The names of pieces of his art like sick boi He is sick physically but then the art is sick in another sense that it’s so good. It’s sick it’s so good. Another enthralling reaction, you're so much fun to watch, and you catch so many aspects on first viewing, I'm always impressed. Keep up the great work! (There's always more to discover, which is why I'm so excited for the Further Review stuff too!) One thing about Money Game Part 1 that I completely missed on the first few watches is the brilliant cinematography by Ren's mate @Samuel Perry-Falvey -- I was so caught up in the tense theatre of threatened violence, and the unpredictability of Ren's flow, and the density of the lyrics, that I wasn't paying attention to the fact that the video is all one single shot. I'm sure it took a zillion takes to get it right, but just amazing choreography of the performers and the camera to make all the long shots and close ups and lighting hit the emotional beats right along with the music, AND tell the story in truly cinematic ways. Also, I can't *believe* you recognized Romain Axisa, on first viewing, by the way he holds the guitar. 😂 (He also did some amazing acting with his body language, radiating terror of what was coming next, especially given he had to do it over and over while sitting hooded in that hard chair through however many takes this took.) I imagine he can see through the hood at least enough to keep track of Ren's major movements, but still, it's hard for me to conceive of how both of them had to be keeping their mental metronomes in sync through the interruptions in the music. And the symbolism of drawing eyes on the hood, forcibly opening your eyes to the way the world works... and of pointing the mirror/anger/destruction at himself at the end instead of the helpless victim of the system, while at the same time evoking Thích Quảng Đức who protested injustice with self-immolation... there's so much!

How funny would it be if this whole video started with Romain betting Ren he could play his guitar blindfolded. 😂 I love each of your reactions even more than the last! I would be super interested to hear more about your thinking in relation to what Ren talks about here. I am very much on the same wavelength as him with that stuff and I was so excited to finally hear someone echoing my own thoughts. There's a live 360 cam performance of Jenny and Screech where Ren has an interlude around the 7 minute mark and goes into a little speech about political/social stuff, I bet you'd find it pretty interesting! OH and with the self referential stuff you were talking about, he has Easter eggs and call backs all over the place. His newest track, Illest of Our Time, is chock full of them. So maybe that would be a good one to visit after you've done a few more of his first!
As you go through Ren's catalogue you'll find easter eggs in almost every song. I'd love to map them all out, and really see how it is all connected. In his birthday Twitch stream (don't watch it until you've seen Illest of Our Time as he watches it and reactions to it on the stream) he said he is trying to create his own MCU. That's why he has Jenny/Screech/Pig man/Money Game vinyl toys in his store. 😂 You mentioned Anime, so I think you'll like Ren's video for Heretic. It's a very anime video and there's a "super sayan" kinda moment. It's a dark/heavy song in many ways but I think you'll get a buzz from the stream crossing visuals.)
Not only would I watch a 10 minute video of Walterooski reacting to paint drying, water boiling, or toast popping - I'd probably come back to watch his "Upon Further Review" segments. What I'm trying to say here is that when you type that this guy reacts, you have to put "reacts" in caps, italicize it, click on B to bold it, CTRL+U, change the font color to red, and finish it all off with some aggressive punctuation as you snort a line of coffee grounds.

A full analysis on the music video for Pt. 1: The kidnapped individual was a 'defendant' in a 'trial' with the psychotic Ren accusing him and acting as Judge/Jury/Executioner. Ren's character, through the song, goes on to explain the individual's crime: being part of a money game - a twisted game where people are divided and suffering for the sake of wealth. People who are willing to exploit their peers get ahead, and other are forced to do bad things for survival. Each time he gets close to exacting punishment and killing his victim, he stops to continue explaining more ways we twist our lives for that wealth. He even symbolically draws eyes on the head sack to signify that the victim isn't blind to it: the captor has 'opened his eyes'. He has no excuse and deserves this punishment of death. Finally, with one final attempt to do the deed, Ren's character realized the futility of what he's doing. Looking in the mirror, as per the lyrics, he is also part of the money game. And so, he puts aside his holier attitude and burns himself to death instead. As he said, as assuredly as the whole world turns while playing this game, the whole world burns as well.
Therecare a couple of artists who self-reference. Frank Zappa did it throughout his career. Songs would be revived, rearranged and repackaged to serve a different purpose on an album ten years later. Characters would appear and reappear in different contexts and themes would reimerge. The other artist is King Crimson who return to themes and motifs again and again, but always reinvent them as something on the cutting edge.
As you probably already noticed Ren is a fan of one shot videos where the entire video is one continuous shot. He does those a lot and it's part of his genius. The amount of work that goes in to the planning to pull that off. Don't get me wrong they don't shoot just one time but the finished product is one of the shots they made. They just keep restarting until they manage to pull it off perfectly from start to finish. I love this guy 💖

Aaaand I just had the thought to check the rest of your videos just in case, despite this only being 5 days old - you beat me to it!! "How could you leave us" will break your heart. I'd also recommend Mansion (you should REALLY listen to this ASAP, as it comes up very very often in the rest of his discography), Therapy Session, and perhaps Real to start with. Part of me wants to recommend Intros I, II, and III because I think you'll lose your mind at them, but you really shouldn't until you've heard more of his stuff. He's the kind musician, like Ren, that loves to make connections/callbacks to his older stuff, so starting from the beginning will give you the most bang for your buck, as it were. But no pressure, of course - do what makes you happy / feels right to you :)

If you haven’t already, I would strongly urge you to take a look at Ren’s old video of the song ‘Patience’ (If you’re searching the tube, it’s the Ren Gill M.E version) It’s from back when he was first (mis)diagnosed with ME and featured in a documentary about that illness. Even little baby Ren leaves me astounded by his talent and strength

Another enthralling reaction, you're so much fun to watch, and you catch so many aspects on first viewing, I'm always impressed. Keep up the great work! (There's always more to discover, which is why I'm so excited for the Further Review stuff too!) One thing about Money Game Part 1 that I completely missed on the first few watches is the brilliant cinematography by Ren's mate @Samuel Perry-Falvey -- I was so caught up in the tense theatre of threatened violence, and the unpredictability of Ren's flow, and the density of the lyrics, that I wasn't paying attention to the fact that the video is all one single shot. I'm sure it took a zillion takes to get it right, but just amazing choreography of the performers and the camera to make all the long shots and close ups and lighting hit the emotional beats right along with the music, AND tell the story in truly cinematic ways.
Also, I can't *believe* you recognized Romain Axisa, on first viewing, by the way he holds the guitar. 😂 (He also did some amazing acting with his body language, radiating terror of what was coming next, especially given he had to do it over and over while sitting hooded in that hard chair through however many takes this took.) I imagine he can see through the hood at least enough to keep track of Ren's major movements, but still, it's hard for me to conceive of how both of them had to be keeping their mental metronomes in sync through the interruptions in the music.
And the symbolism of drawing eyes on the hood, forcibly opening your eyes to the way the world works... and of pointing the mirror/anger/destruction at himself at the end instead of the helpless victim of the system, while at the same time evoking Thích Quảng Đức who protested injustice with self-immolation... there's so much!

I love each of your reactions even more than the last! I would be super interested to hear more about your thinking in relation to what Ren talks about here. I am very much on the same wavelength as him with that stuff and I was so excited to finally hear someone echoing my own thoughts. There's a live 360 cam performance of Jenny and Screech where Ren has an interlude around the 7 minute mark and goes into a little speech about political/social stuff, I bet you'd find it pretty interesting!

That's why he has Jenny/Screech/Pig man/Money Game vinyl toys in his store. 😂

Not only would I watch a 10 minute video of Walterooski reacting to paint drying, water boiling, or toast popping - I'd probably come back to watch his "Upon Further Review" segments. What I'm trying to say here is that when you type that this guy reacts, you have to put "reacts" in caps, italicize it, click on B to bold it, CTRL+U, change the font color to red, and finish it all off with some aggressive punctuation as you snort a line of coffee grounds.

A full analysis on the music video for Pt. 1:
The kidnapped individual was a 'defendant' in a 'trial' with the psychotic Ren accusing him and acting as Judge/Jury/Executioner. Ren's character, through the song, goes on to explain the individual's crime: being part of a money game - a twisted game where people are divided and suffering for the sake of wealth. People who are willing to exploit their peers get ahead, and other are forced to do bad things for survival.
Each time he gets close to exacting punishment and killing his victim, he stops to continue explaining more ways we twist our lives for that wealth. He even symbolically draws eyes on the head sack to signify that the victim isn't blind to it: the captor has 'opened his eyes'. He has no excuse and deserves this punishment of death.
Finally, with one final attempt to do the deed, Ren's character realized the futility of what he's doing. Looking in the mirror, as per the lyrics, he is also part of the money game. And so, he puts aside his holier attitude and burns himself to death instead.
As he said, as assuredly as the whole world turns while playing this game, the whole world burns as well.

He leaves easter eggs in a lot of his work. "What you Want" has a nod to Hi Ren too. Makes me laugh every time.
Therecare a couple of artists who self-reference. Frank Zappa did it throughout his career. Songs would be revived, rearranged and repackaged to serve a different purpose on an album ten years later. Characters would appear and reappear in different contexts and themes would reimerge. The other artist is King Crimson who return to themes and motifs again and again, but always reinvent them as something on the cutting edge.
As you probably already noticed Ren is a fan of one shot videos where the entire video is one continuous shot. He does those a lot and it's part of his genius. The amount of work that goes in to the planning to pull that off. Don't get me wrong they don't shoot just one time but the finished product is one of the shots they made. They just keep restarting until they manage to pull it off perfectly from start to finish. I love this guy 💖

I see the trilogy as Hi Ren - the war, Sick boi - the battle and the Hunger - the victory. This might be a bit simplistic but the best way I can convey it.

And I was right lol!! I loved watching you dance around to it, relax into the music, and then get forcibly pulled back into the severity of the subject when Ren did something else fucked up to his captive haha. You're the second person I've seen notice that he used the bat as a percussive element. And the celebrating when Ren said something sick!! "When did freedom become a reason to hate" and "there's no left, there's no right, in the middle we sleep" had me laughing out loud, because I reacted the same way the first time I heard these.
Which, going further into the video, makes sense - "as a former capitalist." Something I think you may appreciate in light of that - KnoxHill pointed out that "rain, rain, rain, rain" isn't just "make it rain" or "oh buddy the sky is crying for what we have become," but also "reign." As in, the reign of capitalism, of money, of the rich and the politicians in their pockets. Your unrestrained joy and excitement is giving me life.
This feels very presumptuous to say, especially as I'm only two videos into your catalogue, but I think you and I may have similar reactions to music. So... forgive me, but I think you would like NF. Aaaand I just had the thought to check the rest of your videos just in case, despite this only being 5 days old - you beat me to it!! "How could you leave us" will break your heart. I'd also recommend Mansion (you should REALLY listen to this ASAP, as it comes up very very often in the rest of his discography), Therapy Session, and perhaps Real to start with. Part of me wants to recommend Intros I, II, and III because I think you'll lose your mind at them, but you really shouldn't until you've heard more of his stuff. He's the kind musician, like Ren, that loves to make connections/callbacks to his older stuff, so starting from the beginning will give you the most bang for your buck, as it were. But no pressure, of course - do what makes you happy / feels right to you :)
