  • On the 9th of November 1989, the first GDR citizens arrive at the border crossing Bornholmer Strasse in the evening. They want to know what's up with the news that were sent earlier this day. At this point, the border crossing is still closed.
Later in the evening, the crowd demands the opening of the borders. The situation is getting worse. No one knows for sure if the news is not a rumor. Completely confused the first border guards open the gates.
    The border has fallen.
At midnight, all border crossings in Berlin are open.
"The Wall is gone" it echoes throughout Berlin. Citizens climb the wall to take a look over. East Berliners are received with applause. Some bring flowers and are welcomed with sparkling wine.
