Awesome! Cant wait to see some content on the ol'50! Looks like quite the task to get that set up! Gosh wish I could be there watchin!!! Haha, Get Some! love it.
love it! reminds me of standing the Derrick up on the rigs sometimes you have the clouds zipping over head and it gives you the illusion the rigs moving and wanting to to go over
i spent a little time in casper wy on a super single then in cut bank mt on a tripple . wish i would have let me go up in the crows nest .but was just a floor hand .good times made good money
I've run TMY 45's 255's and 355's but the 50 I have to say was my favorite because it was so mobile you could drive on the hwy and all the paved rds back when they came out, I could finish a job drive 30 miles away and be logging the same day that was late 80's early 90's but there were also a lot of clear cuts with a lot of logs on the ground back then. The 255 and 355 were roomy and powerful beasts I did fall in love with the swing.
Dam Axel forgot about that one never ran or seen one but in 87 the boss really wanted one but he never pulled the trigger and got it. Anyway I just want to say you have really great video's on yarding and logging, I am contempt on tractors and and the big cat grapple skidders now. I still run the yarder when somebody needs time off or is sick but no big one's just a small TMY45 he did put a big new cat engine in it though and a single main line drum for more reach instead of the split drum it had again great video's.
sky master thanks I appreciate it I'm glad you like there's anything in particular you'd like to see just let me know I'll do the best I can but was wondering that 3:55 is that an inch machine or is it still 7 8
It's been 16 yrs since I ran the 355 we ran 7/8 swaged on haulback and drop line and regualar cheaper 7/8 on slackpuller did not run motorized carriage back then same on the 255 and the 55. And on your video's you cover everything as far as I can see really liked the line spool one I was completely anal about that. One other thing the company I worked for a few yrs ago had the small Diamond tracked yarder we ran motorized on them and the company I'm with now has the 45 and a skagit with motorized carriage.
i didn't read the whole question before answering .still yes and the thing is we had a really nice ty50 that would smoke this job out .that is the swing yarder in my profile pic .i will do a video of why its tipped over and why they sold it
Yarder might need a little maintenance but the 8V92 sounds good and judging by the stack has a decent tune-up on it. Won't have much of a landing to work with looks like. You guys just deck everything and send the trucks up later once you do a road change?
+Speed and Marine this is part of the reason we have 2 loaders up there the dangle head cant grap more than a couple at a time so 1 loader clean the landing handing them to him then after being worked up the other loader .put them in a deck or on a truck .there are some landing that we dont need the second loader but will do a cid on why we set up where we do
Was just wondering. I've seen it done both ways. Seems like it nicer to just deck everything as out of the way as you can on those tight landings so the truck isn't tangled up in the works. Load out after you've moved a few roads and have the yader out of the way.
what size and brand is that good soundin ol diesel?? I could listen to a diesel all day. what does the 50 stand for im not a logger so forgive me please for the dumb questions thanks for the vid Alex
its got a DETROIT motor forget the size rite off hand and the 50 stands for how tall the tower is .so a tmy 70 is 70 feet tall and a madill 172 is 72 feet tall .not a dumb question it's the only way to learn is to ask .stay safe get logs
just reading through the comments and was gonna ask if it was a Jimmy under the hood cuz it sure sounded so, but somebody beat me to er lol. Is it an 8v71? I know Madill used to and maybe still does favor Detroit to power their shovels and yarders also seems like quite a few yarder brands are Detroit (again my knowledge is limited) for what I've seen, do you know why Detroit work so well in those setups Alex? I remember you saying the Skagit 737 had a Cummins, that and I could hear it but always curious about that stuff. Hope your knees hold up as the lead brush ape hook man friend
no it is a Detroit .i dont know a whole lot about motors and such i studyed the ugly end of logging. what u can do is ask speed and marine he knows by just looking in the vids guys a genius .
10-4, a running nickname for those old Detroit was a screaming Jimmy I think because a lot of the old GMC general trucks had Detroit motors, at least over east here that was a common rigginese type name among the log wagon pilots and cow trucks
yes it is sat down there almost a year and didn't fix a couple thing's that needed to be fixed when i parked it there .so now they get to come out in the field to repair it .
every time you change corridors, do you have to put the boom down or can you move with it up? Just from seeing the timber I think we are going to hear you giggling alot on your videos.... Why does the quality of the timber change our attitudes?
we do not have to boom down but it only takes another 5 minutes if we do just depends on road conditions. the track mounted 50's u can leave up and go just about any where u like .funny how big wood make's the boy's and girl's happy .LOL
I'd love to mob that down a freeway idk why I just do lol. Where you guys at now Alex? Funny story found out we are logging next door to your second oldest brother I believe.
oh man so would i rite down town portland would be sick .we are up fisk rd out of low pass .and sorry to hear that u have to be that close to my brother but better u than me hahaha stay safe get logs

sky master ya I worked on a 155 and a 108 whashigton that ran the msp carriage loved it
Love it! Would a track mounted swing yarder be more efficient on this sale? Be safe my friend.
Tim Haderly myself think that track mount machines are better off on any sale .but thats just my opinion stay safe friend get logs
i didn't read the whole question before answering .still yes and the thing is we had a really nice ty50 that would smoke this job out .that is the swing yarder in my profile pic .i will do a video of why its tipped over and why they sold it

Speed and Marine oh ya thats kinda the theory plus that way the trucks dont get held up while we are moving or logging

yes it is sat down there almost a year and didn't fix a couple thing's that needed to be fixed when i parked it there .so now they get to come out in the field to repair it .
Always the way !
Stay safe and have a great week Alex.
Another good video Alex.
No need for a landing or a truck turnaround?
thats the bad thing about thinining is the lack of just that
