TV Choice always give the "On The Buses" films a one star (poor) rating! It REALLY annoys me, because "On The Buses" is probably the greatest sitcom ever!
I met Anna Karen and Michael Robbins in the 1990s, when they were in a stage version of "On the Buses", in Toronto, Canada. I'd sent a note backstage, before the show, and afterwards, Anna and Michael said it had meant so much to them, especially so far from their home, to know that somebody out there in the audience (which was, sadly, rather small) cared enough to let them know how much their work meant to her. Usually, matinees are lower-energy, but this one had plenty of energy.
Rip reg Varney you still make me laugh watching on the buses and I'm 26 years old your legacy will live on making the nation laugh When over Comedy will Fade in years to come

Excellent show and still watch all the episodes, never tire of the comedy it was classic. The Golden Age of Television. The comedy between all actors was very tight and precise. "It was a grand life on the buses" One of the best British shows ever written.
We have over the past few years watched On The Buses at tea time with our 2 young children at the kitchen table who love Stan, Jack & Blakey. ITV moved the slot to mid afternoon. Brilliant English comedy shame they don't make comedy shows like it anymore.
Car alarm going off in the background all the way through the interview. Blimey 1990, I would have been at work when this interview was originally on. Those “On the Buses” were absolute classics.
Jack: "Phwoar! Look at the bumpers on that!" Stan: "Gaw blimey, not 'arf!" Blakey: "What are you two lecherous morons up to? I 'ate you Butler, 'ate ya! Now, GET THAT BUS OUT!" Blakey: "Oh, oh, now I'm making acid! I think I'm beginning to 'ate you Butler!" At home: Arthur: "What a lot of rot you do talk!" Olive: "Don't be so rude!" Mum: "Stan, Stan, is that you? Your dinners in the oven. I'm going to Bingo with the Inspector!"
A very talented entertainer and genuinely nice man who never let fame go to his head, he was actually olderr than he appeared when starring in the series.
I was 6 years old in mid 1990. But I have been a fan of on the buses since the late 2000's. This show was very funny. And entertaining. Rest in peace all the cast and crew of this great show.
Such a good and articulate man and actor from Canning Town in Newham where my family lived. Also David Essex (nee Cook) came from Canning Town and attended Star Lane School. Two great local talented and successful celebrities.
I do remember when the newspapers at the time and tv magazines announced that on the buses was returning in 1990 but unfortunately it never did. I don't think in a way it would of been a patch on the original classic 1970s series which i still love and always will, i think it's an hilarious series and have the complete collection on dvd of all 7 series of on the buses released by `Network' as well as the 3 spin-off 1970s films on dvd "On The Buses", "Mutiny On The Buses" and "Holiday On The Buses", i also think the three spin-films are every bit as funny as the series was. I actually prefer old 1970s sitcoms to all the modern so-called comedies of today. On the buses was a truly absolute classic sitcom that we will never see the likes of ever again, because of changing views of the world and of course a lot of 70s sitcoms are not P.C! Reg Varney (going on this interview) seemed like a really nice man and a true gent. Long may he rest in peace. The only cast member from 'On The Buses' still alive today is South African born 'Anna Karen' who occasionally in the past played 'Aunt Sal' in Eastenders no less. I hope she is well in these times of 'Lock-Down' because of Corvid-19. I have also posted the article on the planed sequel series of 'On The Buses', which is from "Wikipedia" in another post above for those of you interested in reading more about it.
My 2 favourite episodes of on the buses was when Stan made is own beer and everyone got drunk and the one where they go back in the past and the bus is pulled by a horse
Yes they were brilliant. Them episodes were called ‘Brew it Yourself’ and ‘On the Omnibuses’ The latter one was brilliant, coz the writers knew Reg was leaving, so that episode was especially filmed for him, coz he loved that era.

Lovely to see Reg, but a bit of a car crash (or should that be bus crash) of an interview, what with a car alarm going off in the background. Pity On The Buses never made it back to the small screen. I recall the whole cast being on Wogan around the same time, plugging a possible comeback. With the exception of Anna Karen (Olive) they're all gone now :-(
Nick Green it would be today yes. Because it would be watered down and very PC. It wouldnt work today, it is as you say best left alone and let the originals stay well loved and remembered. Can only imagine a show like that being pitched to a feminist at the itv or bbc building today,, theyd probably self combust and the one trying to sell it would be accused of all sorts and arrested. Sadly society isnt tolerant of anything different, despite preaching tolerence themselves.

@@StevenShaw How sad this mooted spin-off never materialised, it could’ve saved poor Bob Grant’s life.
