Rusty. I just just got kicked out of my house a couple of days and my only choice was to live In my 2015 Toyota Prius so I did and this showed up yay I bought the bed and I sleep in it it is comfortable. Yay you saved my life!
This seven year old video came up on my side bar. Must say I really enjoyed it. You did a good job getting your Prius setup for camping. I can see why so many people have viewed it. 😮👍
This video was a breath of fresh air! Haha. Great looking property you got. Good reminders of how we need to keep it simple, and not to take the wooden or brick house with us when we go camping (or even live the vehicle life). I like your "just for me" expressions that remind people that your way doesn't have to be everybody's way. Thanks for sharing.
I agree the 4" tri-fold memory foam mattress is very comfortable & convenient based on its ability to fold into a 25" x 25" x 12" that fits behind the back seat when it's folded up & in the 60% side when sleeping on it, perfect!
That is the most beautiful Homestead! I was raised in Texas and I just love it except for the weather of course the cold and the hot humid get to me after 30 years in Oceanside California I am a weather wuss! 🐙
So were are you headed this time? I love how you just make up your mind, get supplies, pack, and leave. good for you. I hope that you have a wonderful time and get some great footage to share with us that can't go out and do this anymore. thanks for taking us along with you. stay safe and happy trails. Joyce
Rusty Thanks for all the great info. I bought a rebuilt Prius from Cars are Us. Steve is great $7,000.00 toured all over the USA for a year and loved it. I'm back home in Thailand now. Take Care Bangkok John.
Love all your videos Rusty! I'm planning to take off on my own very soon. Was thinking van life for myself but your videos make me see I can start w a car.Great set up.❤ God Bless
You're all set! 😊 Just wanted to take a moment to wish you safe & pleasant traveling. Looking forward to hearing about your adventure. Au revoir, abiento, bye-bye ;)
Rusty- nice setup; very minimalistic. I like the plywood at the head of the mattress which create a kind of cubby hole. I might use that for my setup, but I think I will also make it double as a table with adjustable legs that hangs out the back of the Prius, attached to the rear tie downs using a couple of carabiners. Thanks!
Best wishes on the latest leg of your journey. Rusty, I'm 74 and have been haunted with wanderlust for most of my recent years. Right now I use my '08 Honda Odyssey to camp at music festivals and this spring I intend on branching out on more and longer adventures. I've been following you and a few others and become inspired to get out there. On another note, I was wondering what your take was on the new Prius Prime. Thanks - Jim PS...Keep the Videos coming
Rusty - can you send a link for the memory foam mattress ? There are SO many that I want to make sure I get this right the first time! Or, if you could be a little more precise, like who the manufacturer is... anything would help. Real close to hittin' the road, Jim
What was under the memory foam mattress? (when you opened the side door). It looked pretty thick. Put the wine in the back seat, lol. You wouldn't want that up front in case you get stopped.
Moon Dancer -- that was the back passenger seat folded over a piece of plywood for stability. The matt is on top and at the head of the matt is a box of clothing Rusty said.
I believe on the passenger side, I would remove that seat and leave it at the camper. Then either get one of those walmart plastic 3 drawer units and sit in there or build some sort of storage unit that would fit the area, and then a basket in the floor up under the dash area. With what little you haul, that would pretty much free up the entire back area for personal space.
I love your ideas and have used some, but honey please don't put anything, especially drinking and eating stuff, inside your pooping pot! You can't clean that pot enough to store anything safely!
@3:33 Hey Rusty, why don't you like the rain guards that fit in the grooves? I'm on my 2nd Prius and had the stick-on type on my last car & groove type on this car. I don't see much difference other than the cost & quality which have little to do with the way they install.
I put 1 tbsp ACV into 1 qrt water to sponge bath after rinsing w/1qrt. water. Balances PH,skin feels smooth, disenfects n relaxes me. U figure ! Leaves no oder.
Thanks for sharing. I've never had the window visors but am thinking of getting some for camping in my VW Golf, why don't you want the kind that go up in the window channel?
Has Prius ever considered fold flat passenger seat? Many cars have the feature now. Would really be valuable. Also, I've read that the Prius will run the AC overnight while parked (and off) for about a gallon of Gas? Is this true and how often does the engine turn on if fully charged?
while running the ac in my 2013 Prius...probably less than a gallon for a 8 hour sleep session. The engine ran about 5 minutes per hour...hardly noticed it.
Can you put a link for purchasing the window visors. Amazon has different prices (and probably quality levels) and I don't mind spending some cash; but I don't want to do that twice. Do it once, do it right, never have to do it again... Thanks Rusty!!!!
@@rusty78609 I am just siting in my apartment in Stockholm and day dreaming to come out to wild and travelling to far destinations round the world sir.
Thats been an awesome idea, just doing it right away, I wish you the best, and by the way where have you kept your spare wheel bro ? Is it on the roof, at the back or underneath..... ?
Thank you. I couldn't picture it. HAVE FUN FOR ALL OF US. BY JUST BEING YOURSELF. YAHHOOO,!! I am snowed in and still in bed. Had my choc. creme donut, coffee . A Treat. dog still sleeping! nice. mmm
Great setup Rusty. So I'm guessing you don't cover the back door Windows? Is your tint sufficient for privacy? Also, I thought I saw you do a video on the slip over bug screens, are you going to use them so you can crack your windows on nice nights? Have a nice trip, I think you're getting close to living full time in the Prius ;)
bugsoc.com sells window screens for car doors. They're kind of expensive but they stay on better than the magnetic ones: high winds and no one can just come up and pull them off. They're a must for camping in the skeeter zones.
Why does nobody do the one single thing that will easily add a vast amount of capacity and space to even the interior of a small car...? And that's take.....out.....the front....passenger.......seat. Just do yourselves a favor, remove the four bolts that hold that seat in place, and put it in storage somewhere. The front passenger seat police aren't going to come after you, and how often do you have passengers anyway? It's taking up a huge amount of otherwise useable space. I know. How do you think I as an upstart pressure washer, was able to haul around a 4 gpm pressure washer as well as all the rest of my stuff in a 2006 Hyundia Accent? Ok, well there ya go. Just take out the damn front seat already. In all these "living in a car" vids, no one really uses the front passenger seat for anything anyway.
It’s so easy to find “van life videos” but so hard to find an actual CAR that’s like. Car sized and small ya know.
So thank you for this video!
"If it doesn't have a triple purpose, I leave it at home" great quote for car living
This was a good one from four years ago!

Wishing you the best ! How’s it going?
I love the sage wisdom on the way out (3 qts. a day, deep breathing, etc.) Great advice thank you sir 💜
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE LIVING IN MY PRIUS TOO ITS SO FUN AND EXCITING !!But I sleep in back seat or front I'm only 5 ft 1 so it's quite manageable
Love your style💜

Shower in your flippers. Even in the gym I wear my flippers. You want the $5-7 ONE part flip flop. No glue just one molded part for each foot.
Please make some more video during your trip. Many people love to see and gathering your wonderful idea. Thanks

Pat Veitenthal Don't worry...he doesn't poop directly into the pot...he lines it with disposable bags to 'do the deed.'
Victor Mcphail doesn’t matter it still may come in contact with fecal matter
Ditto 👌

Yes where is that new table and chair in the car?
Nice and simple, but didn't understand - you store cooking gear in your toilet?
sort of...I poop is a bag...discard the bag...

groove guards can get dirt inside...makes a grinding noise closing the window

For the windows? Any parts store.. get the ones that "stick on"... not the ones that fit in the window channel...

Nice spread you got there! where in Texas are you?
So Not to worry on comments...so excited for you....have a blast.
Rusty, based upon your camping experiences in the Prius, what size wood blocks would you now recommend to level the car?
Thank you!
How to stay cool in summer ?
Rusty the window visors...did you use just the sticky tape they came with or did you use extra adhesive of some thing?
Thanks Rusty!
