That "gut feeling" thing is so important, we have probably all done things we had a "gut feeling" about and ended up regretting it, one of my most expensive lessons was learnt while useing a half inch Dewalt router upside down in a table with a cheap 3/16 cutter, and as I was proceeding through the probably too deep cut , the very instant I had that "gut feeling" and before I could back out the cutter broke, and being uside down it fell into the router and removed some of the cooling fan blades which puts things seriously out of balance. following the repair of the router I made a shield to protect the router from any falling debris while still allowing the air to pass through it. I hope this might help someone avoid the same mistake.
If you’re forcing a cutter enough to either break it, or bend the shank….. you are indeed cutting too deep.
This is the cause of burning (too deep a cut leads to too slow a feed rate, causing too much heat which causes the burning)…

Sound advice. I am a very experienced router user, but always prepared to learn something new or try to spot my own bad habits, so will be watching this series(?).

Yeah of course… you can use almost any router for a router table.

Yeah, my workshop is pretty chilly currently too..... no heating at all, if it weren’t for the fact it’s south facing, it would be unusable!

Honestly it totally isn’t! Just take it but by bit and and consider each bit plus one as you go along.

I'm reasonably sure you know what you are talking about but a bit of validation would be reassuring. When I did a short course on teaching we are told to start with I am certified or qualified to do this lesson because of.... and state the qualifications.
Yeah, you’re probably right…. I removed from school every lesson started with exactly that….
Personally I’m of the opinion that standing there telling people I have a bunch of reasons why people should listen to me is simply pretentious……
Listen or don’t, it makes me no less safer in my work…
That said there are a bunch of covid woodworkers on RUclips now offering both wrong or poorly presented info because they don’t know what they’re talking about or don’t actually understand the things they’re saying just repeating what other videos say……so you might be into something.
