LA Sanitation's Electric Amrep ASL

- Los Angeles has been testing the waters with electric vehicles for a while now, and they finally got an automated version to test. Running out of the North Central yard, this truck has been tackling recycle for the past couple of weeks. The truck actually has a long battery life, I've seen it running well past 3pm. Only issue is the battery being behind the cab making the load body farther back. It was definitely a challenge making turns in the neighborhood towards the end, due to the truck length.
Personally I don't see Sanitation getting a full fleet of these anytime in the near future, and definitely not in 2035. Electric technology is advanced, but not practical enough yet to power and run a whole yard. Another reason is because trucks like these are about a million dollars. So a budget for these would only buy half of what we'd be able to buy if it was LNG, CNG, or diesel. Unless the city receives a historic grant or budget to purchase electric vehicles, it isn't happening anytime soon like I mentioned earlier.
Filming this was definitely a different experience. I would set up my shots sometimes and by the time I turn around the truck is already with me lol. If they do get an official electric Amrep for Sanitation, I hope we see it in green paint.
Wow, definitely something I was not expecting to see on my recommendations…
i was not expecting this on my feed this morning
LOL me neither
definitely gonna miss the revving and slamming in LA, however this truck looks much better than some other electric trucks out there

From my understanding that the battery can power a dozen of homes but only can be used on Recycle routes because Trash n Green are too Heavy for this kind of truck n b4 needing to be Charged up n one is at North Central yard few are getting trained on it and the weight limit is like the Baby Trucks only up to 6 tons so that's the new addition to the fleet also the Ford Lightnings will coming for the DAC trucks replacing the f450 n f650
All those route are massive so that’s bullshit recycle routes are even bigger than the green and black routes black has the smaller routes
Yes blue is big nda Harbor they can barely get 5 tons the truck I drive slows me down because of the Arm is Locked safety feature n I can speed ball because the Overspeed comes on too shutting down da PTO too its like 20-30seconds delay every 1minute n dat adds up mechanic can't duplicate it nda yard n they don't want to go nda field either
Nice! Never thought i'd see this
Really nice truck
My guess why these trucks are mad expensive is because the technology is so recent. guaranteed it will be a while before the price drops on these things
Nice catch! Doesn't seem that the body needed to be pushed back that far, but I'm not the engineer, so what am I to say lol. Yeah, I agree that the full fleet may not be electric by 2035, but with how fast development is happening, who knows, they could make up a good portion soon.
Bro likes traffic lights that’s crazy
You are right about you not being an engineer, and those engineers don't have to maneuver these trucks in tight allies and the dreaded cul-de- sacs. Good observations on your part.
Interesting
This was so unexpected lmao
Interesting, i'd rather not see this in LA for as long as possible lol. Rumor has it Republic might get some electric trucks this year, there is already skeptiscism from the drivers saying those trucks cant finish a whole route without charging up. The extreme heat in NV plus electric batteries dont mix well here. Who knows what could happen if one catches fire from a hot load compared to a fuel powered one. How well can this truck hold material compared to a fuel powered one? Having a whole fleet in LA plus power outages and bad power grid spells disaster. Hoping those prices stay high for a long time.
You know what kind of electric trucks LV is getting?
@@SonomaMarinGarbage not sure, but I assume it will be electric ZRs.
Oh god, that will be interesting. Keep me posted.@@TheNVTrashMan
Interesting unit to say the least…am I blind or is it missing an “official” city number? Love the high voltage sticker on the cab haha good footage!
Phoenix public works has one in grey colors with a tag axle cool.
Not electric tho lol
Nice job capturing this! Little odd they didn't put this in the teal color like the rest of their fleet
probably since they were testing it they didn't want to spend too much on it
makes sense
nice video
well just like the electric firetruck, we probably wont see more then one...LA just likes the new toys then tires of them..
was that today
Nice! Will La get more of these trucks?
or will la stick to LNG?
