Finding this channel makes me feel old, I used to fix cassette tapes with my dad when I was younger and also the players... Man those were memories. Also for the tape repair we actually had a sort of tool that sliced and also made it so we could tape the ends clean

Curious to know how the chewed part of that tape played.

It didn’t. It just gave me white noise for a few seconds then came back in

Great idea connecting a dimmer switch to the mini tape rewinder. Whats the connection path for that?

Uhh... did you realize that you might need to have a Firewire to Thunderbolt adapter, and a Firewire cable, plus a copy of iMovie (since the app comes with every iMac and every MacBook) and digitize your MiniDV tapes that way. Plus, when splicing Video8, Hi8, and Digital8 videotapes, make sure to use not only proper splicing tape, but also a proper video tape splicer, like the kind that Colin of Video99 Audio and Video Transfers uses in order to splice them.

Maybe next time. I do make sure customers know I don’t use firewire. And masking tapes works better. I’ve got it dialed in! Been doing it this way for 25 years.

He might not even need a thunderbolt adapter. A lot of those MacBooks look old enough that they probably have FireWire built in.

Isn’t it necessary to use gloves to prevent fat from the fingers adhering to the tape and then the tape heads? 😬🤔
