Melbourne, Australia was and still is a beautiful city. This film is a national treasure. Thanks for preserving it and sharing it.😎✌️
Thanks for letting us know you enjoyed it.
@@NFSAFilmsfantastic video thanks 🙏
It was such a beautiful city. It's absolutely criminal how much of this stunning architecture met the wrecking ball in the post-war era.
So sad that the first comment has to be the same, old hackneyed crap about how everything was better in the good, old days. Sad.
Which buildings in this video have since been demolished?
You are absolutely correct. Sally the Mayor might wonder why nobody wants to come into the city, but the elephant is in the room. It is appalling to witness this city’s decay towards a mediocre and inhospitable wind tunnel full of bulky, dark grey cubes. Thanks to all the planners that have sold Melbourne out to developers.
You people bring delight , by your painstaking work , thank you , and Know how much you are appreciated ,each time you restore , You have made the masterpiece possible ,again, you all should be bloody proud of yourselves I am
How beautiful. Thank you for the upload, this is fantastic.
Hometown 🙌
and all the best buildings in melbourne are still the ones built during this time. Such a shame the modern buildigns are all glass and cheap
"It is curious to remember that these grounds were once the city's rubbish tip" 😂 Curious indeed! That line gave me a good chuckle.
BTW you've done a great job restoring this one. I've rarely heard such a clear soundtrack on a film from the early '30s, and the picture looks good too.
Thanks for letting us know you enjoyed the film. Unfortunately we do not have any better film components for this film and there are audio dropouts where there is just nothing on the film. Appreciate the feedback. Thanks for watching.
At 4:09 , not many people would know of a horse drawn lawn mower.
I found it fascinating.
They were ahead of the times then - no fossil-fuels.
Stunning. How sad.
How tiny the plane trees on St. Kilda Road are! They're so much taller and their trunks so much thicker. If only they could speak.
Horse riding on the Botanic gardens Tan track at 8:00 .
Still in use for horse riding in the 1964/65 filming of the NFSA Life in Australia : Melbourne
One of this channels most watched films.
It would be interesting to find out when and how the horses were squeezed out. I expect an uproar if you took a horse to ride on the tan now.
Thank you NFSA.
It hasn't changed a bit!
❤ great stuff
To bad we didn’t get to see pentridge. Great 👍 video.

Lovely historical record. I've been to all those buildings and features shown in the film 14 years ago, and they're still standing to this day.
It would've been most enjoyable to hear the narrative, but as usual the sound maniac has ruined the
audio, drowning out the spoken word. Thank goodness for subtitles 😮
so the tan was a horse track...
