Absolutely love this show! Wish they had spread the books out into more than 1 series though, I dont know what to do when it ends! :( I'll miss Richard and Anne the most :'(
I started researching the War of the Roses before I heard about this show, subsequently heard about it, watched the first episode, realized which names were familiar, and thus who dies. I didn't want to put myself through the torture of watching the rest.
I completely agree with you, "The Borgias" has much more depth and is much better paced, despite a few manifest inaccuracies. It's a shame they cancelled it right before they got to the most interesting part of the Borgia family history. As for this show, I really don't understand why the BBC didn't capitalize on the abundance of material, because to me the end result feels quite shallow, especially where character development is concerned, which is a real pity, given that the actors are good.
Absolutely, and there's a helluvalot they've had to leave out. This is a shame as it's all equally fascinating. Also, altho I've been able to follow it ok because I happen to know the history, for people who do not it must be v difficult. The BBC's I,Claudius (often held to be their best ever historical drama) is here on youtube; worth you comparing the two And yes it's fascinating to see it all from the women's perspective, but without the politics it's difficult to get a grip.
so wait...there IS no season 2? quick, someone compile all of max's sex scenes! jk the show was really great though. considering the budget and the time given. and max's face helped. A LOT.
Considering Game of Thrones is based on a fictional version of the War of the Roses and that's going to stretch into like 10 seasons, if not more, I really don't see how its even possible to squeeze the entire actually historical event into 1 season.
When the lady talks about the sex scenes and adds "it's quite hard, isn't it?", I know she's referring to him not knowing the leading lady very well yet, but interesting choice of words all the same to talk about that type of scene! Hm. Dirty mind me.
It does indeed end before his death and quite abruptly at that. What a shame. And I agree with you about the lack of humour in "The White Queen", I am quite certain that involuntary hilarity does not count ;-)
Does anybody know what happened to the horse then. Did someone take the horse so he could retire or did he become sausage? I tried to google but found out nothing
Didn't know they've cancelled the Borgias. Yes that is a shame. Sure they didnt worry too much about historical accuracy, but the makers stated that quite publicly. For one thing, The Borgias had quite alot of wry, dark humour in it. The White Queen has no laughs whatsoever, a fatal flaw in any drama. Haven't seen series3 of the Borgias yet, presumably it ends before the death of Alexander?
The White Queen is a valiant effort by the BBC, but I think they've bitten off more than they can chew, trying to cram four novels into one serial, and a hugely eventful period of history. It's all 'this-happened this-happened this-happened' and not enough time to develop characters, and no laughs, no humour- And not enough budget. So 10/10 for effort, 7/10 for achievement. In the end the script is weak, and cannot be compared to Neil Jordan's The Borgias.
I cannot get enough of The White Queen... I must have watched each episode 20 times... LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!!!
He's just soo good looking !!
I am addicted to this show!! I just started watching in the US and I have told everyone how great it is!

Totally feel you on that. I now watch the first 5 episodes or so and pretend the rest never happened. Max and Rebecca are really special.

A king asks will you marry me? Hmmm well yes!
Borgias isn't perfect, but tha characters are more fully rounded than The White Queen. Check out the first episode of I Claudius here on youtube
Not seen either but I don't think the borgias is particularly good.
Was the real Edward IV as "hot" as Max Irons?
GingerGilligan yes haha just research about Edward IV. He was known to be really goodlooking and tall and buff :)
Absolutely Emily very yummy
