    Hi, I am the author of Looking Glass. While I can see you have tried your best here to provide useful information on how to setup Looking Glass, it's causing people to follow this and come into our Discord seeking help because many of the things you did here are either wrong or sub-optimal. I'd be happy to spend some time with you to help you understand how LG works, explain the issues you ran into, and why adjusting the curves on your host GPU had no impact on the guest FPS. Getting good information out into the public on how to setup and use LG would reduce our support workload. We also suggest that you always recommend people read the documentation on the website, it's kept current and updated as we make changes to the project, for instance you completely omitted the setup of the the KVMFR kernel module for GPU DMA transfers.

    As i firstly discovered your channel, i remember you did something on windows, you pressed hotkey to swap virtual desktops, and i was shockhed, that you actually used virtualized windows all that time. I'm really thankful that you showed full guide for similar vm

    You installed the host on both first go-around lol host is for the vm (it's hosting the server feeding the frames from the gpu), client is for the host machine (recieves the frames from the server).
    Easy to get mixed up

    To automatically fix indentation in vim hit "==" for a single line or "shift+v (n)j =" where n is the number of lines you want selected for indentation

    Does looking glass allow for displaying your VM across multiple monitors? Say, if you had a three monitor setup, would Looking Glass only display your VM on one monitor?

    I didn’t understand the essence of this approach very well... Does the guest system use the same video card via PCI or do you have two of them? It seemed to me that it was impossible to render both the host and the guest VM through one video card. I'm not good at English and maybe I misunderstood something in the video.

    • @jsnjyn

      The way Chris is using it requires 2 or more GPUs, but the concept (using Linux as a host, with GPU passthrough to a Windows guest) can work with just 1 GPU, with some caveats.

  • @hyoryo
    @hyoryo 5 месяцев назад

    linux as no real way to detect programs going full 3D. so you want to configure gamemode or corespeed to tell the graphics driver to switch from 2D eco mode to full 3D accelleration mode for games. you could also manually tell your graphics driver to stay in accelleration mode, but i don't suggest that unless you own a power plant.
    while the nvidia driver tries to detect games with varying accuracy, the amd drivers entirely rely on human intervention.

    If it's something I've learnt in my time fookin around with passthrough, it's not really worth it in two cases. If you've too good hardware , if you've too shite hardware
    There are obviously cases where only passthrough is a way but the number of variables passthrough can introduce sometimes , can be an abomination.
    That being said , the technique in itself is amazing and the community's work on it is just staggering to the point where setting up a fully isolated Win10 VM with full passthrough can be done in just a few clicks and commands at this point of time.

      @TorsionTestis ignorance. Typical of a Windows user. Valve has made it so that any modern game can run on linux. They wanted the steam deck to be viable after all. Its on the game developers to enable compatibility. If it doesn't work, it's because of game developers who hold a grunge against linux (epic games) and purposefully patch out linux compatibility
