      So can you find any video of the scenario that you describe playing out in real life?
      If you can't, it's safe to say that this is training for something that doesn't happen.
      People do grab in fights but they don't over extend and it's usually only after they have landed the first shot. When they do grab you, they grab high and it's not the grabbing hand that you should be worried about, it's what's coming from the other hand.

      It is one the principles of all aikido techniques. Unbalance in fundamental.

    • @diegoaragao9404
      @diegoaragao9404 3 года назад +1

      @@baldieman64 if it has a video, it is probably not "real life". You simply won't find a video of a martial arts master using its knowledge in real life (and by real life I mean life and death situations) because they are clever than that. You can of course have a video of CCTV cameras in which people are fighting for real, but most likely they are not martial arts masters.
      However, your comment is good to remind us that this kind of video is dangerous (as the own video shows at the end). PLEASE, don't think that you will know how to react to violence by watching this or by training some of these techniques in the tatami.

    • @baldieman64
      @baldieman64 3 года назад +1

      @@diegoaragao9404 I have more than a passing acquaintance with Aikido and while I'm not saying that the techniques of Aikido don't work (they do, and can be devastating), I will say that the training methodology is useless, rendering the techniques useless.
      As for the idea that "masters" of Aikido, or any other martial can somehow miraculously transition into someone with invincible skills when threatened with real violence is laughable - as Yanagi Ryuken and pretty much everyone who has crossed hands with Xu Xiaodong have shown.

    • @diegoaragao9404
      @diegoaragao9404 3 года назад +1

      @@baldieman64 Maybe I didn't express myself clear enough. I am not saying that martial arts masters become somewhat invincible. I am just saying that they often won't need to use their technique in life and death situations. Masters don't do that. Just as an example: remember Mr. Miagyi in The Karate Kid: "To learn karate in order to don't have to use it". Only morons start to fight the world with a couple of techniques learned in the tatami and pretending to be "real and dangerous". These are not masters.
      I am just saying what I have experienced. I never saw a real master teaching to its students "wow, learn this technique, i will make you invincible. I am invincible btw". People that I saw saying something like that were surely not masters, but pretenders.
      About the Yanagi Ryuken videos, I didn't know him. Thanks for mentioning. I found his videos stupid and for me he seemed to be a "bullshit master" as it was stated in a video. A serious aikido school does not practice "no touch" while saying that it is a secret power to real violence situations. This does not make sense and anyone who does that is lying. In fact there exists "no touch" aikido, but it is a way of practice and not a fight.

    While this is a demo against basic low threat simulated attacks or aggression, for those who think that such techniques wouldn't work, need to keep in mind a few things: the yielding and element of surprise the tori is using to respond (which is found in other arts besides Aikidõ), the good skill of ukemi that the uke is displaying (as these techniques would be more damaging on the average attacker that doesn't know how to fall properly), and lastly that both of them have slowed down the speed of the technique (and thus the momentum) for the purposes of this demo; and thus in real life things would be happening much faster, and odds are the attacker would be unconcious and suffering a few injuries.
    And on a lasting note, for all the MMA fanatics who might put their opinion to this video or this art (as they do other effective self defense based arts) MMA is not the be all and end all of what is or isn't effective in martial arts as a whole. MMA is a sporting event and while it's practitioners are tremendous athletes, they are competing in a sport, which most of the time, is a very different set of goals than self defense. All martial arts, including what has become known as MMA, are capable of enriching the lives of their practitioners in ways that have very little to do with combat or fighting. That being said, martial arts geared towards self defense, the use of their tactics are done as a last resort, if the situation can't be diffused or escaped from; whereas MMA one can actually get penalized for not fighting or showing aggression. So it is never a good idea to criticize a system simply because it "seems" to lack what another system has, or it's goals differ from another system.

      My comment to you it's based on my life experience, you can take it as a gift or just simply be immature about it and get offended, the choise is entirely yours.
      You expressed an opinion, which not necessarily reflect the truth. MMA it's a mixture of what you have in your arsenal and they made a sport out of it.
      As far as real istuation well... you have not idea of what it means to be attack by people with the sole objective to hurt you! It's obvious, when I read your comment! I know what it feels like! I have jumped before and if you think that what you saw in this video will help you, or that you philosophical explanation has some truth; you are delusional.
      You will get hurt! Not just that but when you convince others that this stuff will help them if they get jumped, you are lieing to them. Worst you could make them a target of some stupid bullies which thrive from the pain they cause o others. It's their remedy against insecurity and they never act alone or with someone of their own size.
      PLEASE ! stop spreading your nonsense!!! I know I have been there!!! This stuff is beautiful, and should be kept alive and treasured as historical. But do not sell it as effective, it's not! Kick and punch few people so you can run away, that's effective!

      Aikido is for low to mid level threat, it is design like that, unlike Judo and BJJ. But they are rooted to same art from Jujutsu a Samurai Martial Art.
      While MMA is for mid to high threat, it is a system of combat not just for self defense but also for a fight to the death.
      Both are good, but the chance from Daito Ryu or Aikido against weapon attacker have a higher probability to survive.

      Neji Hyuuga if u truly think that, I think your chance to survive a person wielding a weapon trying to kill you will be Low.

    • @animated000
      @animated000 4 года назад

      ..IMO. Many look cool. Notice there are no follow through from UKE. Noone with intent to harm just grabs.
      A punch is coming a fraction of second later. That punch changes the dynamics of the situation.
      Aikido is nice to know for it's circular movements and a few locks, but I'd go for MMA/Boxing.. this coming from a Taekwondo practitioner

      @@animated000 not for all Aikido clubs today, but these Aikibudo techniques (predominant expression of Aiki in the 20s and 30s) practiced here will also be practiced with resistance and follow through. Is just that when its practiced with resistance and follow through, the techniques stop becoming singular ie you have to set it up and change midway. So a grab is normally a control or an unbalance, depending at which point you are able to react, dictates the technique. (Even in TKD, to teach distance etc, a set of techniques is launched on a 'hanging' attacker.)
      These Aikibudo sets were the basis of Kano (having been impressed) sending students to Ueshiba and Tomiki developing a competitive Aikido and influencing Judo's Goshin-jutsu.
      When I was learning Aikido years ago, when learning the Aikijutsu application, was different to modern Aikido in so much as emphasis in technique. There wasn't so much leading, circular movement tend to be inward (rather than the flowing outward movement that's become aikido trademark), arms brace in to the body to effect releases and manipulation, pins had a lot of kneeling on the neck etc etc. Because of the philosophy, a lot of these techniques were discarded or taught as a very small component of the whole.

    これ全部演武だから怪我させないようやってるけど、実戦だったらコンクリとかアスファルトに顔とか頭から叩きつけられるってことなんだよな。
    関節も極めるんじゃなくてそのまま折るか、挫くか。
    しかもこれに当て身技も加わるって考えたら五体満足では済まないよなぁ、やっぱり。
    華麗で優しい柔の技しか見せてないけどそう考えたらやっぱり合気道は武術だよなぁってしみじみ思う。
