Friedberg is definitely the sharpest dude in this crew, im glad to he gets to do his thing without getting constantly interrupted and cut off by his cohosts.
only thing is that it can still lean a little towards commercial interest over consumer and friedberg bears that role of asking and informing the consumer he said they don’t know why people gain weight and that diet and exercise not enough this is not true diet is 90% and if it fails certainly these meds could help
I will push back a bit… no disrespect to friedberg… he is a bit naive…. This is all a band aid on the root problems… addiction , food that is nutrient deficient needs to be addressed!!!! Adding chemicals just creates a life king consumer… isn’t that what got us in this entire mess?
This was the best episode in a long time of the pod. No political bs. But pure knowledge being passed on. We need more of this (and it does not have to be science) back on the pod!
I personally find it so annoying that these companies pretend to not understand the underlying issues. We have a sick, sick food system. To keep things cheap and affordable the quality is horrific
@@cyberpawpretty sure ozempic was proof it’s not the freaking seed oils or micronutrients. It’s Americans stuffing their gob with more calories than they use.
the incentive for this company and every other big pharma is always to treat not cure. Of course he has food execs on his board, they need to negotiate how to strike a “balance” between regulating hunger and making food sales
Love these one-on-one interviews where the host is matched to the guest. Friedberg is in his element here! And Dave Ricks is so impressive, both as a businessman and as a man of science.
There's a metric I like called "The Friedberg Ratio" which is the number of words Friedberg speaks / the total number of words spoken in an episode. The higher this ratio the better the episode. This episode had a high ratio
Thank you for a great talk about the global issue of obesity. As a practicing physician and patient I have pivoted from Plastic Surgery ...liposuction to treating these patients with GLP1, GIP, and GLP3s. I have lost 65lbs and on a maintenance dose of about 75% of the targeted dose. Looking forward to seeing chronic benefits on AD and age related mental decline. Diebetes type III. Great summit this year ...3 of us really enjoyed it!
How about only eating food that is real and not over processed bullshit, I know it’s addicting and I’m struggling with it but the idea we don’t know why it’s happening is insane! Sugar is a hell of a drug!
These interviews might get less views than the main episodes, but are my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. keep doing these. It makes me like the show more and like the brand more. I am a science corner junky and need more like this
I have lost 55lbs over the last 6 months due to diet control and 3x more exercise in 2024 than what I did in 2023. Im literally eating 40% of what I ate in Q1 2024 and Im sleeping much better, thinking much better and feeling great overall. After looking at this episode, Im so blessed to be on this weightloss journey! My profile photo is from Q1 2024, Im much better looking now! Thanks David and Dave for this conversation. Lovely Tuesday science corner with no one interrupting.
Friedberg really shone here, and I’m glad to see him push back on some of the deeper issues. It's striking how this discussion about drugs like GLP-1 conveniently sidesteps the root cause of the obesity crisis-poor food choices and the broken food system. Instead of addressing these foundational issues, we’re watching the cost of insulin shift to a new, expensive drug. This feels like another case of profiting from a health epidemic while the underlying problem remains unaddressed. Props to Friedberg for getting to the core of this.
I absolutely love and adore every member of the All-In podcast - everyone brings their own unique dynamic to the table and that is so important. This podcast solely with Dave x Dave was something I REALLY needed. Casey & Calley means are doing great work and others that are coming to the surface in effectively addressing the global chronic health epidemic i their own way - however, the format of this podcast was clear, really comprehensively addressed for us that appreciate the "nerd out" and have a thorough interest in this area, was absolutely delicious. Practically nutritious! Thank you ♥
I love love love this episode. i know the elections are around the corner which is why its been so bad lately, but this is what we need more of, all the time.
can we see a disclaimer of how much you have invested in their stock, all of you? Can you also talk about why obesity is caused and not just the Band-Aid of a drug and the actual moral corruptive nature of the system we live in that everyone is getting rich off of. Imagine fixing that instead.
@@Michael-wr7gi Thats currently, I am talking if they potentially bought in earlier. Given how much they talked about it throughout the pod it is definitely probable.
Obesity is caused by consuming more calories than you use. The drugs make you less hungry and so you consume less calories. Models have known this for years. It’s why alot of high fashion models are smokers and coffee drinkers. They’re cheap Appetite suppressants. Want to know why drinking loads of water and eating loads of vegetables helps you lose weight? Because water and vegetables have little to no calories. Eat a large bowl of straight cucumbers 2-3 times a day along with about a gallon of water. Suddenly weight magically comes off and you’re not as hungry cause there’s not enough space.
Thank you so much for an incredible interview Friedberg. Please do more of these. I am exhausted with the over-politicization of the main podcast. It isn't intellectually stimulating.
Friedberg, I'd like to see you do a Science Corner at least once per month. As a chemist and the owner of my own laboratory, these conversations are refreshing and motivating. I plan to conduct clinical trials next year alongside some of the topics Ricks discussed. These industries are ripe for innovation and AI and Machine learning will cut down the R & D process by at least 50% over the next decade. Exciting stuff!
A beautifully conventional exposition that I could have found elsewhere. You asked the right question later about the Yamanaka factors along with a few other questions such that he had no time to focus on longevity with any specificity. If Aubrey de Grey is correct that a shift to longevity research is dependent on educating the public to demand it, in the future please consider starting the interview with it so as to direct the public's attention appropriately. After all, you solve for aging, you've solved for many late onset adult autoimmune diseases simultaneously, so to speak. I know you know that, thanks.
So excited for science corner! One thing, as a type 1 diabetic since 10 yrs old, never been overweight, I am selfishly annoyed that everyone talks about type 2, not enough discussion, research for type 1. Thank you for covering it for more than other talks though.
Yea Friedberg is the most functional interviewer. Let’s talk about what has real value and meaning and stop with the nonsense. He can sit there and go toe to toe with a CEO like that. He’s a beast.
I agree that this is far from optimal but 2023 was the first time in over 40 years that obesity fell, by 1.6% in the US. No health trends or dietary fats had any effect, not even temporarily. The other way, which probably should happen anyway, would be more restrictions on advertising, especially for children's sweets. Sugar taxes and other food regulations. France is doing this with some success.
This is actually great content - far better than the other 3 dudes stroking eachother's ego and sharing special interests. Thanks for the informative content.
I am on 2 Eli Lilly drugs. Taltz for autoimmune psoriasis and arthritis derived from psoriasis. I've had since 10 years old. I have never had a biological work so well. Now, going through menopause hell. Started Zepbound 4 months ago, and I've lost 50 lbs and feel so much better. Very little GI affects, thankfully.
fantastic interview and glad to hear directly from the "horse's" mouth. This will be the first $1T+ pharma in the world. About time it wasn't another tech company
Not really any good players in this market. The products are risky and expensive to produce, so you won’t make it if you don’t engage in unethical behavior to sell the few drugs that make it out of research phase.
