    This 1of my favourite. In charge mode. It's how I would drive it as I too do alot of highway miles per day and inner city as well. Glad to see it's impressed you and me !

    AHH, I must have closed the Live Chat somehow!!!!! Well, that's not good as I cannot re-open it. I'm sorry guys. I'll try better next time. It was the first time we tried the new RUclips Premiere feature. How about we do this every Sunday now and hang out in Live chat for a while (until I accidentally close it again, hahaha). Please let me know if the time was OK or if you want me to start say 2-3h later?!

    Great video, thanks from a British Columbia PHEV guy! I really enjoyed the scenery. It makes me want to take a holiday down under. I don't find that the charge mode reduces the highway fuel consumption significantly. I use it for free way stints all the time.

      Thanks for your feedback Ron! The BC PHV guy, eh? Well, charge mode does increase you battery SOC. So it only make sense when you need the electric range later on that trip during slower driving. My trip was ideal as we had some city and highway driving. City -> Ev, highway -> Charge Mode.
      I'll do some more testing and see if it really lowers the consumption.

    Hey Andy - this is exactly what I've been finding. Using charge mode on fast highway driving then going back to normal hybrid mode until the battery drops, and repeat etc... gives me better figures than just driving on a single charge. I get about 6l per 100km for 150-170km trips (nearly flat all the way too)... everyone on the FB page (bar one or two) always goes on about the 'charge mode' being the one thing not to use. I'm using it!

    • @unpluggedEV
      @unpluggedEV  6 лет назад

      Yeah, I think it is more efficient when using charge mode instead of save mode or automatic hybrid mode. I'll do some more testing ;)

      I used it yesterday and it seemed better!

    Hi guys, hope you are all coming to the livechat on Sunday. I'll be here one hour earlier to answer some questions. Not sure how this Premiere think here works but we will figure it out :)

    Thanks you Andy for a thoughtfully created and informative video! Been driving my beloved PHEV for 4 years and never tried the CHARGE mode..I'm a dummy obviously.. good onya mate!

    I do some long drives, and my finding on highway driving is that it's best to use electric power for hills and city driving, then switch to charge mode on 100km/ph flat or down hill highway drives.

    Hi Andy, I'm a new viewer, and I am really enjoying your real world review, I have just purchased the latest Outlander PHEV. I love the car, but since it's brand new I only did city driving on electricity charging the electric motor at work. That gives me around 80km range. I am about to embark on a highway trip these holidays from Sydney to Canberra. I am willing to try the Charge mode on highway and EV in city, as per your advice and see how I go. I'm really looking forward to the results. Cheers.

    The car may not be able to balance the cells with out a full charge but try leaving it plugged in for a while maybe that may help.

    • @unpluggedEV
      @unpluggedEV  5 лет назад +1

      The battery balances sometimes at the beginning, sometimes in the middle, sometimes at the end. Sometimes even twice during a charge (I made some videos about that too :D ). The BMU makes the decision according to the actual cell voltages and target voltage.

    Hi Andy, you've discover the motorway charge secret! Yes it works, I've been driving about 6 months like this. You use the best petrol efficiency ( motorway) and charge and then ev in town. If you are ever on a short trip you ev and on a long trip you always have motorway so this car works no matter where you go :)
    One extra tip... watch your throttle use when charging up a steep incline. I've found it sits around 10l/100 but will jump to around 18 if you load the engine to much, like an overdrive kind of thing. I find eco mode helps and even go to ev only up a steep hill and then charge again as it levels out ;)
    Driving like this is the essence of a hybrid, using all its facilities to best advantage.

    • @unpluggedEV
      @unpluggedEV  6 лет назад

      Thanks for your feedback. That is correct, when the car is in series mode the engine revs up like made and I have seen 18L too. That's why I try to avoid this mode under all circumstances. Going up the hill in pure EV and then recharge later is a good tip!

    Hi, we get a used 4WD Outlander beside our Zoe to compensate for the old Passat for pulling horses. So I would love to learn more about this car. We want to utilize the battery as good as possible as we are EV fans. How to you connect the PheV watchdog with the Outlander? Does a standard dongle work? The charge mode looks strange to us as we would use basically a oil power plant instead of regenerative energy. How can we avoid this?

    Hi Andy, one question. Do you think exhaust pipes and all the stuff under the vehicle is highly exposed? Have you ever had any problem off-road?

    • @unpluggedEV
      @unpluggedEV  6 лет назад +2

      I occasionally have some grass hanging at the exhaust pipe when going a bit 'soft-road'. The clearance is only around 20cm so not too much anyway. The battery and motors are fully waterproof and sealed though. I scratched my battery a few times at some humps...

    Hello just for your information once the charge mode charges the battery to 80% or what ever it then becomes a keep mode there is no difference from that point on regardless how far you drive therefore can not be any mileage benefits. Thanks

    Sometimes the engine gets loud when driving in charge mode and acceleration power feels decreased. Mitsubishi explains this is because the gas engine is being directed to recharge the battery. That makes sense but it’s unpleasant when driving. The engine loudness is relieved if I turn charge mode off.
    2019 PHEV. Anyone have any expert experience with this phenomenon?

    Andy shut down the interior ceiling light to improve EV range :)

    • @unpluggedEV
      @unpluggedEV  6 лет назад +2

      I thought about it. Sometimes I forget to close the boot properly and all interior lights are on while driving. The EV range drops significantly ;)

    forgot to say, what about getting a Wallbox or just keeping car charger for charging?.

    • @unpluggedEV
      @unpluggedEV  6 лет назад

      A charging station does not make sense for me. Not with the PHEV anyway.
      Even with a pure EV and and a far larger battery, I can still use the EVSE on 15A setting and charge 150km in around 10h. My commute is only 30km/day so even charging on 1.3kW (6A) gives me 60km per 10h charging.
      If we go further I can always quick charge at a public station. I know EV owners in the UK getting subsidised charging station with 7.7kW or even 22kW. Depending on the price, I would probably get one if I hade a larger battery (say 60kWh+).
      I got your other message and will send you an email in the next days, didn't want to publish you message here ;)

    Hi Andy how large difference is the on board KWh calculator vs external Calculator.(7.7KWh) in my19 i am getting around 10KWh from the on board, saldy i am using around 28KWh/100Km, its colder than 0°c and very hilly where i live.

    • @unpluggedEV
      @unpluggedEV  6 лет назад +1

      The charger loss is around 9-10% from what I can see.
      28kWh/100km is INSANE!

    I have a simple quick question please how long did it take to charge up to 70% while driving down the highway and again 45% as you have stated in the video if you don't remember the time roughly how many kilometres did you cover to get the 70% charge and the 45% charge that will also do thank you

    • @unpluggedEV
      @unpluggedEV  5 лет назад

      Uh, oh, I don't have exact numbers. On a recent drive (fairly hilly roads though) it took around 50km of driving to charge 20km EV driving. It is much better on flat roads though.
