevalent in the knotted locks growing community, I'm wondering why is that, there are other styles out there outside of sisterlocks so why that focus? sorry for the long message

Greetings! Not a problem at all. I appreciate your share. I try as much as possible to present a balanced approach and I will continue to strive to do so. I've uploaded so many videos over the years and hair loss and thinning have been a concern for years now. Yes, I do strongly associate this issue with the rituals required as a part of this style and how individual locticians may implement these practices. I hadn't heard of or knew of a more long term alternative before knotted locs. I did , for many reasons, transition. The ladies that I have interviewed so far, don't seem to have bashed Sisterlocks. Of course I havent spoken to all. I've made it clear that I appreciate the contribution of Dr. Cornwell and I will always.
I do however feel that the time for Sisterkocks is running out however-- for those seeking longevity and ease with small locs. Inevitable hair loss will occur in most cases over time, with the early signs being imperceptible. For those that are lucky, it will happen slowly and be almost imperceptible-- until it is not. Based on what I've seen and what makes sense to me, knotted locs was an easy choice. I realize it is different than Sisterlocks in every way and I am comfortable with that. I will continue to say, it's a mindset. I did it for the health of my locks long term and a greater return on my investment in my hair. I also did it due to the concerns that I was seeing and experiencing from ladies here on the channel too and those that I had spoken with personally. I also feel there is a disgruntled population who feels unheard in the Sisterlocks community and many who are suffering in silence. This persists as does the secrecy (around this style, the grid, the tool, etc.) for many years, long before the increasing concerns regarding hair loss.
The marketing of a brand requires a level of vigilance and oversight to maintain a customer-centered focus. It comes with the territory, albeit not easy. The experiences with hair loss are very real and catastrophic for these women. Because the locticians fall under the brand and are certified as such, these things should be acknowledged at the very least and training modifications and inclusion made for topics centered around how to meet these challenges. It is a difficult topic which has remained in the dark for too long. I think what we are seeing is more dialog around this topic during a time when there was no voice at all. I can't say I keep up too much with social media, but I've seen ladies here leave respectable commentary about how happy they are that they have transitioned. I haven't seen anything rude yet, but I cant see every comment. As far as my own commentary, I think it's important for listeners to gain insight into the multiple positions I take with regard to Sisterlocks and KnottedLocs, Microlocks and any other kind of loc and make the choice that is best for them. Of all of them, none of them is not for everyone. The idea is to get in where one fits in best. I hope that I have answered your commentary. Thank you for sharing.
