Well done breaking some ScotRail rules 🤣 if they’d clean the windows, you wouldn’t have to do it. If there’s ONE train to have clean windows on ScotRail, it’s THIS one. In fact why not buy some cool panoramic carriages for such a stunning route? Fantastic video though Scott! I’m actually heading up to Mallaig in the morning to try get to the Small Isles.
They used to have an Observation Carriage on the Inverness to Kyle line for this very purpose. I don't know what happened to it. It was excellent for photo shoot or just enjoying the majestic views
That was a wonderful vid. Dirty windows and all. Scotland is a magnificent looking country and you are showing us all how beautiful it is. Thanks so much!🇨🇦
Doing the Caledonian Sleeper in summer so that you can have breakfast going along the shores of Loch Lomond, following up with Fort William to Mallaig, must be one of the great train journeys of the world - maybe it's not as breathtakingly big as the Trans-Canada, but it's totally stunning in its variety. Always nice to consult the weather man and get a good day, of course.
I did that journey a couple of years ago on the Jacobite Express steam train. Then the coach took us to the base of the Glenfinnan viaduct to watch it return from Mallaig. Thanks for filming this video.
Another great wee video 👍 , could you imagine making the old black and white movies on the Scotrail network , where the baddie ties the young woman to the rails , only for him to see the rail replacement bus always go past .
I haven't been on the Mallaig Extension since the late 1980s either, so this was a great reminder of the days when I'd stay overnight with friends in Hyndland so as to be able to catch the 6/6.30am train out of Queen Street to Mallaig.
Hi Scott 😊 I have happy memories of doing that train journey in reverse, from Mallaig to Fort William, away back in January 1989, when I was a young man, on my first ever visit to Scotland. That was after having taken a ferry back to the Scottish mainland, from Armadale on the Isle of Skye 😊
Weather can screw stuff up. Back in '91 I took the ferry over to Skye (now a bridge), stayed a night in Portree, and hoped to go down to the south end of Skye to take a ferry to Mallaig. It was October, and the winds didn't let the ferry to cross to Mallaig. Had to go back to Kyle and take a bus down to Fort William. Then the little speeder train to Glasgow broke down. Lots of fun, and I missed everything.
I spent a whole day last September going from Glasgow-Mallaig and back while studying for the semester in Scotland. Beautiful and a nice break from hiking.
Having done it several times I think the Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness line is the most beautiful but we’re going on the Jacobite next month so I’ll find out!
Hi We watch Steve Marsh too -he suggested you 😊Only problem is your choice of musc .. talk to Steve about it -Sofer less intrusive please-rather here the train sounds . Liked seeing your son too so keep it up love Scotland 👍🏼
A great trip , than you for sharing . Unfortunate that the windows ( & carriages ) weren't clean , on the exterior . It's a trip I wouldn't object to , espeacily were the stem engine were to be hauling it .
I have been on this one and reckon it is the most scenic and also goes to the highest point in the UK. The one from Kyle of Lochaish to Inverness is worth doing as well. But Michael Palin reckons that Castlerock to Derry in Northern Ireland is the most spectacular train line in the world - I would not agree with him on that.
Britain is the only Country in the World i know of where you buy an expensive train ticket only to be put on a bus when maintenence is taking place and where you can get a local bus to take you there at a fraction of the cost but, they won`t tell you that when you buy your overpriced ticket.
The Class 73 is along way from its former home on the Southern Region! Now fitted with a 1600hp MTU engine making it a Type 3 locomotive. I could imagine Donald and Douglas (from the Railway Series) working the Jacobite train in multiple:-)
A beautiful day out. Have held tickets for the Jacobite since 2020, sadly lockdown prevented travel. Same again with 2021 plus my health wasn't great so they renewed them again until 2022. Problems now with fuel rationing reported to be limiting us to 15 litres a week from April, the cost of the stuff if you can get it and the P&O debacle filling up all the Stena line ships, getting to top of Everest would be less fraught than travelling from NI to Fort William at minute! 😭 🤞🤞🤞here's hoping 🤞🤞🤞
@@Sierraomega1991 yes, spotted that on TV, hope to give it a try out, seems much shorter journey than the Scottish Citylink/Ulsterbus service. Have to confirm, but I think they pick up from our local park and ride.👍
Great video as always. But I have a question for what does the “S” stand for on the locomotive that was moving the sleeping cars at For William. I hope to be in Mallaig for this summer solstice.

I would prefer the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh @SteveMarsh

The last time i travelled on this route Scott was when the loco was steam, way back in the 60`s.
Always Love your Adventures thank you so much for taking us with you Scott ❤❤

nice to see a video from you they haven't poped up on my feed lately hope you are well
Inverness to Thurso is pretty spectacular too, especially seeing the deer.

We want to do this trip.
Which station is best to leave our motorhome at ?

I have been to Fort William and Ben Nevis. Lovely place and the mountains are so breathtaking.
My sister and myself went on this journey last June we were lucky to see the famous Jacobite at Fort William
Good to see an old Gatwick Express on the first leg of the sleeper.

Beautiful scenery, this is on my bucket list to travel on this train up to Mallaig

Really enjoyed. Train journeys are really relaxing!
Great vlog Scott thanks for the lovely views.
I went to Outward Bound when I was in high school... what an adventure it was!👌🙌
Good video with information on West coast line enroute to mallaig.🏴
I’m looking forward to travelling on this route in a months time
Even with dirty windows it was stunning.
Thank you for your videos they give me hope that one day I will be able to travel ❤️

Many thanks great video
Are there currently any vacancies for window cleaners on Scotrail, because by heck they need them!!
Love these videos!
Excellent 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Absolutely cannot replace a train ride with a bus ride.
It's not about the destination,it's about the journey
Hi Scott can you ScotRail from Glasgow central to Edinburgh Waverley
Hey Scott, maybe you could bring a bottle of WindoLene and a Microfibre cloth and you’re good to go with the filming…ScotRail will love you!!!
how about the jurassic coast in devon, very nice train journey through Devon to Cornwall.
Just subscribed .great videos 👍
Great video
It's a spectacular trip, just a shame they've fitted those awful seats to the trains ☹️

Will renationalisation mean clean windows, I wonder...

I think thats the Caledonian Sleeper Logo on their engine
Goes to Mallaig, doesn’t get on the ferry to Skye 😭
Good vid, but might have been better later in the year when things are a bit greener, Shame about the windows.
Touch camera on window to film Then dirt y window not dirty anymore in photos
Sorry but the dreadful music ruined the video, just keep the natural sound...
How can you make a video of the most scenic train journey in Britain and it's only 8 minutes long?👎it didn't do it justice mate
Took the same trip 2-weeks ago, scenic is the correct word, not jaw dropping scenery by any means.
Yawn
Seen better. views what views don't make me laugh
