Hearing this after knowing only "Putnam's Camp" all my life (60+ years) is a revelation! And I'm sure there's not a better group to perform it! I want your record!
For years my wife played keyboard with, and I recorded, Orchestra New England at Yale/New Haven - Jim Sinclair, Conductor - "the" world expert on Chas. Ives. They certainly knew how to play "Country Band March"!
This is great! I almost want to hear a version that is more ragged and amateur-sounding , though, like a real country band. A clean precise rendition sounds a bit like a demonstration of the polytonality, rhythmic displacements, tempo modulations, etc.
Definitely! The version I played in college included the final resolving chord heard in other recordings, and that ending's still fun, but I _love_ this take on it.
Janitor apparently walked by as our ensemble was rehearsing this... he said something along the lines of "Oh, wow. That sounds bad." lol
Just what Ives wanted!
my band director said, and I quote, “I don’t ever want to play a traditional march ever again.” and then, he whipped out this piece lol

As a clarinetist, my favorite part of this piece is listening to the schizo percussion parts!

I want whatever he’s having
All hell broke loose.

what a mess lol. I love it.
could listen to the ending 100 x's.

A neat march. Probably more fun to play than to hear.
Trust me, it's not.
TechTog
Played it in my High school band earlier this year.
Nope. It's a pretty hard and chaotic piece.
This is a piece where every member of the band has to be 100% focused. It's not a fun piece to play.
Everything you play sounds wrong.
It was such a fun time.
Well played, sirs!
ives, you dirty, dirty man🥴🥴
Uh.....I don't think I (or anyone) can march to this!😀 That being said, this sounds so evil I think I want to 'try' to play it!
I would love to do this over and over again in a 6-mile parade to mess with people!
WHERE’S THE LAST NOTE OF THE PIECE?😂
There isn't one in the original. It had been added by editors.
